General Discussions / new PVR, want to move timers
October 26, 2015, 11:11:06 AM
Hi,
I am a bit scared to experiment with "delete this device" under "My Recorders" (since I have sooo many series recordings setup over the past 8ish years with ICEtv), does this give the option to move all current series across to one of the remaining recorders in your list?
I went through and slowly changed each one to my new recorder for the current series, but just wondering if there was an easier way of moving all across?

Smart Recording on Android / App annoyance
July 06, 2013, 01:41:13 PM
Hi,
I am finding the app less than useful compared to the web page when rescheduling, say,a recording that has not scheduled due to series recording being for non repeats, but you want to still schedule an individual recording for the repeat.
On the web page, no issues with scheduling individual recordings in an existing series recording. On the app, there is no way this is possible, it always only gives series options? I don't want to edit the series, I just want to do a single recording, to, say, still record a show that night otherwise have not been scheduled due to repeat.

Hi,
I have found there is an issue with the Android app when it comes to ICE updating the schedule.  It appears that the original item is not purged from the EPG list, and so you end up sometimes with two shows on the same channel at the same time being displayed in the app.
e.g. last night had Castaway(1974) (with the description of the 1974 TV series hehe) and Cast Away(2000) for the same timeslot ;-).
e.g. looking right now at the app, we have two Top Gears on Nine tomorrow night at 8.30pm (I have toggled between them a couple of times to try to find the difference, it isn't immediately obvious what was updated for those).

This seems to be a similar issue to ICE fixing up the schedule and not tidying up the interactive timers they sent for the old schedule (I have seen this a few times on the Beyonwiz, where, say, a show moves timeslots, ICE reschedules the timeslot, creates the new timer, but doesn't purge the old timer, and because the old timer is therefore at the same channel/time as a different show, will actually cause interactive to think that the person wants to record this different show, as indicated by a red dot in the interactive guide display).   All schedule changes should be tracked to see if any interactive timers have been created, and ensure that a purge is done of those events that are not current).

Others have mentioned this message in the past, and it appears I am getting it every time now:
Wait 25minutes to get scheduler tasks"... drats, wait, watch as ICE tells it every 5mins how long to wait and/or the Wiz is indicating how long to go, and then, at the end of all the waiting-
Try to get scheduler tasks.
Wait 30minutes to get scheduler tasks.
MSG "Invalid task action" (the message in question).

This has only started since I tried the "resend all" from the account settings the other day, to tidy up the mess I believe ICE has made of Sunday's shows (had the wrong timeslot for a number of shows, that must have been corrected during the week but of course the damage was done for any timers that had been sent in the beginning).
And I am not talking about the quirk (major annoyance!) of the Wiz adding the *current* GMT offset at the time of receiving the timer to add it to the Wiz timer tables, this of course means every timer is out by an hour.    So every show I wanted to be recorded for Sunday, if it hadn't clashed due to too many shows overlapping, had 2 timers for it in adjacent (well if it was a 1hour show it was adjacent) timeslot.

Does ICE send deletes for mistakes or timeslot shifts?   Does the resend all do any kind of mess clean up?   Why does the resend all cause the Beyonwiz issues and indicate MSG "Invalid task action" in the Beyonwiz GUI ICE setup screen (where it shows the running log of getting ICE schedule/guide data)?

It appears I will need to purge the rest of the timers for this week and give "resend all" another shot, but I am not holding my breath, in the past when I did this it basically told the ICE interactive engine "hey, he deleted this timer from the GUI for this week, he obviously doesn't want to record this show for this week so we won't record it for him, even if the resend all is used" and then I have to manually go through every show I wanted to record and choose the "record" option from the ICE web gui.

Oh, one more thing, since doing the resend all (and trying again tonight), all shows have been showing up as doughnuts in the ICE GUI, I guess because the Wiz is not accepting the resent data and reporting the "Invalid task action" error.

And... finally, ICE is showing shows queued to record that I clearly don't want to record, and not showing red dots/doughnuts on shows that I do (but only for Tuesday?), e.g. it is showing Ugly Betty is scheduled but 24 is not, same with Young Ones AND Colby Report vs Durham county, these are on adjacent timeslots (1hour apart) and I expect if ICE simply looks at the show date/time it sees in the Wiz vs the ICE schedule, it would think this same thing for many more shows during the week (as all the Wiz timers are currently an hour out until either the resend-all tidies it all up or I manually do it Sunday morning before I go out so it will catch the F1 etc that is on Sunday evening).

Another edit:
The last timer the Wiz has is Tuesday evening.   For some reason, even the Wiz thinks it is recording Ugly Betty and The Colbert Report, which is strange, as I thought the Wiz used the EPG it knew about at timer creation to label these timers (as evidenced by when the LAN connection dies/is removed for over 5 days, and you plug it in and it first contacts ICE and gets the scheduled events first before it gets the EPG, and so the timers it creates have effectively no name... well *channelName).   Or is this a case of "whoops" for ICE not adjusting the guide correctly at the beginning of the DST change transition, and then later fixing it?  Others have mentioned 7/7HD being out of synch, and others have also noticed ABC similarly impacted.

Anyway, an utter disaster of a transition this time around ICE,  I was expecting the Wiz to set timers for 1hour out, but not for it to get incorrect EPG also at the beginning and set it for 2 hours out effectively.   Please ensure in future you get the transition sorted out well in advance of the event, and have your data auto-adjust on DST transition before it gets sent to our units.   So right now every timer on the Wiz is a mess, and I can't resend all as something is clearly getting confused between Wiz and ICE right now, even with the correct GMT offset setup in the Wiz.

IceTV EPG Content / "V" reruns
March 09, 2010, 07:49:31 PM
According to TV Tonight, V is going to have a few encore/re-runs this week, but I can't find them in the guide.   Hope Nein advertises this fact soon!  I missed the last 10mins or so, wouldn't mind recording one of these re-runs to catch up in a less clashy timeslot now.
#7
Ok, a simple task, find the new show "V".   I gave it a shot a day or two ago, couldn't find it, expected it probably hasn't started yet.   Then see it is definitely starting Sunday according to "tvtonight" so must be in the ICE schedule.   Go to the guide, go to search, type "V" and of course 'Whoa! You searched for something that had a lot of matches, so we've only shown the first 200 results below. ' is the result.  Go to Windows Media Centre, go to guide, go to search, type V, and bingo, perfect match, see the show is on 9 and 90 next Sunday.
ICE, please make your searching for shows a bit simpler/smarter than what it is.    This isn't the first time I have tried to find a show and give up looking either.     Another "got-ya" from the search is when you are in "My Upcoming Shows" and do the search, it doesn't search the guide, it actually searches your upcoming shows (which is not really any point given they are all listed in front of you and you can do a browser page search for the text instead).

Ok, lets go to advanced search.   Ok, choose title, and look, it has exact phrase, perfect.   Type V, and hit search, and what do you know, 200 shows with the letter "v" in their titled, this doesn't appear to be exact phrase matching to me?  Ok, I guess my "v" is exactly matched in lots of show titles, and maybe I might want to search for shows like this in most other cases, but it should not be this hard to find a show that I know exists in your guide (don't suggest to surf your guide looking for it either, the guide layout is terrible for finding anything).

IceTV EPG Content / Mythbusters this weekend a repeat?
December 15, 2009, 10:23:39 PM
Is it a repeat?  Your program description suggests it isn't:
QuoteSat, 19 Dec 2009, 60 minutes, G, Documentary, Science & Tech, WS, CC, Repeat

It's time for more viewer suggestions on an all new Viewer Special episode including The "Eye-Popping Sneeze" myth, which was requested by over 10,000 people, making it the most-requested Myth ever.

IceTV EPG Content / NCIS eps
June 17, 2009, 10:21:20 AM
Hi ICE.
The last couple of weeks, my Wiz has been recording both eps of NCIS when the 2nd ep is a repeat.
Argh... I just looked at the guide, you have marked it as a repeat also....
Nothing to see here, move along :-)

(I figured I would still post this, as *plllllllllleeeeaaaase* enhance either the series recording option to support recording one channel only, not both HD&SD simultaneously... or enhance keyword recording to support more options like not recording repeats, supporting Genres as part of the keyword search string etc.   Both the series recording and the keyword recording methods have enough problems with each that either one is not a solution to solve the other the way it is currently!).
(Yes, I know, I can move NCIS back to a Ten only series recording, but I had this as a keyword when Ten was doing a bit of juggling between HD & SD in the dying stages of TenHD...  but this doesn't solve the problem for shows on Seven and Nine and SBS and ABC!).

Hi ICE.
I have been meaning to post about this for some time, it appears you have WRC on every Sunday when in reality, there are only about 11 or 12 events for the whole year.   This weekend that passed actually *did* have WRC on.    At the end of the rally, they said the next one is in Cataluna (I think..) in mid June sometime, and this was the WRC production team overlay, so SBS is typically about a week or so behind the event.
So is it possible to fine tune your Sunday afternoon lineup a bit to show reality (which seems to toggle between 1 and 2hours of Speedweek, WRC for almost an hour, and occassionally something else for an hour related to motor sport)?

Just lucky I saw the widget didn't have a red dot against it, as it has been successfully recorded the past few weeks so I haven't been keeping an eye on it.
Not so good ICE, marking a repeat against something that wasn't.... this is a far worse sin than forgetting to mark a repeat against something that was.
Seven have always been showing the new eps (especially in this timeslot!) on Mondays and the repeats the rest of the week.   Even the description you have clearly shows this is a new season ep (well, clearly for a Scrubs fan I suppose).

Hi ICE.
I have been having some issues with Interactive this week.   It all started on the weekend, with my keyword recordings for Dexter.   For some reason, ICE created timers for both SD and HD, thus I missed out on 24.
Now NCIS wasn't recorded on Tuesday, and I noticed last night that in both the Widget, and on the Interactive Web, I didn't even have a red dot for House.   When this has happened in the past, a quick look at the guide has shown the eps are/were repeats, but both NCIS and House were not repeats (my Topfield 5K, which uses an open sourced recording scheme called PerlTGD, using ICE XML, had recorded NCIS, so this is what alerted me that it wasn't a repeat, as I tell PerlTGD not to record repeats).
I tried the one off "record" option for House that is presented on a show that is part of a series recording, and it did not queue a timer to the Wiz.   I had to set the timer from the Wiz EPG last night for House to get it to record.
I just looked at "My Upcoming Shows" and I notice that Dexter for next Sunday night has "series recording failed" for the double eps too (I use keyword recording for Dexter as it chops/changes from SD to HD regularly).
I use normal series recording for "this channel only" for NCIS and House, did Ten have NCIS on OneHD on Tuesday night?   This would be another good feature to add, the ability to go back into the past for your guide, so I can determine why things did the things they did (e.g. marked as repeat, not scheduled for that night etc).
What is going on?
I guess, I had better make sure all my "this channel only" shows are edited to be keyword recordings (in case I forget before One goes 24x7 TLA garbage sport).   But then I will pick up repeats... which I really don't want, esp with all those silly eps of repeated NCIS on other nights.

Oh, edit:
"The Biggest Loser", also setup as a keyword record, is working fine.   I see timers uploaded thru to next Monday, and "queued" red donuts to next Wednesday (strange that I get the Wiz to wakeup daily at 4am for 15mins, it should have surely Tuesday uploaded, when did the Wednesday queuing happen?  Or does your system suddenly show queued for a couple of days at a time sometimes).

Argh, just looked at yahoo7.com.au to try to find when 24 is on tonight, because I see in my ICE widget a lovely red dot against "Infamous Assassinations" now!?!?!   I see 24 is showing on 7SD according to the Widget, but only for 30minutes.   So over on yahoo7, with the "whats on now/later" junk, it shows no 24 on at all tonight.   So I pull up the full yahoo7 guide, and finally find 24 on 7SD at 11pm for 1hour (showing "Hot Pick" in the guide, what a joke that is, shafting it left right and centre off HD and moving timeslots on SD and not bothering to show it in the now/later "Primetime TV Guide"...oh, because that finishes at 11pm.. stupid thing).
This is most annoying what Seven and Ten are doing with HD at the moment, I hope ICE you are able to keep up with this garbage.
Any reason why my Widget showed the timeslot on 7HD that 24 was meant to be in lit up??

Ok, I got no response in another thread (discussing HD vs SD prefs) when I said I was having keyword problems (now the ratings season has started again, it has become very obvious!).
Ok, here is my keyword:
24 "Day 7:" -"Final 24"
Why doesn't it work?  I don't want every show with the word "24" in it, and so tried the -"Final 24" to get rid of that silly show, and this didn't work, it still matched "Final 24" for some reason.   So then I put in "Day 7:" which appears to be in the title of the show I want, and this is causing nothing to get matched.  I have a similar problem with "Lost" in that every show with the word "lost" in the title or description is now being matched.
I don't simply want to select the show and make a normal series recording, as Seven is doing an old Ten trick, which is to only sometimes put 24 and Lost on HD now (grrrr!!!)
Is there a regexp trick to getting my keywords just match on the show title (and for 24 and Lost, the whole title)?   Is there a "HD over SD" pref coming *real* soon for standard interactive (non-keyword) recordings?  Either of these would solve my problem I think.

Ok, this has mucked me up yet again, something MUST be done about this.
I have a series record setup for "Californication" on TenHD.   I don't have a red dot for Sunday night, ahh, I see it is only on TenSD this week.    No problems, with the widget, I choose to series record the only episode of Californication this week.   Nope.  Nothing.    I go to the web page instead of the widget, search for Californication, choose to series record "this channel".  Nope.  Nothing.
Then a small synapse clicked "ahh, because I have a series record for the TenHD version, it might be rejecting my attempts to create one for the TenSD version".... and sure enough, in a grey bar at the top of the guide webpage, a "error: already a series recording in place" message is there.    You really need to put these errors in a pop-up, or next to the guide entry that you are attempting to create a series record for, since this was down the bottom of the web page that I was trying to create the recording, but the error was way up the top of the web page.
You also really need to have another preference, that if the show appears on both SD and HD, to choose one or the other, not both.   Then I can either choose "all channels" in confidence that I am not taking up two recording slots for the same show, or choose some kind of new option "record on this channel unless not on this channel this week but on the other channel" (I have a sneaking suspicion this option won't be considered  ;))
I am a fairly clued up person, and even I struggle with the interface quirks of ICE.

example1:
Try to setup a series record for a show.   No red dot appears.  What is going on?   Ahh, I set it up for first runs, and this show is marked as a repeat.   I don't know how many times that has stung me!   You should provide a pop-up when initiating a series record that shows what timers are going to be created for the week, and if none, indicate that the current show you have attempted to initiate a series recording from is a repeat when you are asking for 1st runs.

example2:
All my timers for this week (created prior to DST changover) were all an hour too early.   Ok, so you send the timers to the PVR (in my case, Beyonwiz) in GMT.   Ouch, not many (none?) PVRs have logic to know exactly "ok, I will add 10hours to the timers this week, but I can see the transition is this Sunday, so any timers I create for after that transition time I will add 11hours to".   Can you please also add a GMT offset to your protocol, and work with the PVR teams to read this extra protocol info.   Of course you may already do this, but with no explanation of your protocol to date, I have no idea how it is meant to behave.    Your FAQ says to this problem "you need to resend your timers from this page"... so I deleted all the incorrect timers from the Beyonwiz timer interface, go to the ICE page to resend all timers, initiate the option and zip, nothing.   No timers got resent (well, maybe 3 timers out of about 30 and in about 6 days time!).   So I tried the "resend on Beyonwiz device" and "resend on all devices" about 4 or 5 times in 2 days.   Still not all timers re-appeared.   I had to see my shows were coming up in the Widget or Web (with no red dots!!), and ICE interactive knows there is series recordings setup for these shows (as I can't create a new series recording for them) so I have the option of "record" and this worked about 90% of the time.

example3:
May be related partially to example2.   It seems that if you want to make a change to a series recording, everything gets itself in a twist for that week.  It normally takes a week for it to iron out whatever the heck the quirk is.   Typically you delete a series record, then change your mind or want to make it a specific channel instead of all channels, and attempting to get ICE interactive to get that cute little red dot again on the show in nearly impossible.   If only the red dots could be as reliable as the Yellow Love hearts.  These little things are 100% reliable on my "favourites".

Something is not right, and needs more work.   Please don't try and pin all the blame on the STB manufacturer.   Sure, if you send timers in GMT, then the STB manufacturer should really think ahead about what happens during transition time, but given I haven't come across a STB that handles the DST transition seamlessly as yet (ok, I have managed to make the 5K do this by creating a TAP that uses timezone code and the TZ tables... but that is an exception), and you can read dozens of posts on dtvforums about broadcasters mucking up TOT and/or TDT tables, the chances of a STB getting the correct information for DST transition is slim at best.

I hope these points get considered, I think all of them have come up in the past in one way or another, sometimes I get a tad frustrated by the fragileness of the ICE interface and the lack of feedback about why something isn't behaving the way I expect it to, and also the lack of knowing how the whole protocol is really meant to behave for initiating and updating timers from Interactive to the PVR.

Why is the ICEtv web not giving me any series recording options for "The X-files" (on TenHD)?
I can easily set it up as a favourites, favourites works just fine, but the only option I have for recording is a single "Record"  button in the TVGuide view on the web.   When I attempt to create a recording anyway (despite me really wanting a series recording for it), nothing gets uploaded to the Wiz and no red dots show up in the widget or web for this show.   I can get the yellow hearts, but who cares about them!
I have had issues like this in the past occassionally, not quite sure how I solved them but this has now happened 2 weeks in a row for me and due to this issue I have to manually set a timer on the Beyonwiz itself (shock horror!).   Last week I wasn't at home all week either, so had to use Wiztimerd to set the timer instead.
I really don't want to resort to third party solutions for uploading my timers to the Beyonwiz if I can avoid it (as the wiztimerd method requires to reboot the box which then means it will go to standby after the next timer fires & finishes).

edit:
OK, I dug around some more....  this is already part of a series recording, but for some reason was set to first runs.   This needs to be made more clear next to the "record" button I think, as it was buried further down the page in the black box area that has part of the program description and blends into the next entries, see here (this cap is taken after I got it going, but indicates the "blending" I am referring to):

Ok, I am having this quirk again, in the past I didn't care much about it, as I was only mucking about setting a timer for a show I knew my 5K was recording fine (Red Dwarf), but for some reason the ICETV widget and Web is playing silly games for my "Scrapheap Challenge" timers all of a sudden.    Everything has been going fine for the past 3 or 4 weeks, and I noticed my Sunday ScrapHeap wasn't on the Beyonwiz HDD (was it on yesterday, I couldn't find it in the guide with a quick look?).   But there is no timers for this week either, but there are clearly eps on all week.   The widget is also not showing any red dots.    When I click the widget and choose "record series" for both first runs & repeats, a spinning status icon spins for a bit, then nothing (where as normally a red dot would show reasonably quickly).
So off to the webpage I go to try setting it there.
Looking at the entries, something is strange.   There is no red dot, there is the typical "favourite" icon (where as there is no fave icon for the widget for some reason??), and it doesn't give me series recording options for the show (it has a record option however):  see http://tonyspage.abock.de/beyonwiz/iceprobs1.PNG
If I choose the record option, it doesn't bring up any series recording options, but does immediately take me back to the guide with an open red dot.   But if I refresh the guide page (well, go to say, my shows, then back to the TV guide), the red dot is gone and there is no timers on the Beyonwiz to be found.
So why does ICE think a series recording is setup for Scrapheap, but then doesn't do anything about it?
Like I said, I have had this issue more than once in the past with other shows and it was a real pain to solve, I think I ended up having to cancel all series recording for that, cancel the favourite, WAIT (not waiting gave me some kind of other grief if I remember correctly, possibly due to the poor polling frequency allowed to the Beyonwiz to check the cancellation has updated) then setup the favourite and series recording all over again.

But if I wasn't checking, I wouldn't have noticed that ICE seems to have lost the plot here?    I could never get it to record Red Dwarf properly once ABC2 started putting it on the weekends also (and/or ICE started putting repeat tags on the Monday episode which isn't really a repeat on ABC2), and never bothered to persue too much as PerlTGD does a fine job on the 5K for this.
