Only/prefer HD only/prefer SD - are they of any use any more?

When the high definition services were a simulcasts, sometimes genuinely in high definition, of the broadcasters main services, which also simulcast their analog channels, the only/prefer HD only/prefer SD options made some sort of sense. Now SBS is the only broadcaster that simulcasts its main channel on HD. Genuine HD on SBS is a rare thing. SBS, like the ABC, is permitted to count upscaled SD in its HD quota. A few sports events have been broadcast from HD sources on SBS - the 2009 Ashes tour of the UK, and in some recent years some of the Tour de France coverage, but little else as far as I recall.

Is there really much point to this option any more? Wouldn't it be more useful and flexible to be able to select the service that you want to record, rather than the HD/SD preference? Being able to select the service rather than (or as well as) the broadcaster will also address some of the requests to allow recording of the repeat of a show on another service a few days after the first run broadcast (what the networks cutely call "encores").

Yep, I and others have been banging on about this for well over a year now, but nothing has happened - not even a reply from any of the ICETV staff.

Ability to specify the service would be much more useful than the current choice of all, HD preferred or SD preferred.
