[My Upcoming Shows RSS feed]

We've just added three new RSS feeds to the IceTV Interactive pages. If you're a regular RSS user, this is probably good news. If you don't currently use an RSS reader or don't know what an RSS feed is, don't sweat. You may not personally use this service, but it should open up some possibilities for enterprising developers, allowing for some interesting 3rd party uses and applications.

My Upcoming Shows RSS feed
This RSS feed contains all the shows in My Upcoming Shows, including favourites, single recordings and series recordings set via IceTV Interactive. To find the link for this feed, go to My Upcoming Shows, then click on the "My Upcoming Shows RSS" link at the top of the page. This should launch your RSS reader or view the RSS feed in your browser, if you have that capability (we recommend Firefox, Safari and Google Reader).



TV guide search RSS feed
It's also possible to search for something on the IceTV Interactive TV guide page, then view the search as an RSS feed by clicking on "Subscribe to an RSS feed for this search" (saving the RSS feed will depend on which reader you're using).

You will be notified when shows matching certain keywords you set appear in the next 7 days, allowing you to then go ahead and schedule them to record on your device at home.

For completeness, we've also included the ability to search on the My Upcoming Shows page and save that as an RSS feed too. Just search for something on your My Upcoming Shows, then click on the "Subscribe to an RSS feed for this search" link.

We have a few aces left up our sleeves for 2008, so stay tuned for more exciting features.

We're looking to improve the Remote mobile website, but want to get a feeling for the kinds of phones people are using to access it.

The current Remote mobile site is lean, clean and built for good results on a normal 3G or fairly modern phone (SonyErricson K600i, Nokie 5300 etc). It doesn't do everything we'd like it to though.

We'd really like to start building a more advanced phone site that looks nicer and has more features, but we need to know what people are using.

So... who's using Remote mobile with a Nokia N95, iPhone or other full web browser capable phones and what features would you like to see in Remote mobile that are in Remote web?

A lot of people have asked about these as some USB TV tuners don't come with one in the box...

Pigtails with MCX (For Digital TV Tuners)

We've also reinstated the Favourites tab.

We're almost done adding series recording to PIMP, which means EyeTV users will be able to automatically record every episode of their favourite shows. You'll even be able to limit it to record first runs only (ie. it won't record episodes that are repeats).

Here's a preview:


Simply click "record series" and PIMP will let EyeTV know when the next episode(s) are on. This will even work if the season finishes, then the a new season starts 6 months later.

Just in case you were wondering... We've included some Safari-only features in PIMP.

You'll notice that the text input field has rounded edges and remembers recent searches.

The new web interface is MUCH better than the old PIMP. Almost every aspect of the site has been improved. I'd write a list here, but it'd be too long. This isn't the end either... we have big plans for the PIMP interface. We'll be making some small tweaks over the coming weeks and even bigger changes after that.

Welcome to our new EyeTV and Mac media centre forum.
Please make yourself at home and feel free to ask any questions you might have. I'll be collating as much information as I can into one document soon, but until then, here's some handy tidbits for getting the most out of your Mac when using it as a media centre:


Problem: The Bluetooth mouse setup window appears every time you restart your Mac when there's no mouse plugged in.
Solution: Disable "Open Bluetooth Setup Assistant at startup when no input device is present" off in System Preferences / Bluetooth.

Problem: My Apple Remote controls more than one Mac.
Solution: "Pair" your remote with specific Mac(s). An Apple document with instructions can be found here. You can also disable the IR receiver from "Security" in System Preferences on Macs you don't want to use your Apple Remote with.

Problem: I'm having difficulty getting my Mac to display correctly on my TV.
Solution: There's several ways to fix this, depending on the situation. DisplayConfigX lets you tweak the output of your Mac's graphics card, as does SwitchResX. Another solution is to change the way you're getting the picture into the TV. Currently, it seems like some LCD and Plasma TVs have difficulty showing a picture that covers the whole screen when using the HDMI (or DVI) inputs. Although not the most elegant fix, using a VGA input seems to solve this in most cases. It's not going to look as good as DVI/HDMI, but it might provide a good interim fix until you have DisplayConfigX under control. To be honest, using VGA isn't a bad option at all.


Control your Mac with your Apple Remote.
There's quite a few small applications that let you use an Apple Remote to control various aspects of your mac, including playing files in Quicktime or VLC, changing system volume and almost anything you can normally do via the keyboard or mouse.

This is an essential add-on if you're looking to use your mac media center for anything other than the standard EyeTV features or even if you'd like to be able to restart, shut down or perform simple maintenance tasks without plugging in a keyboard or mouse.

Remote Buddy -- My favourite, and probably the most complete.
