Let's hope they have more codecs and it's better at being a media center. At that price it would wanna be. I'm not holding my breath based on their performance to date

ah yes- I forgot I rolled the firmware back to the previous version- because DLNA is completely screwed in the latest. My display is fine on the older firmware

I'd be curious to see if the display comes back after its on a while. But it does seem odd. I had this issue in early software versions. Having said that I have not paid a lot of attention to the display recently and I'll keep an eye on it. Does seem like QA needs more attention.
Btw what's the ventilation like around the unit.  They don't like being covered

It's so new that a quick direct swap would be a fair expectation

Bought it ages ago and forgot I paid for it. Any of the free ones should be up to the job. From memory I tried it as a replacement for windows media player to get around drm issues. When the trial ended I bought it as I didn't want to change my setup

Yeh that's what I'd have tried.  Mines 2 years old and never done anything like that. If it plays up again might be worth swapping it over

No they are not. Is your firmware up to date?

yeh that should be it. Not sure about mac or xbox but on a windows PC I see mine under devices. If you have a smart tv it can see it too. could be a network port not open?

On a PC running a DLNA server (Tversity). I could just use the network shares as unlike the Humax - the WD supports SMB. But DLNA is faster

That's what I'm using.  It works fine via Dlna on fixed lan but it's lack of codec support and it's terribly slow browsing speed makes it fairly useless for this function.

There isn't one magic device out there that does it all well. The Humax is a great PVR for free to air and good for web services like  iView , sbs on demand etc. Its a lousy media center-  thats not its prime purpose.

The WD TV live streaming is a great media center- but a lousy PVR and its web services are a joke. Thats not its prime purpose
Combination of the two works for me - but it is a compromise

If you have a stable connection it will use very little. But  network issues will cause problems. Personally I think WiFi is not suitable for this device if you are going to use streaming. Its fine if you are not though- but it must be stable.

I use ethernet over power for mine- rock solid

Try a hard power reset- ie - pull out the power cord - wait  10 seconds and plug it in again. I'm not ware of a menu option to turn off the unit's display

Humax / Re: Have you tried the Humax remote from App store?
« on: April 29, 2014, 08:13:31 AM »
yep I tried it and it works ok. However I use a harmony remote to control all the devices. Also now there are apps out there that are similar to Harmony in that they can be set to control multiple devices simultaneously. IR blaster needed on your phone though
