Title: Nine switch from Win to Southern Cross Austereo
Post by: prl on June 23, 2016, 11:59:25 AM
Nine has started advertising the switch of its network services from Win to Southern Cross Austereo. The switch date is July 1. There's a web page for the switch at http://www.nineon5.com.au/ (http://www.nineon5.com.au/).

Southern Cross won't carry 9HD and 9Life initially, because they need new gear to be installed. From the NineOn5
FAQ (http://www.nineon5.com.au/#!faq/cee5): "9HD will be broadcast by mid-August at the latest"; "SCA is expecting that it will be broadcasting 9Life by mid-August."

Peter, do you know will happen with the WIN and SCA triples?

The first thing I'll know will be when I do a scan on 1 July, unfortunately.

According to this press release (http://images.tenplay.com.au/~/media/Corporate%20Site%20Media/Files/Media%20Releases/2016/TEN%20And%20WIN%20Network%20Announce%20New%20Program%20Supply%20Agreement.pdf) on 23 May, the switchover of Ten's services to Win will also be on 1 July. However, while I've seen ads for the Nine changeover in the Canberra Times and in ads on Nine, I haven't seen anything about it for the Ten switchover.

The Ten press release gives a marketing contact and a media contact, but, of course, no technical contact.

Presumably Ten will be taking over the old Win LCN range, as Nine is taking over the old SC Ten LCN range.

SCA have announced today that they will be carrying 9HD from 1st July.  9Life will have to wait until mid-August though.

Presumably Ten will be taking over the old Win LCN range, as Nine is taking over the old SC Ten LCN range.

Or to put that a different way, SCA and WIN will keep their current LCN ranges.

Still not sure what is happening with Nine programming in TAS. It is not a simple "WIN and SCA are swapping Nine and Ten" in TAS as TDT currently broadcast Ten's channels in TAS and SCA will continue to broadcast Seven's channels.

WIN say they will be broadcasting Ten's channels in TAS. So what happens to Nine's programs in TAS...  and what will TDT be broadcasting?

SCA could end up with Nine and Ten affiliations. There are existing multi-affiliations already.

- WIN currently broadcasts Seven's, Nine's and Ten's channels in the 'Griffith / Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area' region.
- Southern Cross currently broadcasts Seven's, Nine's and Ten's channels in the Spencer Gulf, Eyre Peninsula  (Port Augusta) and Broken Hill regions.

Aren't there oddball affiliation arrangements in WA and NT, too?

Not that I can see but QLD's Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast are odd.

Sunshine Coast has 2 sets of Seven's channels both from Seven(!) but on different LCNs (in ranges with 6s and 7s).

Gold Coast has 2 of everything. It has retransmitted Brisbane channels on Brisbane LCNs and local Gold Coast channels on 'regional' LCNs.

Ten seems to like small single-region broadcasters like MDT in Mildura, TDT in TAS, DDT in Darwin and West TV in Regional WA and CDT in the central Oz. Prime has remote affiliates like GWN in WA and Imparja in VAST supported areas. Then there's 2 indigenous broadcasters; Goolari and Larrakia in central Oz, that have their own content.

The Sunshine Coast's sets of sevens are broadcast from the same place (The beautifully named "Bald Knob", somewhere up near Maleny), but they are different transmitters.
The 6's are called Sunshine Coast North and deliver the true Regional news progs etc.
The 7's are called Sunshine Coast South, and re-transmit Brisbane's 7's. This covers from about where we are in Sippy Downs (near Buderim and Maroochydore), to the South, covering a lot of Brisbane's Northern Suburbs, as well as Caloundra and other southern parts of the Sunshine Coast.
There is the complication of further north in Nambour, which has a transmitter (Dulong, I think), cuz Nambour is a difficult area for reception (in a valley, sort of).

...

There was an article (http://www.canberratimes.com.au/entertainment/tv-and-radio/news-and-current-affairs/what-act-viewers-need-to-know-about-the-big-tv-switch-20160625-gprspl.html) about the switch in today's Canberra Sunday Times with more detail than has previously been available (not that that's saying much). The print version of the article lists the new LCN assignments, but the online version doesn't.  ::)

The new LCNs are:
5 Nine
50 9HD
52 9Gem
53 9GO!
54 9Life
56 Aspire

8 WIN (Ten)
80 WIN HD
81 One
82 Eleven
84 TVSN
85 GOLD

Thanks Peter.

The online version that you linked to does include the new LCNs for each channel (in the text). I assume the print version must have also had a nice easy to understand table or list of the new LCN/Channel assignments.

No problem.

Yes for the table in the print version. I thought the text version of the LCN assignments looked a bit muddled, though I didn't check it against the table.

When will Tassie have the epg guide for wintv which is still missing and also TDT seems we'll get channel Nine now but no info for both.

Worth noting that I needed to clear service list before rescanning channels on Topfield 2400, otherwise the LCN's get all messed up.
Title: Re: Nine switch from Win to Southern Cross Austereo
Post by: prl on July 01, 2016, 11:29:39 AM
It will may also be necessary to do a manual scan with "clear services" on Beyonwiz T series boxes. I'll post more when I've tested it.

In the short term, channel picons on the T series will also be messed up in affected areas.

Peter, do you know will happen with the WIN and SCA triples?

In the ACT, it looks like the Nine channels have take over the old Ten triples on SCA, and the Ten channels have taken over the old Nine/Win channels on Win. I'm not sure what the mapping is.

I'll post a list of the new triples after I've done some rescans.

Hi there Andomoose55 -

We are currently in the process of changing everything over.  As you can appreciate it is quite a big task to undertake as it affects Tasmania and all regional centres in Australia and is not just a simple touch of a button.  Once the data is all transferred across to the correct channel numbers by the technical team, the guide team will then undertake checks for Friday and then continue on with the rest of the week.

I appreciate your patience.

Kind regards,

Tiphanee

Firday isn't right anyway because the LCN's are wrong alot of the channels are blank. You still have Win as Nine and TDT as Ten

That's correct as Tasmania hasn't been reviewed as yet.  As I said, it is a huge task to undertake and I really would appreciate your patience and understanding.

Kindest regards,

Tiphanee

The channel numbers and background information has been updated for the Win channels (WIN, WINHD, ONE and ELEVEN), however as TDT only came to a deal late yesterday we do not have the details for those channels as yet, we are working to get those now. The guide data for these channels will be updated and checked this afternoon.

Hi, Daniel.

As I mentioned in my PM, after a manual scan with "clear channel and an IceTV disable/enable/fetch, I'm not seeing any IceTV EPG data for the Nine-branded channels (9HD Canberra, Nine Canberra, 9Gem, 9Go!, 9Life) in the ACT/Canberra IceGuide.
Title: Re: Nine switch from Win to Southern Cross Austereo
Post by: prl on July 01, 2016, 01:48:42 PM
Since the switch, the text "Nine Canberra" (a "new" channel) doesn't fit the available width of the channel name column in the My Week, and wraps around to cross the hairline that separates entries in My Week. Its generic name, "SC Nine," still fits the channel name column in "Coming Soon".

Not urgent, just a bit messy. :)

Thanks, Daniel.

I can confirm that. The "My Week" layout problem just needed me to do a page reload. The EPG/timers problem for the Nine channels needed me to reschedule the missed Nine network timers, then do an IceTV disable/enable/fetch

To do a full auto channel search on your Humax follow the steps here:

If you have a Beyonwiz T series, you can also get "No matching service" errors for timer conflicts (don't ask  ::)), i.e. when you have timers for programs on more broadcasters than your box has tuners for.

It may be worth a check to see if that could be the cause.

But the error can also reflect a real mismatch between the service/channel selection information in the timer and the channel information in the T series box.

I had a strange recording of "The Americans" made on 9Gem 23:55 Tue 05 Jul, (IceTV scheduled time 00:00 Wed 6 Jul).

The problems were:The last episode of The Americans that we recorded was "Do Mail Robots Dream of Electric Sheep?". Coincidentally, I still have an unrefreshed MyShows page that says the IceTV set a timer to record the following episode, "Stingers" on One at 00:00 Wed 6 Jul.

The recording is well-separated in time from the changeover. Perhaps a timer on the T4 didn't get updated when I rescanned and did the disable/enable/fetch?

Anyway, we'll just have to go to Tenplay to watch it.

Hi Dom,

6, 60 or 61 are okay. But for Wagga you should be using Prime Northern. It is more to do with what shows Prime broadcasts in your area than where Wagga is located in the NSW Regional Southern area.

I had similar problems with recordings of Legends (again what should have been on One was recorded from Gem) and Sleepy Hollow (this time Go! and Eleven were exchanged).

The next recording from the new SCA channels (Legends on One, 23:30 Sat 9 Jul) is set to record tfrom the correct service, so it looks like the problem is restricted to timers on the new SCA services that already existed when I rescanned on 1 Jul.

I'm not sure how it was elsewhere, but in the ACT, 9 Life's channel was there from the switch-over on 1 Jul, but it just showed a channel "coming soon" splash screen. I didn't need to re-scan after 1 Jul to get 9 Life broadcasts when they actually started transmitting program material today.

Just got home after a weekend away and channel 54 is broadcasting as 9life. In the Ice account settings, 9life cant be assigned to lcn 54 as it isnt in the list, does this need to be changed at Ice's end to work for recording?

OK, have rescanned the channels, disabled, re-enabled and re-fetched the ice guide etc from the T4 and still can't map 9life successfully. There is no LCN 54 in the list for 9life, and no other version of the life channel that can be assigned. Channel 54 has been working for some time, as PRL says above with the log and "Coming Soon". It has been broadcasting content since yesterday but we can't set up recordings via Ice TV app or website at the moment.
