General / New firmware released for IceBox 1.11.6
March 21, 2024, 03:37:36 PM
We have a new firmware update available for the IceBox that is recommended for all users.

We have worked long and hard on this release to ensure that a soft reset is not required as part of the upgrade, however if you do experience issues after the upgrade then we would recommend performing a 'soft reset' using the procedure at How do I reset the network or IceBox or rescan channels?

This firmware has the following updates:

  • All new firmware based on version 11.0.6 of the LibreELEC operating system with lots of stability and performance improvements.
  • Massive overhaul of IceBox's timer handling to ensure you never miss your scheduled recordings.
  • We have changed the format of recorded shows to ensure that subtitles (closed captions) are now available on recordings. This will apply only to newly recorded shows.
  • Timeshift has been enabled to allow for automatic rewinding of live tv.
  • AutoSkip has been added to this firmware, so when possible commercials will be automatically detected and then skipped during playback. This will apply only to newly recorded shows.

NOTE: If doing an upgrade subtitles will be enabled by default on all recordings (after performing a soft reset it will default to off). To change this:

  • Start watching a previously recorded show then press the "OK" button on the remote control.
  • Go across to the "Subtitles" option along the menu at the bottom of the screen (it's the second last option) and select it by pressing the "OK" button on the remote control.
  • Change the setting to off for "Enable subtitles", then scroll down to "Set as default for all media" and press the "OK" button on the remote control.
  • It will ask you confirm the change, select "Yes".
  • Go across to the "Close" button on the right of the window, then press the "OK" button on the remote control.

Automatic commercial detection is enabled by default on this firmware. If you wish to disable it, please follow these steps:

  • On the home screen of the IceBox if you go down to "Add-ons".
  • Then go across to the big "IceTV" logo and press the "OK" button on the remote control.
  • On the settings screen select "Automatic Commercial Detection" to disable it.
  • Go across to the "OK" button on the right hand side, then when highlighted press the "OK" button on the remote control.

The update to this firmware is almost completely automatic, the IceBox checks with our servers for a new release and will download it automatically for you.

Once it has downloaded you will get a notification in the top right hand corner of the screen that advises that an update is available.

When you see this message all you need to do to apply the firmware update is to reboot the IceBox.

Press the power button on the remote control and a menu will come up for "Power Options", go down to "Reboot" and press the "OK" button on the remote control.

The IceBox will reboot twice, after the first reboot you will see some text on the screen as the update is applied, then it will reboot again into the new IceBox firmware. You will know the process is complete once the normal IceBox home screen is shown.

The first time the new firmware loads a migration of your settings will occur, this will include a re-scan of channels, this is all automatic and you will be updated on the progress through it. Once the migration is complete your IceBox will reboot one last time.

General Discussions / New feature testing
July 26, 2021, 09:04:48 PM
Hi Everyone,

We are in the process of testing a couple of new features in IceTV's scheduling system and would like some beta testers to check it out.

The update to our scheduler is focusing on two specific aspects, these are:

  • Not recording multiple airings of the same episode
  • Automatically moving timer conflicts to available airings to try and eliminate missed recordings

Just reply to this thread if you are interested.

Plex / Common setup pitfalls using IceTV with Plex
July 01, 2019, 05:33:55 PM
One of things we are seeing come up regularly is that in regional areas there are commonly a couple of channels that have the same LCN, while normally this is not a problem Plex will ignore any channels with a duplicate LCN.

The good news is there an easy fix for this, on the Guide Settings tab in the My Account menu on the IceTV website you can modify the list of channels that is downloaded by Plex, or limit which LCN's are sent for each channel, if you change these settings and click on Save then just refresh the guide within Plex you should see the updated channel list immediately.

Announcements / IceTV API documentation
March 15, 2016, 05:06:33 PM
Hi Everyone,

We are please to announce that we have just released the documentation for the IceTV EPG and Smart Recording API.

With this documentation it is possible for PVR projects to be able to integrate into IceTV's EPG and Smart Recording service.

To be able to utilize the service an application developer will need to be apply for a developer key, this can be done by emailing developer@icetv.com.au (this is detailed in the documentation).

The documentation can be found at http://developer.icetv.com.au/

With the launch of new channels (TEN HD, 7flix, along with 9Life and 9HD in NBN areas) we need to get the DVB Triplets for these channels so the guide information can be mapped correctly.

We need the following information for each channel in each region:

TSID
ONID
SID
Channel Name
Region

QuoteTo get these id numbers for each of these channels on the Beyonwiz T2/T3/T4 units:

- First you will need to make sure that you are in Intermediate or Expert mode.
  - In T4, T2 and recent T3 software versions go to 'Menu > System > GUI Settings' and change the 'Setup Mode' to Expert.
  - In older T3 software versions go to 'Menu > System > OSD Settings' and change the 'GUI Mode' to Expert.

Now you are ready to write down the TSID, ONID and SID numbers.

1. Change channel to one of those channels that has no IceTV guide data.
2. Exit any menus, EPGs and guides etc. i.e. Go to live TV.
3. Go to 'Menu > Information > Service'.
4. Once you are in the 'Information > Service' menu, press the Green button.
5. Now note the TSID, ONID and SID details shown for this channel.

Repeat steps 1 to 5 for all other affected channels, and reply to this thread with the details.

QuoteTo get these id numbers for each of these channels on the SKIPPA units:

1. Press Menu.
2. Select Settings and press OK.
3. Select Channels and press OK.
4. Select one of the affected channels and press the Yellow button.
5. Write down the Frequency MHz.
6. Write down the Triple including the colons.
7. Repeat steps 4 to 6 for the other affected channels.

Reply to this thread with the channel name, number, frequency and triple numbers (on 1 line per channel).

For example:

9 - Nine Sydney - 191.67 MHz - 4114:1056:1057
99 - GO! - 191.67 MHz - 4114:1056:1059

We will update this thread as these channels go live for IceTV in each of these regions.

Tonight IceTV will be performing scheduled maintenance on it's servers between Midnight tonight (22/10/2015) and 6am tomorrow (23/10/2015). We will be moving them to new hardware which will also involve changes to our DNS setup.

What does this mean to me?

During the maintenance window the IceTV service will be unavailable. Also as this includes a DNS change depending on your Internet Service Provider it might take between 24 to 48 hours to come back.

Is there anything I should do to prepare for this?

Any last minute scheduling of shows should be performed this evening before midnight for the next 24 to 48 hours if you have not already.

Hi Guys,

Just a quick heads up that we have soft launched a new feature this afternoon, failed timer notifications.

This will send you an email whenever your PVR sets a timer to failed. The email will include a link to the failed timer under the My Week page of the website and include the details the of the timer itself (including the message from the PVR).

This is an opt-in service and can be enabled under the My Account section of the website, under the Account details tab.

If you set it up please send us any feedback you have as we hope to evolve and refine this feature over time.
