Hi all,

The issue I experience is this: The system will be running fine, padding, recording etc. When I double click on the IceTV icon in the system tray, Windows reports IceTV has crashed and it is looking for a solution. Ice then closes.

When I start it again I can access it fine, no crashes etc - just after a while of running but it crashes again after I minimise it to system tray and try and open it again. I also notice that the app is using quite a large amount of memory (about 90meg after 30mins runtime) - could there be a mem leak here or do I have another problem causing it?

Thanks,
Shane.

IceTV EPG Content / Daylight Savings
March 25, 2007, 08:38:23 AM
Well... I woke up this morning with trepidation, knowing that the last couple of years of daylight savings hadn't gone well with my IceGuide in Media Center (even my wife said - so the guides going to be wrong for most of the day again?).

All I can say is - Congratulations guys... you've finally fixed it and my guide rolled over perfectly with the time change.

Thanks,
Shane.

Hi,

Can you please update the guide... as per here:

So weeknights 19:00 to 19:30 AEST it is Futurama.

Windows Media Center / PIMP Guide Update Error

Thanks,

Team,

I have upgraded to 1.0.0 of the PIMP for MCE software, and I am still having the client crash with .net errors when I have it set to either update the guide and/or do the dvb fix.

These are the errors in the Event log:

There is one other error that PIMP throws, and an image is attached.

If I manually (using a program like Auto Power on & Shutdown from http://www.lifsoft.com/) schedule to close PIMP, run the recycle.cmd file, then restart PIMP, the system remains stable without crashes.

Any thoughts?

Windows Media Center / Netball Problems with MCE
June 17, 2006, 07:41:01 PM
Ice Team,

I have noticed that a scheduled series recording my wife has set up for the Netball Highlights show that is on (I think) Friday nights on ABC is being detected as already recorded pointing to the show that was on last week. It is then not recording it.

Is this a description/ID issue that can be fixed? The show seems to have an identical description to last weeks.

Thanks,
Shane.

XMLTV (General) / "Teen Wof"  ??  :)
April 23, 2006, 09:07:27 PM
Guys,

Looking through the next weeks movies I found a typo. Thursday 27th April at Midday, Teen Wof should be Teen Wolf :)

Thanks,
Shane.

Team,

The daylight savings change has gone wrong on the Ice end this morning.

This is evidenced by my Mac Widget & Media Center both being wrong by an hour this morning. As stated in another thread, my machines were patched correctly and handled the Daylight savings extension without an issue, and changed to the correct time themselves overnight.

But now as of this morning everything in the Media Center Guide and everything in the Widget is one hour early.

Can we get an urgent fix today - this seriously impacts the WAF (Wife Approval Factor).

Thanks,
Shane.

Hi all,

I'm pretty excited to post this as this issue has caused me problems for a while, popping up for no apparent reason. I've previously fixed it by sheduling a system restart twice a week, but with this no more!

The error message given is:
"Cannot schedule recording because guide data cannot be accessed"

Peter Rosser, one of the Developers at Microsoft has posted the following at his blog:

QuoteWe have been getting reports about Guide problems from DVB users across Europe and the world, hopefully in time for the next Rollup release (external date not yet announced, but should be late Q1 to early Q2).  The problem typically manifests itself when scheduling many shows to record, but can occur anytime.  Without a code fix, you cannot work around the issue cleanly/easily, but closing the shell (Media Center UI) and restarting the "Media Center Scheduler Service" (ehsched) will reset the state of the machine.

We root-caused the problem to an unusual memory management problem in how we deal with the Guide data.  For performance reasons, we temporarily increase certain buffer sizes during a Guide download, and decrease them again later.  There is a timing issue with garbage collection events in some situations, though, that can cause the decrease to not take effect "in time", thus keeping the buffer sizes large.  This does not actually reduce the amount of real memory used, but it does exhaust the virtual address space eventually.  You can observe the behavior using SysInternals' Process Explorer by adding the "Virtual Size" column (under the Process Performance tab) and observing its value for ehrec.exe.

With better knowledge of the cause, though, comes a better workaround than "gun ehshell.exe and restart ehsched when it happens".  Until the fix comes out, the best thing to do to prevent this problem from occurring is probably to set up a Scheduled Task to do those things for you at a predictable time.

More info on what you need to do is available at this posting on his site:
http://blogs.msdn.com/peterrosser/archive/2006/02/15/DvbGuideProblem.aspx

Regards,
Shane.

As alot of you know I was one of the first to jump in to the Emerald update when it was just available for OEM's.

I eventually re-installed my main machine due to issues such as channels disappearing etc.

I can now say that I have done the full install of the Rollup 2 and the Rollup for Rollup 2 (links at the bottom) on my test and main machine, and everything is running well.
  • No channels have disappeared
  • HD channels working fine and in sync
  • IceTV guide data working well (for both SD and HD channels)
In my main machine I am using:
Two DVICO Fusion HDTV Lite cards (3.1.1 beta), an nVidia 6600 (78.03), nVidia Decoder (for DVD's only), DVICO HD Decoder for Television (comes with the latest DVICO drivers), onboard audio via SPDIF (HP m1199a).

In my Test machine is:
DVICO FusionHDTV USB (3.1.1 beta), nVidia 6800 GT (78.03), nVidia Decoder (for DVD's only), DVICO HD Decoder for Television (comes with the latest DVICO drivers), onboard audio via SPDIF (Asus P4C800-E).

When I installed on my main machine, I had to go into the "Scan for More Services" and delete all channels, then reboot the system. A channel scan then brought everything up including the D44's and FTVGuide.

I have had intermittent "No signal" messages on Ten HD, but this has only happened twice and is fixed by CH+ then CH-. It also doesn't seem to effect recording so far.

BTW, neither of these were "fresh installs" - the main PC install is about 2.5 weeks old, the test machine never got downgraded from the original OEM Rollup 2 - I just applied the Rollup 2 Rollup (I just love writing that).

Hope this helps anyone with similar hardware.

Now as for the HD channels, some feedback/requests:
1. I would definately like to have "HD" or similar appended to items on the HD channel - it would make it easier to see what I have recorded is in HD, as well as ensure that "series recording" is choosing the right channel (especially when set to "Any Channel" in the settings).

2. Is there any way to remove the MCE HD flag (ie the data that makes MCE display the HD icon) for the data on the SD channel? Now that we have HD channel data we don't really need this (nor is the SD channel actually showing the HD program, so it is in fact incorrect).

3. Can you change "Unknown" to say something like "No HD programming at this time" or similar? Whilst I know unknown means that, it would make the new or occasional user experience far better.

4. Last minute update - can you copy the standard Channel 10 data to the Ten HD channel data, as Channel Ten seem to play everything on the HD channel (SD and HD content), and any shows that are HD are shown as HD. This is where the MCE HD Flag makes alot of sense.

Otherwise I think it is fantastic... helps to zero in on the HD content... Here's hoping the networks start to fill that "Unknown" space up with more content in the near future!

Thanks,
Shane.

Rollup 2 for MCE 2005 (and the patch for it - available after installing Rollup 2 and rebooting) can be downloaded from Windows Update, or you can get the files directly by going to these Microsoft Download sites:

Hi - wondering if anyone else has gotten weird information turning up in their guide. As of about 7pm or so this evening 6/09/05, my ABC channel is showing overlapped shows from ABC and Nine.

Guide refresh hasn't fixed it, nor has removing all channels and setting up again from scratch.

If you have a look at the attached xml file, there are channels 101, 103 & 104 (there may be more) turning up that may be the cause of it?

Thanks,
Shane.

Hi guys,

Loving the guide as you know.

I'd like to know if it would be possible for you to code into the ice web server (guide source) the capability for personalised channel aliases so MCE can then map the same data to other channels?

As an example:
Take "Seven" channel from ice, and allow me to setup aliases to 7 Digital 1, 7 Digital 2, 7 Digital HD etc. So when MCE downloads the guide from my account it would get:

ABC
ABC2 Digital
Nine
SBS
SBS World News Digital
Seven
Seven 1
Seven 2
Seven HD
Ten

But the "new" Seven's would be copies of the "Seven" data. (I hope I have explained that clearly enough).

This would have to be possible yes? It could be stored as part of my account subscription. Maybe you could limit it to 5 aliases per channel or similar to cut down on database needs?

Thanks,
Shane.

I'm lucky I happened to check the ice website as I didn't realise a new MCE guide loader had been released. And what a fantastic release! ;D Now integrated into MCE as an "official" guide download, no more hacks required, batch files, security changes etc... congratulations!

Any words on how you did it? Did you get help from Microsoft to do it?

Regards,
Shane.

I have updated my batch files to make quickguide a little more automated. These are for Sydney Metro, but can be easily adapted for other territories.

1. "caspol" command now done in batch - security turned off to load guide, turned back on when finished, so no longer has to be done as part of the install procedure.

2. New webget command line for registered users. Replace "username" with your supplied username, and "password" with your supplied password. Also change the channel numbers to those you want to pull down. I am requesting Ten, Nine, Seven, ABC, ABC2, SBS and SBS World News.

3. 2nd batch (...reboot) will auto reboot the system once the guide data is loaded. This loads the latest guide without having to wait for MCE to re-cache it itself.

Enjoy.

Shane.

XMLTV (General) / Support for ABC 2 ?
March 08, 2005, 08:18:43 AM
Hello,

I am just wondering if you are planning on adding support in the guide for ABC 2? As I have kids, it would be fantastic to be able to have the guide data for this in the ice EPG.

This is the new digital only channel offering new and time-shifted ABC programming on channel 21.

More details here:
http://www.dba.org.au/index.asp?display=news&newsID=637

And programming information here:

Thanks,
Shane.

I notice the ICE Topfield loader has a "hide" option which allows it to stay running but minimised - I am wondering if an auto schedule function is coming for it for when a Toppy is permanently connected to a PC via USB.

I have this setup, with a long USB cable running from my PC up to my upstairs where my Toppy sits. It would be great to be able to tell the loader to upload new data every "x" days and at a specific time.

Is this something that could be added?

Thanks,
Shane.

Not sure if this is just my issues or is widespread (hence the post).

When I do a guide update with quickguide I have noticed that my scheduled recordings (series) do not automatically propogate into the EPG (ie the red dots don't show). Sometimes I also notice that my scheduled programs (series) show that there are no upcoming episodes, even though the EPG says there are.

Anyone else notice this? And is there a fix?

Thanks,
Shane.

Topfield / Channel "1" in Sydney has no guide data?
February 18, 2005, 08:50:43 PM
Trying to get this to work - I have deleted all channels except the main 5 and I use channel "1" for channel Ten. What do I need to do to make this work?

All other channels have their guide data working.

Oh one other question... is there a way to automate the Toppy ice loader? I'd like to leave a PC connected and have it automatically pull the guide down and load when there is only 2 or so days in the guide?

Thanks,
Shane.

XMLTV (General) / Better Descriptions Possible?
February 04, 2005, 08:08:14 PM
The guide so far is fantastic, but I am just wondering whether it is possible to get more detailed information in the descriptions of show, similar to what is possible if the data is pulled from ebroadcast via TVxb ?

What I really want is per episode information for shows, unlike the generic description that is in the iceguide at the moment.

Any chance?

Thanks for all the good work.
Shane.
