SKIPPA / Re: Parental PIN Required
April 26, 2017, 10:59:13 AM
Hi Dave,

I think some time ago I'd blocked some channels on the Skippa, getting confused between blocking and disabling. I think I was trying to hide channels like TVSN. All was working ok for me until the rescan just before Easter though so maybe the rescan shuffled the order of some channels around?

Anyway, your instructions above fix it, all working normally now, thanks so much!

SKIPPA / Parental PIN Required
April 25, 2017, 09:11:12 AM
I'm repeatedly getting Parental PIN Required / Channel Blocked messages despite my parental controls being set to None.

It's mostly on Channel 7 channels and affects live TV and recordings, some quite old from much earlier this year.

The problem started just before Easter - either the Thursday or Good Friday when I retuned my PVRs following the Viceland HD notice. It's not affecting my Humax.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi Guys,

Are you still seeing an issue?

None of the Skippa systems were changed in the website update last night and the Skippa I have here is working fine.

I had issues this morning around 7am. It looks like my device rebooted overnight and was at the screen which says there's an issue with the internet, requesting you log in, create new user id or work in offline mode. It was unresponsive so I rebooted and still had the same issue so I left it and went to work.

It's working now.

Thanks Daniel. Hopefully if there are changes like this in future they are better communicated.

IceTV EPG Content / Re: No data 9HD And 9Life

Ok so after a rescan on both my Humax and Skippa i now can see the 9HD EPG. Even though previous posts didn't say I'd need to.

Am I the only one with "image" listed where the channel logo should be for the 2 new channels?

What do I need to do for the guide data to load on my Humax & Skippa? I can see both devices have downloaded EPG data in the last 10mins or so but 9HD (90) isn't being populated. I'm in Sydney FWIW.

Thanks John for the update.

Any idea when this will happen, and do we need to do anything on our PVRs?

It looks to me that they still have GEM mapped to channel 90 - I have this issue on both my Skippa and Humax.

SKIPPA / Re: What are your Skippa plans?

I'm definitely using mine. I'd like another, with or without HDD. Overall I'm very happy with the unit and IceTV's service.

Not sure what else to say - I was deleting recordings and it rebooted.

Upgraded from 10600 to 10604 and so far only have one issue which I think may be Skippa related and that's that this evening while recording 2 programs and watching a 3rd live, with the ad detection being processed in the background on a week or two's programs, I had stuttering a couple of times on my life program. I can't remember what time or even what program was on (I think it was 7), but that's about it.

Again last night while watching live TV I experienced the same stuttering issue. I'd liken it to watching video on a PC and all of a sudden there's a bunch of disk activity which slows or stops the video playback momentarily.

For those looking for a firmware update to fix their Skippa's issues see:

Thanks Dave - any indication of what it specifically fixes/introduces?
I'm guessing it does NOT allow Skippa to access the FTA guide  ???

I've just installed it and I am 99.99% sure that's a no with regards to accessing the FTA guide.

BTW, thanks Dave, it went on without a fuss. I'm hoping this will fix the issues with AutoSkip being stuck on the same recording since the 11th.

I started using IceTV when there were legal issues around the provision of EPG data in the mid to late 2000s. I had been using an XMLTV grabber for my Sage HTTV setup and Channel 9 managed to use legal threats to stop my (free) service provider so I moved to IceTV purely for the data. It was much more reliable (as you'd hope, as a fee-paying service) and added additional features such as the weekly emails etc. The widgets, web guide etc were next to no use to me as Sage wouldn't talk to IceTV as such. I was happy to pay a subscription for many many years, until 2012 when I bought a Humax PVR with lifetime TV guide.

I still have the Humax and now a Skippa, and I'm more than happy to pay a subscription because I'm able to reliably set series recordings, now days use the web guide and iPhone app for recordings and it gives me a consistent interface across different brands of PVRs.

The ease of use, especially with the female members of the household, make it worth it.

I hear the arguments that in this day and age no-one is watching FTA TV, Internet TV is the future et al. I get that - i have both Netflix and Stan accounts, watch between 5-10hrs a week content across both services, but most of my viewing is recorded current Australian content (I'll reluctantly admit that The Biggest Loser is one such show). TBL excepted, there's still a lot of quality content on FTA. Oh and right now, I'm playing back last night's recording of Rage.

There are two parts to the IceTV Service, the first is the guide and the second is the remote setting of timers (which is far more powerful than the native abilities of most, if not all, PVRs. For me the combination of both of these is well worth the proposed price.

If you think the price is too much, you do not have to pay it.

Ian
I agree; there are a lot of services provided beyond the provision of the EPG that for me is worth $8/m.
