Films on USB that are wider than 16:9 aspect ratio looks squashed

The only two choices in the Humax 7500T ITB menu are 16:9 and 4:3.

Does anyone know of a way to play movies that are even wider
than 16:9 without them looking squashed?

Humax have told me that the 7500T does not support any formats other than 4:3 and 16:9 and there's no fix.

correct. I gave up on the Humax for media playback- its just too awkward. I use it only for live TV and the guide now
