Topfield / Re: Disabling the ice_epg_loader tap
« on: July 31, 2006, 02:12:51 PM »
This is on the todo list but unfortunately not a high priority.  We will investigate in the next week or two.

Peter Vogel

To expand further on Mitch's comment, our commentary on Nine's programs are not just a cheap shot.

We are trying in a humorous way to convey to the public that Nine have not only sued us but they are refusing  to communicate with us except in court.

In a reasonable commercial world I would expect that if someone has a grievance with you, they should first attempt to resolve it by negotiation.  The Federal Court should not be their first port of call.

We have invited Nine to meet with us and understand the issues however they have refused to do so. Eddie McGuide has not returned our calls.

The consequence is that our float failed and now we are spending vast amounts of money on a legal defence that we should not be subject to until after alternative dispute resolution has been exhausted.

You, as an IceTV subscriber, are not getting the benefit of new and improved services as your subscription fees are going into the pockets of the lawyers rather than our developers.

As Mitch said, our "political" commentary is not intended to detract from the information presented, if we have slipped up please let us know which programs have been impacted so we can correct them.

Best regards,

Peter Vogel

Just to get this straight, is the problem that the IceBox2 fetches and installs the TAP even if all days to upload are not checked?  If that is the case, please provide details of how we can reproduce this.

Also, are there cases where you wnat to fetch the Ice EPG but not the TAP?

General Discussions / Re: Maybe time for a special offer?
« on: July 26, 2006, 12:38:20 PM » I need to purchase a seperate "product" to use IceTV with Web Scheduler, when I've got a subscription already? (For MCE2005)

No problem, you can use up to three devices of any type on the one account, so long as it's all for you and you're not sharing teh one account with a friend.

Best regards,

Peter Vogel

We launched a new offer on Saturday which is pretty attractive - see

For a limited time you can get up to 12 months IceTV subscription for as little as $13, through our new Refer a Friend offer...

All you have to do is tell your "early adopter" friends about IceTV. For every month they buy you get a month for free! (12 months max.)

Just get a friend to enter your IceTV User ID when they register with IceTV and you will automatically be sent an email confirming that the bonus subscription has been added to your account.

Full details here:

Announcements / Vote for your favourite "eddie" cartoon
« on: July 25, 2006, 07:02:36 AM »
Here are some of my favourite cartoons, selected by myself based on how much it made me laugh, from hundreds submitted in our "2 for one" offer campaign last month.

Vote for your favourite!  The winner will get...  satisfaction and pride.

Thanks everyone for your superb effort!

Unfortunately it’s not so simple to PIMP a Toppy. The Toppy is not connected to the internet even when used with the WiFi router. The intelligence needs to be provided in the router itself which means writing the code within the restrictions of that small embedded device.

Then the router needs to communicate with the Toppy via file transfers since the private message USB protocol API does not work (Toppy bugs).

So what seems like a straightforward task rapidly blows into many hundreds of hours of engineering time which takes a lot of subscribers to fund, at the $3 per week we get in return.

Of course we are doing all we can to find a commercially viable solution, maybe by cooperating with the open-source community.  Stay tuned.

Windows XP Media Center Edition / Channels disappearing
« on: July 24, 2006, 11:48:39 AM »
Dear MCE experts,

We at Ice get occasional queries about channels disappearing or missing on initial scan. Examples:

"For the last three days my media center doesn't display channel 9 in either SD or HD in the EPG.  When I check the channels in the setup, both Channel 9's are listed but there is no frequency shown."

"Before installing IceTV, when I performed a channel scan in MCE I retrieved 45 services. After installing Ice TV there was only 15 services."

We have been unable to reproduce this problem so are hoping some of our esteemed users can shed some light?

Peter Vogel

Just a note to confirm that we are reading this thread and considering how best to proceed. We chose the MCE and EyeTV to PIMP initially as these are easy to program and are internet connected. As you know, the Topfield is hard to program and not connected to the net   :(

I'll let you know what we come up with after internal discussions.

Sorry I can't be more definite...

Windows Vista Media Center / Re: PIMP Series Recordings
« on: July 19, 2006, 01:35:59 PM »
Not supported yet.. it's certainly on our to-do list.

Not sure yet whether we would support something special to use the MCE native series recording or do the logic at the server and send out individual on-offs.

Any input welcomed.

Topfield / Re: preset recordings not showing in Ice guide
« on: July 10, 2006, 11:30:02 AM »
Actually, after closer investigation, there seems to be more to this than my initial comment and there may be a workaround possible from our end.  We'll look into it further but it may not be a quick fix...

Topfield / Re: preset recordings not showing in Ice guide
« on: July 09, 2006, 10:00:22 AM »
Unfortunately it's a long-standing bug internal to the Topfield and although we have asked them to fix it, they have not.  Does anyone know whether this problem persists with the Masterpiece and other later Toppies?

Peter Vogel

The new PIMPmyMCE build is here for the moment

I don't think anything has been changed re. padding.  Just the display of scheudled programs should now be corrected.

Windows XP Media Center Edition / Re: No ABC HD guide listing
« on: July 09, 2006, 08:50:21 AM »
Please see this thread form more information about the HD guide.

Basicallly, the High Definition (HD) guides that we supply are designed to be true representations of which shows are to be shown on these channels in HD. The gaps that are shown are periods where either a demo loop will be shown or where a Standard Definition shows are being shown that have been

If we don't have any information about what will be HD we take the safe approach of saying "unknown" and if the whole day's guide is "unknown" we don't generate a listing for that day at all.  This is a result of previous experience where people would unexpectedly miss their recording becuase it was not broadcast in HD for one reason or another.

However the situation with HD seems to be improving so we are reviewing our protocol, so any suggestions on a foolproof strategy are welcome.
