Humax / Re: Humax HDR7500T Freezes with Firmware v1.08.04
« on: February 10, 2013, 08:54:00 AM »
The portal works well for us on v1.07, though we only ever use it to watch iView.

The reason I suspect the v1.08 firmware is because our Humax worked really well on 1.07. The problem only occurred after we upgraded to v1.08. Resetting to factory defaults and reformatting the disk did not resolve it. Plus, we have now been back on v1.07 for a week with no issues (though that is not really long enough to be sure)

Resetting to Factory Defaults did not work
Reformatting the disk did not work.
Freezes still happened when browsing through video folders.
Now I have downgrading to the trusty, stable old 1.07 firmware
I will let you all know how I go.

There was nothing in v1.08 that I wanted. QuickFlix offers a small collection of mostly old movies. I already have QuickFlix on my Sony blu-ray player.

Notwithstanding this issue, I am quite happy with the Humax and IceTV. It is really easy to use.

Our's stopped freezing till the last week or so. I had already tried the reset to defaults. So I reformated the disk this time. Here's hoping that works, but after reading the posts from others, I am not confident.

Our Humax locked up again when scrolling through the list of recorded shows. So, I am keen to hear whether your disk reformat solves your problem.

When you say you were looking at a file, were you using FTP or DLNA? I believe that one of my freezes occured when I was copying a file to the Humax HDD using FTP.

A status report.

No futher freezes.

I am still on v1.08.04 and have not tried any fixes since the freeze mentioned in my last post.  Given only one other user has had the issue, maybe the issue is really minor or doesn't exist at all.

Thanks for the quick reply Dave. I am most impressed with IceTV's support.

I have emailed Humax support.

I will wait for a few days before deciding what to do next. If no one else has the issue, I may go for the disk reformat before I downgrade.

Humax / Humax HDR7500T Freezes with Firmware v1.08.04
« on: December 08, 2012, 11:11:04 AM »
After upgrading, our Humax has frozen three times. We were browsing the video menu of hard disk recordings each time. We could not move within or exit from the menu, however audio from the tuner was still playing. I believe it has frozen on a folder, rather than a file, each time

The only way we could unfreeze it was by using the switch on the rear to cycle power.

After the second time, I reset the PVR to factory defaults and reconfigured it. However, it has frozen again.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I have updated. The only change I found during a quick look was QuikFlix has been added.

Quickflix does not appear to have much of a selection of movies or tv shows, so I would not get too excited.

It has locked up once since the update, but I restarted ithe Humax and it has been fine since then.

Our Humax is working well. Our impression of the state of the issues are:
1. Padding. It appears to be fixed, even with power saving settings on.
2. EPG missing. We have not experienced this issue
3. Storing recordings in folders. Most, if not all recordings, are now not being stored in folders. (A backward step?). We did do a full factory reset after the firmware upgrade
4. SBS OnDemand. It has been added. Now that is an extra, not a fix. Good stuff!
5. Bonus or phantom recordings. (unrequested recordings). We get these very rarely. I have never investigated this issue.

Wish List
Longer padding options. The longest post padding is 20 minutes. Yet commercial channels, such as channel 7, can be running late by more than this. I will spare you my extended rant about commercial TV. The Federal Government should insist these channels honour their broadcast licenses and stick to the published schedules. Until they do this, the commercial channels have no grounds for complaint if we download shows.

We have not had any padding issues in over a week since making the power saving setting changes recommended by Humax. We use the IceTV app on iPads to control the PVR (one of the use cases that need to be tested.

On the broader issue of the suitability of the Humax/IceTV solution, I am quite pleased. It is a huge improvement on my old Pansonic PVR which could not adapt to changes in the programme schedules inflicted on us by the networks. It also did not allow an entire series to be selected for recoding.

I chose the Humax/IceTV combination because it appeared to be the easiest for my wife to use.

BTW, the ABCs iView app is really well implemented

I expect the occaisional glitch with all the technology involved (digital TV, HDMI, PVR, WiFi, router, internet, IceTV). I have been surprised that the few glitches that do occur are relatively minor.

My biggest complaint is aimed at the TV networks. Padding is only an issue because the networks intentionally vary from the published schedule. Whatever their intent, the impact has been to stop us watching any commercial program live to air. In fact we tend to shy away from watching most programs on the commercial networks, even via the PVR. Our Apple TV provides the most relaxing way to watch shows such as Top Gear and Downton Abbey.

The Humax advice is worth a try. I have made the changes suggested and will see if the padding issue is fixed over the next few weeks.

It would be good if someone from Humax participated in this forum. It is in their own interest to present their own case here in the bet way they can.

One thing I do not understand is why the automatic transition to standby needs to be switched off. If padding will work in normal standby (ie. PSS off) why does it matter if it automatically changes from ON to Standby?

The power use is not a big issue for me. If I expect the Humax to be updated whenever I add a new show to record or when a TV station changes the start time of a program, then it has to be on and ready to communicate with IceTV. However, it would be nice to know how much power it does use in normal standby.

Humax / Some recordings not saved in folders
« on: May 05, 2012, 02:27:16 PM »
I am impressed with the Humax. It still has a few issues with padding at times, but they are covered in other threads. My problem is that some recordings are not being saved in the fappropriate older for the series.

Does this happen to anyone else?

Why is this so?
