Title: Firmware 1.06 for Humax HDR7500t to be released
Post by: lukem on July 02, 2012, 07:02:10 PM
Dear All,

Good news - Humax will be releasing a firmware update this Thursday to address a number of issues. Most importantly, this update will resolve the intermittent padding problems that some of you have been experiencing.

Regards,
Luke

How about the disappearing epg? Is this also addressed?

swamprat,

We are testing a workaround at the moment which we believe will prevent the issue from occurring, and should be available around the same time.

Regards,
Luke

Do we have to do anything to update, and can the power saving work around be set back to what it was now.

After updating you should be able to use whichever power saving options you prefer.

Last time I checked the update was not yet available via Software Update in the TV Portal. But it is available from the Humax Australia website.
http://www.humaxdigital.com/au/support/swdownload.asp

Make sure that you do a factory reset after the update (but do NOT tick the box to format the HDD!).

Hi Dave,
I was planning on waiting for the portal update to be available. However I'm also interested in the "workaround" Luke mentioned for the epg disappearing. Is this a settings thing?
BTW- changing back to power saving has made a big difference. I haven't lost the epg since - yet

The "workaround" Luke mentioned for the epg disappearing has been tried already a few weeks ago with 1.05.01, and unfortunately it didn't help. So far it looks like the 1.06.01 firmware is a big improvement in both missing padding and the blank guide, but we won't know for sure until a few weeks have passed without anyone reporting any further instances.

Note: I did have to do a factory reset after updating to 1.06.01 before the blank guide issue stopped occurring.

Hello

Will programs that are part of a "Series Recording" re-populate in the unit's recording schedule after a factory reset? Or do I need to cancel and reprogram them online?

After resetting to factory defaults and setting up the Humax again I would 'Resend all recordings' for your Humax device.

To resend all recording to your Humax:
- Log in to IceTV website.
- Click on the 'My Account' link up the top of the page.
- Click on the 'TV Recorders' tab.
- Click on the 'Resend all recordings' link on the same row as your Humax device.

Shortcut to the 'TV Recorders' tab:

Updated via USB this morning. Portal would not connect which is odd because I did the last update through it. I use wifi so maybe that's it. Anyway I've decided to leave the reset for now in the interest of trying one thing at a time. I turned power saving back on some two weeks back and stopped losing the EPG. If I lose the EPG again I'll then rest and try.
Padding will get tested tonight

Well I did the update on Thursday via TV Portal and seems to have had the following effect;

A) Doesn't seem to have solved the padding problem.
B) Is no longer putting recordings into folders.
C) No sign of SBS Demand service in TV Portal as promised.

Therefore not the best firmware upgrade and I wish I hadn't bothered.

I have done a factory reset and resent all  scheduled recordings, turned power off and back on. Any ideas?

thats a shame. I've only made two recordings since the update and padding worked on both

I just activated the 3 month free icetv trial a few hours ago and updated to 1.06 via tv portal as well (incl. 'factory reset').
Since then I've had one failed recording and the EPG did go blank. :(

Padding seems to work for me, unit was On all the time though.

C) No sign of SBS Demand service in TV Portal as promised
I have no SBS On Demand either.

Not a good start...

So - Firmware 1.06 was automatically updated on my box. So far, the padding is at best random and mostly not owrking.I actually leave the PVR On all the time - so the Power saving is also off. Recordings placement in folders is random at best. the DLAN cllient stopped seeing all the files on my netowrk drive . I would say the fix broke stuff that worked and did not fix what did not work.

I just got the meTV PVR delviered, so it will be an interesting comparrison. But a PVR for 10 $ a month ( or if you have a bundle - free) maybe just what will get the fire from under my feet for buying this to replace a semi functional DGTEC.

Hi Guys,

Please note that it may take 5 days for for the padding issue to go away completely. This is due to the fact that individual recordings are scheduled up to 5 days in advance, so these particular shows which were scheduled prior to the firmware update may miss their padding.

Regards,
Luke

Luke if you notice acem8's post he did a factory rest- so all his old recordings have been wiped. He says he's still having padding issues.
So far so good for me - epg has not vanished and padding has worked 3 from3

Yes, but we have found (in unrelated tests) that the Humax can retain some scheduling history in the background even after a factory reset. The only way we were able to clear the schedules completely was to format the hard drive(!) while doing the factory reset.

For those where all existing recordings on the hard drive are missing the end of the program, formatting the hard drive (and losing all the recordings) may be a suitable option. Otherwise for everyone else you may still see missing padding for the 5 days after the update.

The bonus TV Portal update for the SBS catchup TV service is not due to go live until this week.

I lost the epg again tonight, tried to replicate my actions before it went down, but to no avail.
To get the epg back I had to stop all running recordings, 'reselect' IceTV in preferences and do a soft power cycle.

Padding seems to work (in power saving mode as well), but the epg was out on one test recording (Ch 11, 3am ,"Becker" was about 10 minutes late.

Btw.: I"m using an Optus Huawei E583C 3g wifi modem for networking, have full bars on wifi and 3g, no drop outs.

B) Is no longer putting recordings into folders.

Anything to update regarding this? It was one of my favourite features. Even series recordings that already have a folder aren't being placed in the folder anymore :(

The 'not saving series recordings in folders' issue is one reason we recommend resetting to factory defaults and then resending all recordings from your IceTV account.

Hi Dave. I appreciate your quick response on a Friday night :)

You responded to my question on the previous page of this thread where I asked how do I resend recordings after a reset. So I've done that step. I guess I will try it again tomorrow.

Hi Swamprat96,

Good to hear everything is working.  Could you please confirm that you have power saving features enabled?

Thanks

Yes power saving on. Auto shutdown off

What difference do the power settings make and why would people leave the box on all the time? I use a Logitech Harmony remote to put the tv and Humax into standby at the end of the day, I always had power saving and automatic shutdown on and it never missed a recording or lost the epg.

Since the new firmware issues I have turned both to off but it doesn't seem to make any difference (unless the box failed to go into standby I guess it would be on all night).

The workaround for the Padding issue was to disable all power saving features - see "Padding Missing" thread for details.

I have updated to firmware 1.06 and I have done a factory reset and I have the power saving feature turned on, but now I have noticed that when I have turned the Humax off and it is in the power saving mode it would normally stops the hard drive from spinning which is what it used to do, as the Humax is in my bedroom and I hate the noise of the hard drive spinning all night,

Now with the new firmware I have noticed that it will start up spinning again after a few hours at random times like 2am  and will stay on for a long time and then stops again and there are no recordings scheduled , and it never did that before and when I do hear it spinning I have to turn it on and off again to stop the hard drive spinning.
I wonder if all the new firmware has done is take your Humax out of power saving mode late at night or very early in the morning so you don't notice, to fix the padding problem as they have said before to take it out off power saving mode to fix the padding problem.

So, it would seem my padding issues are fixed, but I have the folder issue now.

I have done a factory reset prior. I've also deleted folders in the hope the box was maybe holding some metadata against them, to no avail :-(

Try formatting the HDD. I have not done this yet but the HDD will still have the old structure onit. Start with a clean slate

Clean slate excluding all my existing recordings :-(

Yeh but easy to back up no?

If you are going to back up your recordings so that you can format the HDD and then return your recordings to the Humax HDD you should use an FTP client on your computer (not a USB drive plugged into the Humax). If you use FTP to copy them to a USB drive plugged into the computer you should make sure that the USB drive is NOT formatted in FAT or FAT32 (otherwise the FTP client will split the recordings at 2GB or 4GB, preventing the Humax listing them correctly after you copy them back).

Backup all of the files that you can see with the same name as the recording.

I would copy the recordings back after you have 'resent all recordings' from IceTV and the Humax has recreated all the folders. Though you could copy them back first and then later move them into their respective folders.

I wouldn't call it easy.  I certainly wouldn't call it hard, but it ain't easy either.  More like, "incredibly inconvenient."

Thanks for this dave.  Is this a confirmation that this is the only action I can take to fix the folder issue?  Or is this another Humax "give it a go and see, we're not sure"?

The folder issue should also be resolvable by doing the following:
- Delete all affected *current series recordings from the website.
- Wait 20 minutes with the Humax turned on.
- Recreate all of your series recordings (I did it from the website but from the Humax should work).

If you set each series as a favourite first, it makes them easier to find later when resetting them as a series recording. This is because as favourites they will still be listed in My Shows even after you remove their series recording setting. After you have done the 3 steps above you can remove the favourite setting on each series recording, if you want.

* Notes:
- If you have multiple recorders you only need to delete the series recordings assigned to the Humax device.
- You 'may not' need to delete series recordings that are already being recorded in folders.
- If you have only been using IceTV since before you purchased the Humax then you 'may' only need to delete those series recordings that the Humax has been recording.

The disappearing EPG has come back again. It's the original issue where station groups such as nine/go/gem are blank- until you scroll over them. With the cursor on them they show - but once you scroll past they go again. It seems to vary between the channel groups - as in only affects abc or ten or nine or seven

UPDATE- and back to normal- no reset - no reboot. I have the power saving features on. This has been an issue right from the start

I thought I would mentioned that I had two shows not go in to their folders last night:

"Up All Night" was a new series recording, but no folder was created for it.

"Revenge" is a series recording which already has a folder with previous episodes in it. Last nights episode was not saved in the folder.

Have done the reset previously which fixed the issue. Will keep my eye on it to see if it happens again.

Thanks Dave.  This has worked for me, albeit fiddly.  I see the trick too -- nothing was known as a series, and hence wasn't flagged as something to be stored in folders.

But honestly, you'd think that is what resending all the recordings from the website would do :/

Was attempting to use the Android client to do all this work too, but even though it would accept selections of "first and repeats", and prefer high def, once saved, and you'd go back in there, they were forgotten/ignored.

I ended up having to use m.icetv :(
