SKIPPA / Re: IceTv in Voluntary Administarion

You don't need to reverse engineer the protocol. There is already an open source implementation of the new API on the Beyonwiz T-series. It was available well before the Skippa even went on sale (actually, even before IceTV decided on who would OEM the Skippa) and it was the first PVR to support the new IceTV API.

Any chance you can provide a link? Is it the same as your (old) stuff at http://icebox.sourceforge.net/?

A friend made the following suggestion:
I already thought of that myself so earlier this week I inserted a raspberry pi in bridge mode series with my toppy and used wireshark to capture the http dialog to reverse engineer the protocol. Most home routers allow you to set explicit DNS entries.

I wasn't defending them, just stating an opinion. Your comments are out of line.

His comments and criticisms are completely sensible. A few others here have complained that they are not receiving ICE emails so why should ICE respond only within a PM? I'm sorry but your "explanation" makes no sense.

Apparently rat has been banned from this forum. Clearly ICE don't like any public criticism.

My PVR has been recording shows fine, at least since the website issues were fixed. However today I have received two odd failure emails:

Channel: NITV
Time: 2015-06-21 04:00:00
Duration: 60
Device Label: pvr
Device Type: Topfield TF7100HDplus
Message from recorder: TASK_MSG_INVALID_SERVICE
Last Updated: 2015-06-16 12:34:03

and later:

Show Name: National Nine News
Channel: Nine Digital
Time: 2015-06-21 18:00:00
Duration: 60
Device Label: pvr
Device Type:  Topfield TF7100HDplus
Message from recorder: TASK_MSG_INVALID_SERVICE
Last Updated: 2015-06-16 18:03:17

The first one doesn't even have a "Show Name"? When I click on it I don't recognize the program in the guide.

Why are these timers being set so many days ahead? What does INVALID SERVICE mean? I've never seen this before. Are these bugs in the new website?

We're almost finished with the XML API but need a few more months to "harden" its robustness, so that developers can use it without affecting other users.

"Real soon now" was what ICE said to me 8 years ago. See http://forum.icetv.com.au/iceforum/smart-recording-website-and-general-questions/35/plea-to-ice-for-a-generic-remote-device/859/.

I'm using Topfield TRF2400.
FYI, I have a 7100HDPlus which is essentially the same as a 2400. I was still missing some of my recordings by Thu last week and I could not add them manually by deleting/re-adding etc. So I followed the procedure at http://support.icetv.com.au/entries/22468327-How-do-I-clear-out-the-cached-guide-and-reservations-and-force-an-update-without-a-factory-reset- which fixed all my issues. That just requires a rescan of your service list and to re-add your ice account, not a factory reset which I was loathe to do.

Great, the more beta-testers the better. Go for it Guys!

I am pleased your pre-padding worked, and that you did not miss any of the show.
I missed the start of Broadchurch (the program immediately before Fortitude) due to this issue. :(

I only use 2 min padding. I think I recall missing the start last week as well? 2 mins is normally plenty because programs almost never start early.

I don't know how I missed that as I had looked around. However, I see that another day later they have moved search back to the main page! Thanks.

PS Edit: Actually, the web site seems to be changing as I was using it and posting here. Now, all the filter options have been moved back to the main page. However, the search text field seems orthogonal to the other search options, i.e. entering some text in the search box seems to ignore the other options. I think you should put the search box on the main page but leave the other filters under "More Options". That would also look better aesthetically and save space.

The new web interface has dropped the search function. Any plans to restore this?

Mike, have a read of this thread which I raised 7 years ago(!) here ...

Daniel, I don't like the way the Android (and iOS?) app does a bulk background sync and it has other annoyances (like how returning from a program synopsis from the search page always goes back to the start of the search list which is just infuriating) so I have always used the m.icetv.com.au mobile view web app which has been quite good. However, with the new website it seems this is not supported anymore, or at least it looks very odd atm. What is the plan for this?

Could that be done by anyone (say a TV repair person)

To back up what Paul55 said, if you give that toppy link I quoted above to any competent person who has experience with electronics then it should be a piece of cake. I am just a home hacker with a little soldering experience and I found it very easy to do myself. I used quality Panasonic caps from Element14, or RS components, can't remember which but it was one of those two. My TF5000 has been used extensively every day for 10 years and is still going strong.

Have you replaced the power supply capacitors? It is not too hard. See http://members.optusnet.com.au/~toppytools/pwrcircuit.htm.

My 5000 started playing up a few years ago. I replaced the caps and it is still running and well used by the kids every day. My own program, previously running on a NSLU2 but now a Sheevaplug, has been downloading ICE xml guide data and finding and setting recordings every night for the last 9 years, using EPG_uploader to set the guide and timers.
