Moving Files to PC

Does anyone know if it is possible to transfer files from the Beyonwiz to the PC, as was possible with the Topfield?

Simple answer - NO, not from PC

Original advertising and information on early boxes said this was possible and a feature.
Early reviews also said that it would be available in a few months with a firmware upgrade.

To date, this feature has not been added.

This is definitely possible across the network.

You can use the WizFX software from Beyonwiz on a Windows based PC to copy files from the Beyonwiz to the PC. This is available for download from the beyonwiz.com.au website.

Yes, very simple.

It can be done over a network either from BeyonWiz menus or software on the PC. Or by using a USB stick or drive.

The mechanism described there won't do quite the right thing if the recording has been edited on the Beyonwiz. Some of the material that had been edited out on the Beyonwiz will "leak" back into the recording you prepare on the Mac. The "leakage" can be as much as  ~16sec on either side of an edit (average about half that) for HD recordings, and about double that for SD recordings. Exact values depend on the actual broadcast bitrate.

This "leakage" isn't of much consequence if all you've done is a rough "top and tail" of the recording on the Beyonwiz, but would be annoying if you'd gone to the trouble, say, of editing out ad breaks, because you'd probably want to go and re-do the edits on Streamclip.

This problem only affects programs edited on the Beyonwiz, and a leakage at the start of recordings started manually.

The structure of a recorded file on the Beyonwiz is a bit more complicated than just the concatenation of all the numbered files. Especially see the description of the trunc file.

On a PC, this problem can be avoided by using WizFX or getWizPnP to transfer the recording as a single .TS file. On a Mac, use either MacFX or getWizPnP to transfer as a .TS file. On Linux, you can use getWizPnP to transfer as a .TS file. Transferring to a single .TS file using any of these programs will stitch the individual recording files into a singe recording with exactly the contents that the edited recording would have if you viewed it on the Beyonwiz. WizFX can be downloaded from the Beyonwiz downloads page. getWizpnp can be downloaded from www.beyonwizsoftware.net. Source code of the  beta version of MacFX can be downloaded from www.OpenWiz.org. You'll need to have the Mac Xcode utilities loaded to do the download and build (they're optional software on your Mac installation DVD).
