General Discussions / Kodi, HDhomerun and ICETv
May 12, 2017, 09:16:47 AM
OK OK- there's probably a million Kodi post- but as the search is still broken I can't find them.

I'm readying myself for the imminent failure of my Humax HDR7500T. I have a Nvidia shield TV running Kodi and an HDhomerun as its replacement.  The HDHomerun has its own EPG which is a total POS compared to ICETv. Being a long term icetv user I'd like to use it again for Kodi but can find little on this anywhere. I know there is an XML service which I used long ago on an HTPC so I imagine there will be a plugin to handle Icetv/ Anyone know anything or can point me to a link?

Humax / Iview retired on Humax
June 07, 2015, 05:33:32 PM
Just got the message on the humax that iview is not going to be supported on the humax. That's the end for me and I'll be looking to retire the humax soon. I don't know enough about the skippa to consider it yet.
I hesitate as the humax was supposed to so many things yet failed in most. It is a competent TV tuner and that's about it.
To jump to yet another appliance is not an easy decision. With no control over what apps can be installed and relying on the manufacturers again is not encouraging.

Htpc is still too fragmented. Appliances are too regimented and not supported long enough nor well enough in most cases.

I may just put a haupage tuner in my ancient wdtv live and use that until more comes out on the skippa. Or I may try htpc and again

Humax / Humax vs WDTVlive
April 05, 2014, 08:05:07 AM
I've struggled with the media capabilities of the Humax now for 2 years. Whilst the TV guide is excellent of course and its Free to air TV capability is also very good I will be keeping it for these capabilities only

I have been trialling a WD TV live. A $100 box that plays anything- right up to 1080p no pause no lag. All the formats that the Humax can't play it does. It doesn't have any local storage- because it doesn't need it. It connects to anything- NAS, PC Mac seamlessly. It has multiple network protocols. Its menu is not as slick as the Humax- but with a Harmony remote totally family friendly. It can handle  3000 track playlists without crashing

My point is- that media capabilities are obviously not that hard to do. The WD price indicates that it's not that expensive to deliver either. Humax should be able to deliver decent media capability for the price the Humax units are.

Ah to have one box that does it all eh Ice :) (and no - two HTPC's have proven that option not viable too)

I've reported this to Humax. Yet another bug with 1.08.21

If you stream from another network device to the Humax - the humax starts using bucket loads of internet bandwidth. My kids who use the network all the time first noticed this when their videos on their pcs (ethernet and wifi) started stuttering while we streamed video to the humax. We've always done this and they have never noticed it prior to this firmware. Rolled back to 1.08.09 ( again- because no matter what I try the *&^%ing thing updates the firmware every night) and the problem is gone.

It has to be something to do with their  new web DLNA player. I'm over it- the humax is now disabled and I'm back to using my dumb "smart" TV until this is fixed. I just want a way to turn off auto updates. Even apple allows this and they put out equally shitty firmware updates. I've gone back as far as 1.08.04 and I just cant stop the updates.  >:(.

UPDATE: I've gone back to a really early version - switched off the regular update after a factory reset- then upgraded to 1.08.09. I'll know tomorrow if this worked.

So the latest software has a bug I don't want. I roll back to 1.08.09 which has another bug in that the "regular software update" switch does not work. Its set to off yet every morning the damn thing has updated to the latest again. I'm getting very frustrated with this. If I go back further Iview does not work

Humax / Bug 1.08.21- DLNA
March 02, 2014, 02:05:56 PM
If you use DLNA streaming to the Humax you may want to hold off updating
1. DLNA listing is broken- try browsing a directory not on the humax- it stutters and returns to the top. Most noticeable with music where the mp3 track details are displayed
2. The track details displayed will not change from the first track played. IE select a folder of music tracks - set it on shuffle play. Displays the first track selected for all tracks

Humax / here's one for a quiet forum- video playlist
October 16, 2013, 06:31:03 PM
I have a bunch of video music clips that I'd like to be able to play but not select one at a time. If I try playing it through music it doesn't recognise the files as I guess you'd expect. But music is the only function that has the ability to select more than one file to play.
Any ideas?

No specs yet. looks slick

Now lets hope they don't do a TVIX and stop fixing the code for the 7500

Humax / tversity and humax - transcoding
July 14, 2013, 03:19:36 PM
lazy sunday aftrenoon and trying to make transcoding work with the humax to get around the file support. However I can't seem to make it happen. Anyone managed to get this working?

technically this could be a good workaround for the humax as if tversity works as advertised it would convert all files on the fly for the humax
#11
Ok I know the humax struggles with many formats but why offer youtube if it can't play the files? Last night we were playing music videos via YouTube and the the bulk of them wouldn't play as the humax did not support the format. I ended up hooking my laptop to the tv.

Which reminded me of the terrible file support for streaming and local hard disk. AVIs over 1.5gb won't play. Almost no Mkv files play. Most mp4 files play but some don't. All of them can suffer frame rate issues. No other formats work at all.

And if I use a USB stick and put those same files to the USB port on the tv they ALL play. Without any frame rate issues. And wma files are supported. And stream perfectly.

Then the music player. Can't shuffle folders of music on the local drive and struggles to shuffle streaming music in the same folder on Ethernet.

If a dumb TV can do it the Humax has no excuse.  The humax has come a long way. The portal has been enhanced dramatically. Most of the recording issues are now addressed and the guide works well.  But my tv can do all this except record. I'm at the point where the only reason I still use the humax is for recording and pausing live  tv. I've been waiting over a year for the other features to be fixed and nothing. So now that the primary tv feature works properly can we please get some attention to the other features offered?

Otherwise I can see myself just using the feature set on an $800 tv and retiring the humax. That's sad

Set the Rugby to record today. Had driven out of home and remembered I forgot to send it so used the android Icetv client to set it. cam home and nothing. I suspect as my Humax is set to power off so that the EPG works- the recording failed. :'(

Its time the humax was fixed. Three updates and it still doesn't work fully. Workarounds are fine but not if we can't use the unit as designed

Humax / Do we need a dedicated forum?
March 06, 2012, 11:02:42 AM
IceTV have been very kind as to set this forum up. But as they readily admit the forum is specifically for IceTV issues and not so much for hardware, firmware and other issues that we all hit from time to time. As you may or may not know- the HDR-7500T is a specifically australian model so overseas specific model support does not exist.

I've spoken to Humax who at this stage have no plans to set up a forum- but have offered to casually monitor any forum we would set up. I'm proposing I set up a forum with forummate.com for these issues. Initially it will start with just the Humax model available today and as Humax release new models these could be included.

I'm happy to moderate the initial forum but will need help as the range expands. It might be advantageous to have at least two moderators to help especially as I am away from time to time.

I'm suggesting Firmware, File types and streaming, Hardware, Bugs, and general as the categories. Any and all feedback welcome.

Interested? Please either respond to this thread or PM me. If I get enough response I can set it up this week.

Cheers
Tony

i've had this happen twice over two days now and wonder if my humax has developed a fault. The orange display has disappeared whilst I'm streaming video from a pc. Switch the unit off and on again and it reappears.

Before I send yet another product back has anyone else noticed this?

UPDATE: only seems to happen with streaming- just played a video off the internal drive for 60 minutes with no display loss

UPDATE2 : Humax tech looking at it now

Just started doing this tonight. When I enter the details it says "can't confirm due to the status of the Ice TV server"?

Humax / Bug introduced in 1.05? Try your wide button
January 22, 2012, 08:44:56 AM
Couldn't work out why DVD-rips were distorted on the Humax. Just realised that the wide button no longer has any effect- it says its changing the aspect but it doesn't. It did work in 1.04 "I think" because I know I've used it before successfully. Just tried it on TV , several avi's and an MP4 - no effect on any.
Can someone check theirs out?

EDIT- I found a workaround. Apparently Humax have this bug on some of their european other players. Set your screen ratio to 4:3 in preferences- and then the aspect works fine. It still seems to display the TV in 16:9 for some reason. Damned if I know
Second EDIT - its the change of screen ratio that is the key. If you change this - aspect works fine- but then if you play a file of another type- in my case a VOB - it stops working again. Change the screen ratio againto 16:9 and away it goes. Seems to be the change of ratio that corrects the problem- not necessarily what its set to

Humax / File type support
January 21, 2012, 02:46:59 PM
I'm tryng to work out what file types are supported
So far I've found avi, vob, divx and mp4 is OK- but mkv is not. Anyone want to add to the list?
srt subs are OK but must be ANSI format
Humax has not listed what is supported anywhere. It just says xvid.

Correction. Mp4 plays but the aspect control does not work. It squashes the picture.
EDIT - see my new post. looks like 1.05 introduced a new bug. The wide button no longer has any effect on aspect. There is a workaround

Humax / Dropping frames on playback
January 15, 2012, 02:40:22 PM
Just watched an avi on the internal drive of the humax. About 1 hour 30 in the unit started to drop frames. Stopped and restarted and it went away but returned 10 minutes later. stopped and restarted and ok. I hope the cpu on this thing is up to the job. Maybe humax need to look at what else is running in the background.

Anyone else experiencing this?
