I wouldn't have though autoskip would even process this but I can't explain what is happening in the ad breaks on this media. If you watch it on a PC there is no way to skip the ads in the stream and they run from beginning to end.

It looks almost like autoskip is trying to process the stream... I'll try disabling autoskip and see if the problem goes away.

Cheers

Rob

Hey Rob,

SKIPPA doesn't process AutoSkip on HbbTV, you can disable the playback of AutoSkip when watching a recorded show, but not the actual processing - AutoSkip will automatically process all shows that are recorded, in priority order of Genre, starting with News.

Leon

Hi Guys,

We are aware that the coming soon feature isn't working as expected on the SKIPPA, we are working on resolving this and should have a fix shortly. It is working correctly for all other supported devices.

What about turning the unit off and only having it on during the times it need to be on to record.

Yes you could certainly do that in a pinch, although we recommend having it online at all times to have the guide updated throughout the day - but if you know that you will only be recording shows at night after 6pm for instance then it would be perfectly acceptable to then only plug it in at 5pm in time for it to make any updates.

Are there any options to do updates less often to reduce the data required

There is not..

How much data does the skippa use. I will be using it on mobile broadband. Need to know how much data it requires to keep up to date.

SKIPPA uses approximately 500MB - 2GB per month under normal operating conditions - that is updating the EPG and downloading / uploading timer information. SKIPPA fetches these updates every 10 minutes.

It you use catch-up services you will incur a higher data usage - which is dependant on how much you watch. For example, full quality HD Catch Up programs will use approximately 1.6 GB per hour, whilst SD Catch Up programs will use approximately 585 MB per hour.

Do failed recordings reschedule themselves?

Failed recordings don't reschedule themselves, but you will receive an email notice to this effect so that you are aware of the fail and can then schedule again to make sure there are no conflicts (timer conflicts are largely the most common cause of failed recordings).

P.S Thanks for your feedback everyone!

Do you have the WIFI antenna connected securely?

Leon - just interested if you need to have the WiFi antenna attached if you are using wired Ethernet? I haven't bothered adding the antenna to mine as its hardwired to the LAN

Hey bodogbodog,

Nope only if using the built in WIFI, if you're using a LAN cable, you're pretty much good to go right off the bat.

Hi Carmal8,

Sorry to hear you're having a problem with your new SKIPPA!

Do you have the WIFI antenna connected securely? Could you please try power cycling once more for 20 seconds and then booting up and trying to connect to the WIFI again. If it doesn't connect, could you let us know the message it displays - and also reply to the message Dave sent you from the support system so that we can further investigate the possibility of a hardware fault.

Cheers,
Leon

SKIPPA / Re: Skippa IR Remote

Hi Guys,

You may need to update the database on the remote itself first, as the SKIPPA is listed under IceTV SKIPPA in the Harmony database.

General Discussions / Re: IceTv expiry email
September 28, 2015, 12:37:15 PM
Hey Starion,

The Beyonwiz Tx series comes with a 3-month trial for non subscribers to check out and try the features of IceTV,

The expiry notice you received is from the lapsing of that individual subscription trial. Your Regular subscription is still current until 2019-06-28, and you can ignore the email that you received.

We offer a combination of the following subscription types:

- Regular (Multi device) subscriptions that support up to 10 devices, and cost currently $99 per year, or $249 for 5 years. (which you have)

- Single device subscriptions that support only 1 device and are linked to that device. The single device subscription for the Beyonwiz Tx is currently $69 per year or $199 for 5 years (or life of the Device) There is no single device subscription for the Topfields.

You can take a look at these subscriptions and our complete set on this page here:

I had a read of the online manual as at 25 Sep 2015 and am concerned by this statement on page 62:
QuoteHacking of the conditional access system or facilitating anyone else doing so is STRICTLY PROHIBITED. Failure to adhere to this prohibition is a criminal offence.

Does that mean that the Skippa encrypts recordings or somehow applies DRM to the content? Skippa clearly doesn't have any slots for CI / CAM or other conventional hardware module based CA, so what is this referring to? What kind of conditional access system does the Skippa use and why? We are talking about free to air TV here, so the content being received is not encumbered with any conditional access.

Hey guys,

This statement in the manual refers specifically to the IceTV login and related subscription detection on SKIPPA (account and AutoSkip), and prohibits hacking / decompiling of the firmware in any way - particularly in terms of this subscription detection mentioned above.
