Heyas,

Given up on Vista, running Feisty and MythTV.

But Ubuntu has a new funky way of installing mythtv. When running through the setup guide it says to alt tab into the console to put your username password. That doesn't come up anymore. Myth-setup is run during logon, so I neve open a console. Are there instructions to use the perl file seperate from myth? Or can I invoke it some other way?

To answer my own question, because MythTV logs in automatically, so you dont get the option to run it in a terminal. I got around it this way.

enable ssh server
log on using another computer, ssh -X -C mythtv@insert.ip.here
now run mythtv-setup from the console.

I have since given up on MythTV, it's interface is awful, and missed half my recordings. So back to a buggy Vista for me.   :'(

<alt><tab> get's you to the console window.
What kinds of issues did you have with MythTV? I've set it up on an oldish P4 2.4G using a pathetic VisionPlus VP-3021 card and found that It couldn't handle HD broadcasts, the picture froze and any keypress (eg:esc) took in excess of 60sec to be responded to.

What hardware were you running?

Too much technology! My head hurts.
