IceTV EPG Content / Louis Theroux's Weird Weekends
July 11, 2016, 01:54:45 PM
Hi Folks,

I am receiving multiple errors when trying to record Louis Theroux's Weird Weekends.

Last night it was the only show I was trying to record, but it errored with a timer conflict message. It's set up to record tonight with one other show playing (two eps same network) and has errored again. I have cancelled and re-queued and the same issue persists. Any assistance gratefully received. I am particularly curious about last night as there were literally no other shows being recorded (I concede that tonight's other recording may create an issue despite our PVR being meant to handle same network recording, my understanding is that IceTV cannot control any issues with this behaviour)

I've raised this under ticket 61108 but received an auto reply advising no support on Monday's, as the show is on tonight I thought I would try here. PVR is a Topfield 2400.

Thanks in advance

Thanks Ian, edifying as always.

ABC2 was never disabled hence my trepidation to switch the other six channels back on. Although I suppose ABC2 would not have more than two channels worth of data, meaning I should be able to turn two or three back on.

I'll report back later this week. Thanks.

Could have sworn I updated on this. So strange.

In any extent, ecstatic to advise the fix works, meaning I must have never done it correctly in the first place. Also ecstatic to see that Filezilla is working fine, I'm getting 1 -2 hours of uptime per connection so I'm back able to transfer 100+gb's once more (I accrue an annual backlog, so much better than just deleting it).

Only thing is now I've disabled six channels, and I'm loathe to spend more time on this given we need ABC2 and to add channels back on seems to be tempting fate. Maybe will give it a crack in a few weeks.

Not holding my breath that Topfield will fix this, but genuinely surprised this is not a problem in other countries as well.

Thanks for the prompt reply Dave, valuable information!

I had not disabled the unticked channels at any stage, this might be why rebooting remained. A little bizarre than the situation improved for a while after I unticked (only), I guess that was a coincidence.

Ice TV stopped rebooting when the service itself was disabled the first time around, haven't retested since it's gotten worse & agree that this may well be a new issue (or possibly both issues together). I'll report back later this week. Thanks.

I thought I would update that I'm still getting reboots. Today have gone from 4 disabled channels now to 6, hope fully that will help things. The only sticking point might be that I need to keep ABC2, we use it all the time and record shows etc and it is not disabled. If ABC2 really is a problem specifically then I could be a in spot of bother.

The second step will be to transfer the remaining recordings and reformat the HDD, this has fixed issues in the past and it could be that i'm dealing with a corruption of some type. Problem is the Toppy often reboots mid transfer so I'll need to open up the box, always a struggle to find the time.

Excellent, thanks Ian

Can I ask, I'm a little unclear from searching this site, what is the purpose of 'LCN = All'? What purpose does it serve? Thanks & sorry if I've missed clear info on this.

The reason for the All option is so that people can have a guide on the simulcast channels. Like 2 and 21 which are both ABC One.

All doesn't give you all channel numbers for the selected channel. It just gives you a guide for all of the simulcast channel numbers available for the selected channel. e.g. If you set ABC One to All you would get a guide on 2 and 21. And if you set 7 Digital to All you would get a guide on 7, 70 and 71.

Most channels do not have a 2nd or 3rd channel that broadcasts the exact same TV signal so the All settings does nothing for those channels. But in regional regions many of the channels have city and regional channel numbers.

Theoretically the recorder is supposed to be able to pick which one the multiple channel numbers it has available to set the recording on.

Thanks for the info  Dave, appreciate it.

Disabling some channels has definitely fixed the reboot issue, however the other day the option to watch FTA itself was greyed out which was very odd. Scheduled recordings and playback still worked fine. It's magically fixed itself for now so haven't tried factory resets etc just yet.

What a fascinating read and such a relief my latest Toppy reboot problem is from a common issue.

If I can add, after I saw disconnecting my 2400 stopped the rebooting I then noticed that many of my channels were set to 'LCN = all', almost certainly connected to the big retune in early March. I've since assigned a default number for each one, saved, flushed the guide and it's a case of so far so good. Perhaps Dave's fix had resolved the issue anyway.

Can I ask, I'm a little unclear from searching this site, what is the purpose of 'LCN = All'? What purpose does it serve? Thanks & sorry if I've missed clear info on this.

EDIT: Spoke too soon, Toppy is rebooting again. I'll disable some channels and see how I go.

IceTV EPG Content / Re: Free vs Paid

Quote from: IanL-S on December 08, 2015, 03:38:39 PMI will continue to support IceTV as I cannot see how I can do what I currently do without it.

Agree. I remember the days of using a PVR with an FTA guide and missing episodes was a given. Point blank, the networks engage in unethical practices for $$$ and if they didn't Ice TV probably couldn't exist.

IceTV is not for everyone but the alternatives are either a lot more expensive (Foxtel, Fetch TV) or inferior by an order of magnitude. I genuinely struggle to see how FTA / Freeview EPG usage will provide better PVR recordings over time given it is provided by the same companies actively seeking to manipulate your viewing habits.

Hi Folks,

Quick update...I unplugged the network cable, powered up, disabled Ice TV then turned off the PVR, plugged the network cable back in and logged back in to Ice TV. Seems to have worked. Thanks.

My Toppy 2400 is stuck in a boot loop unless I unplug the network cable. TPG is my ISP.

I'll wait till Sunday as advised but thought I should report this just in case.

Hi Dave,

Amazing! Fantastic news! Well done, congrats to you and the remaining staff & I'm incredibly relieved that IceTV is continuing. Whoever pulled the strings to get this together at the last minute deserves a massive pat on the back.

I'll be honest, I am upset that I am losing my ten year sub (I think I had till 2024 or similar) but I will take this over losing IceTV any day.

Thanks again & congrats on a successful rescue.

Thanks Ian you're a legend.

SmartEPG looks the business, will try that first, and thanks for the heads up on TMSTimer.

Folks,

I know topics like this have been done to death, but with the tragic passing of Ice TV, I thought it might be worthwhile consolidating the best TAP(s) to use to replace the service. It may be a handy reference for any distraught visitors that have never used TAPs before (like myself) over these next few days. What ones do you use to most closely match Ice TV?

TMSAutoScheduler
JustEPG
TMSTimer
TMSArchive

Which of these do you need - some of them? All of them? Any advice appreciated.
