I have the toppy 5000, and the icebox1. I just noticed that my guide entries have stopped 2 days from now, so checked my update settings to see the following;

Preparing to load data from server
Retrieved data from server
Failed to transfer (/tmp/ice/20080317_20080317100603_EPG_CACHE) to Topfield (\ICE)
Failed to process data from server
Fetch failed

Tried rebooting the icebox and toppy, but can't get it to work.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jason.

I've got exactly the same thing. Been working for months, and all of a sudden I'm getting no lovin' from my Icebox.

If I restart the Toppy, the Icebox Tap tells me to force a fetch and restart. But forcing a fetch results in the same error as korn23 is seeing. The full log file shows:

This looks familiar, I have seen this messsage a bit with my slug when the USB goes silly between Toppie and slug (years ago mind you, I haven't had this for years)  quote: Aug 13 11:55:53 icebox kern.warn kernel: usb_control/bulk_msg: timeout
Aug 13 11:55:53 icebox kern.warn kernel: usbdevfs: USBDEVFS_BULK failed dev 7 ep 0x82 len 4096 ret -145

Did you firmware upgrade your Topfield at all?   There is a speed hack patch that makes USB transfers 50% quicker, but the puppy application and/or the icebox software will need an update to support that (I can't see from your logs if it is using puppy for transfers, I can see it uses it for determining the free space on your drive).
Actually, some 5K firmwares had some USB transfer bug fixes, but it is strange yours has been fine until now.
Do you have anything else running that is accessing the Topfield at the same time, like an ftp transfer, or toppypc or something?

If you attempt ftp transfers, also be careful to ensure your ftp package doesn't try multiple connections to the Toppy, as this does hang the USB up (needing a restart to sort out).

Thanks for your help tony,

Yes, I did do a firmware upgrade, but about a month ago with no issues. Hard drive got itself corrupted over the weekend (tried to delete a 0Gb recording, toppy hung and had to reformat).

I made sure to not include the USB speedup hack. I usually use Filezilla to transfer to/from, only used toppytools to do the firmware upgrade. To make sure, I shut down everything, then started up Icebox and Toppy in that order, then opened a browser to force guide fetch.

Also strange that I can transfer files via FTP with no problem, its just the file fetch which hangs it up.

Will keep trying..
