In the last 2 weeks has your Topfield started rebooting every 2 minutes when IceTV is enabled?

If yes, please see the solution in the IceTV Knowledgebase Article here.

Link broken? Right click on the link and select 'open in new tab' or 'open in new window' etc.

Note: This poll is just for me personally to get an idea of the numbers of people interested in getting full IceTV series recording support added to their favourite computer or NAS recording software. It is NOT a guarantee that the software with the most votes will get IceTV Interactive support added to it.

SKIPPA / Brisbane ch 91 & 93 on Skippa
December 16, 2015, 06:05:54 PM
I've just discovered, and fixed, an incorrectly mapped channel in the Brisbane region that would have been causing Nine's guide and recordings to show and record on GO! and vice versa if viewing/recording the channels on 91 and 93.

Channels 9 and 99 were correct. It only affected the new channel numbers (LCNs) 91 and 93.

This only affected Brisbane and not the retransmitted channels from the Gold Coast or the Sunshine Coast.

If your Skippa picks up the Brisbane channels from Brisbane you should restart it from 'Menu > Settings >General > Restart'.

If you are trying to subscribe and get an error saying "Error 504 setting up eWay transaction" it is because the banking gateway, eWay, has an issue and their engineers will have it back up ASAP.

SKIPPA / Unable to Renew?
November 07, 2015, 08:23:22 PM
We have noticed some people are having trouble checking out of the shopping cart.

If there is an error with the information you have entered the error will be shown in a banner at the top left of the page.

Some failed renewals have been because of invalid phone numbers. e.g. 2 phone numbers or a word where there should only be 10 digits. If you replace whatever word or text you currently have in the phone number field with a 10 digit number (starting with 02, 03 04, 07 or 08) you should then be able to process the payment successfully.

Also make sure that your browser or computer is not automatically filling in the phone number with your username.

General Discussions / IceTV Resurrected
October 16, 2015, 11:59:20 AM
Goods News Everyone

The necessary staff with IceTV experience have returned and the IceTV TV Guide will resume being updated from tomorrow.

  • The TV Guide will be available only as a monthly subscription for $7.99 each month, paid by the month.
  • Each subscription will support up to 5 recording devices.
  • There are no unlimited, lifetime, multi-year or single-device subscriptions.
Existing accounts, including series recordings etc, remain intact. But unfortunately any remaining time on existing subscriptions from the old IceTV company will expire *soon.

* All existing subscriptions will be honoured until the new payment gateway is operational. We will notify all customers what to do before their subscription expires.

Skippa

Unfortunately all Skippa's unlimited TV guide subscriptions from the old IceTV company will also *soon expire.

  • Anyone with a Skippa will need to have a monthly TV guide subscription (for $7.99 each month, paid by the month).
  • Skippas will count as 1 of the 5 devices allowed to use each subscription.
  • If you purchase a subscription to use with another device your Skippa can use that subscription as well.
  • The latest 1.1.10604 version software will soon be available to download for updating from a USB stick.

Personally, after contemplating TV recording without IceTV, I think $7.99 each month is better than the alternative of manually setting daily and weekly timers on my old PVRs and wondering how to avoid recording repeats on my new PVRs.

cheers

UPDATE: See IceTV Resurrected

IceTV as a TV guide and smart recording service almost survived. But a number of vital employees declined to take up the offer of working for the new version of IceTV so it's all over. Everything needed to produce and supply a hand curated TV guide with smart scheduling still exists, except the necessary staff.

Colin O'Brien and his family want to thank everyone for their support over the last 10.5 years. Without the many loyal customers IceTV wouldn't have lasted as long as it did or been as popular as it was.

I personally want to thank all those who have been supportive of me and offering kind words over the last week.

cheers

SKIPPA / Wireless Connection Solution
October 13, 2015, 03:22:50 PM
Issue:

Skippa won't connect to wireless network for some people.

I have discovered that there is a wireless networking bug in the original software version.

Other known wireless network issues:

- Failure to attach the included WiFi antenna (remove blue cover on back of Skippa and attach antenna there).
- Some (all?) software versions to date are known to not connect to some routers when the wireless network does not use a wireless password (passphrase or key).

Solution:

After updating the software on your Skippa to 1.1.10600 or later the WiFi will connect as it should. If not, make sure that your network uses a password and you have entered it correctly (and selected the correct network).

Obviously the Skippa needs a network connection with Internet access to be able to update it's software. If you are unable to connect your Skippa wirelessly you will need to temporarily connect it to your router via an Ethernet cable to do the software update. You will also need it connected to a TV screen or a computer monitor that has a HDMI input. An antenna cable would help but should not be required.

Once you have connected it via a network cable and finished the setup process you can do the software update from "Menu > Settings > Device Info > Check for Updates".

After it has updated the software and rebooted, you can connect it to your WiFi network via "Menu > Settings > Network".

After you have it connected to your WiFi network, you can turn it off and take it back to the main TV, connect the antenna and HDMI then do an auto channel scan if needed via "Menu > Settings > Channels".

Note: Skippa may reboot a couple of times as it sorts things out and may appear to freeze at points during the setup wizard, especially if you don't or didn't have an antenna cable connected.

SKIPPA / Freezing causes and solutions?
October 10, 2015, 02:31:11 PM
For those with a Skippa that freezes regularly there can only be 2 possible causes: Either a software bug or a hardware fault.

Software:

The next software update, as I understand it, contains a low level firmware (middleware) change to fix a known bug that results in a number of processes ceasing to work. i.e. IceTV stops updating (and new timers don't record), timers can record for very long periods, autoskip stops processing files etc. I believe this bug could be the cause of many of the reported freezing issues, and therefore the next update software update may fix most software related freezing issues.

Hardware:

Out of all of the Skippas IceTV has setup and operating at the office, and staff have at home, 1 of them regularly froze after it warmed up. Restarting it by pulling the 12 volt plug out for 10 seconds would only solve the problem for about 10 minutes then it would freeze again. Out of curiosity I plugged in a power supply from a working Skippa into this Skippa that constantly freezes... and the freezing stopped. Using a multi-metre I checked the output voltage of the power supply from the freezing Skippa at 12 hour intervals but it was always outputting a touch above 12 volts, as it should. I never checked this power supply under load.

My conclusion is that this particular power supply stops outputting enough power under load when warmed up. If I'm correct, the fix for Skippas that constantly freeze every 10 minutes making them unusable may be to try a suitable cheap generic 12 volt power supply.

Instead of manually editing each of your series recordings and changing the selected device, SKIPPA owners might want to wait a couple of days.

We are adding an option on the website make it easy to copy all of a device's series recordings to another device. This will be a big help for  anyone adding a new SKIPPA or T series Beyonwiz to their account to replace an existing device.

When you add a new device to your account you will be able to click on the Transfer option and have all of your old device's series recordings copied over to your new device.

A number of customers have reported that after updating their Topfield to the new 2015 firmware they can no longer set recordings from the guide by pressing OK twice or pressing Record. Turning the Topfield off at the rear switch for a minute does not help.

The solutions is to do a factory reset.

  • Save your settings: 'Menu > Installation > System Recovery > Store System Data > Yes'
  • Reset to Factory Defaults: 'Menu > Installation > System Recovery > Factory Setting > Yes'
  • Restore your settings: 'Menu > Installation > System Recovery > Recover System Data > Yes'
Now check that IceTV is still enabled:

  • Enable IceTV: 'Menu > Settings > IceTV'
  • Select 'User Info' and enter the PIN code (0000 or 2606)
  • Scroll down to the bottom to "OK" and press OK
  • You should see the message "Login Successful"

If the above does not fix it you will need to do a reset again but this time do NOT restore your saved settings.

Humax / New Software - Feb 2014
February 21, 2014, 02:44:34 PM
Humax have released new software (firmware) for the Australian Digital TV PVR models (HDR-7500T, HDR-7500T/V and the lesser spec'd Harvey Norman model: HDR-7510T).

The big change for 7500 owners is increased padding choices (which eliminates the only benefit that the 7510 previously had over the 7500).

Check your Humax PVR's current software version

To check whether your Humax PVR already has the latest software installed:

  • Go to 'Menu > Settings > System > System Information'
  • Check if the software version number is 1.08.21

Update your Humax PVR's software to the latest version

To update your Humax follow the simple steps outlined here:
http://support.icetv.com.au/entries/20414081-How-do-I-upgrade-the-firmware-of-the-Humax

What's changed?

See your model below for a list of what's changed.

IceTV EPG Content / Briz31 - Brisbane channel 44
June 01, 2013, 03:24:26 PM
I have a question for any Brisbane residents.

Is the time on your digital TV device correct while viewing channel 44?

During a discussion with a customer living in Brisbane we discovered that the time on his PVR jumps back 10 hours when switched to channel 44. Then when switched to another channel the time corrects itself.

For example:
- The current local time was 13:05  (1:05pm)
- When watching channel 44 the time showed 03:05  (3:05am)
- When watching channel 9 the time correctly showed 13:05  (1:05pm)

I am wondering if all brands of TVs, STBs and PVRs are having the same issue with ch44 in Brisbane, or is it just his PVR.

Can people living in Brisbane please check the displayed time from ch44 on their digital TVs, STBs and/or PVRs and reply here, as follows:

1. Ensure that the device is using auto time mode (not manual or Internet time).
2. Change to channel 9 and press the info, or ( i ), button and note if the time is correct.
3. Change to channel 44 and press the info, or ( i ), button and check if the time changes by 10 hours (it may take 15 seconds).
4. Reply here with the brand and type of device and if the time was correct on channel 44.

The IceTV guide team accidentally marked last night's episode of The Block on NBN at 7:30pm as a repeat, for the Gold Coast and Northern NSW regions.  Luckily that episode is repeated a couple of times this week (tonight and Saturday afternoon).

To allow the recorders of customers' in those 2 regions to automatically record the affected episode we have removed the repeat flag for tonight's episode on GO! (5:30-6:30pm) and for Saturday's episode on GO! (3-4pm).

Humax / Disappearing Guide Solution
December 14, 2012, 09:37:09 PM
Humax Support have suggested that the 1.08.04 software update fixes the blank guide issue but you need to have dynamic channel updating turned off.

To turn off Dynamic Update:
- Press menu.
- Select Settings and press OK.
- Select Installation and press OK.
- Enter 0000
- Select Dynamic Update and press OK.
- Select OFF and press OK.
- Press Exit to close the menu.

Feedback welcome on whether this works for you or not.

Note: Network and Internet connection quality and speed can still cause IceTV issues on a Humax. If you have network or Internet dropouts or a slow download speed (like when you go over your monthly data quota) you may still experience guide issues or messages until your network condition improves.
