There are a few cards that support turning your PC on from a full off position. This function is generally only supported by the software that comes with the card and not Windows Media Centre. MythTV does support setting wakeup alarms that will wake a PC from power off, but that's dependant on hardware support and doesn't work for everyone.

Mpeg-2/4 encoding plays no part in the playback of the digital signal (only analogue).

You can set your PC to either use Standby, or Hibernate (S3 or S4) and Mediacentre will wake itself for a recording. This function does not depend on the type of tuner card you have.

The guide update is still working, even with the error (and failed EPG message).

I confirmed by checking when the data ran out (wednesday), then updating the guide. I know have data for wednesday with the data running out next thursday.

It's most likely because they're already in the database and they haven't been updated by media centre. They should flush out in a couple of days.

Go into your Account page and make sure that Remove MOVIE: prefix from movie titles in the Windows 7 guide is checked.

This will remove the "Movie:" in the name and allow Mediacentre to download the movie information from AMG (i.e Cover, Review etc) but as the IsMovie flag is still set the movie will still appear in the Movie Library.

In the Interactive client there is a drop box where you can select "Guide Only" or another option. Make sure the setting isn't on Guide Only.

I had a closer look at the EPG data that's provided by WIN on their SD channel and at the bottom of the page it says the data is provided by AMG. Also, the data that acompanies most movies also contains a review of the movie and what looks like a DVD cover that belongs to the movie. Given WIN's relationship with NINE, and NINE's relationship with Microsoft, could it be possible that there is something in the Media Centre's programming that blocks the ICE-TV EPG data to allow the usage of this data from AMG, or am I seeing a conspiracy where there is none?

Mediacentre gets this data from AMG on it's own. It has nothing to do with IceTV or the relationship between Nine and MS. Basically, if the Title of the movie and the Year matches info at AMG 7MC will download and display it for you. If you're getting AMG data then it's 99.99999% certain that what you're seeing is IceTV data supplemented by data from AMG, as Nine/Win rarely provide the movie title in the correct field. Sometimes the include the title in the synopsis (quite often they don't and you need to infer what it's called from the basic info provided) and they use an idiotic title like "Thursday Night at the Movies" and I don't think I've ever seen them include a year.

Would it be possible to allow for a third party MCPL application to make a call to the IceTV interactive application requesting a guide update? I used to have a MCPL application that would run the scheduled task to update the guide, but as the task has now been removed it would a good option.

Did you ever fix this? First thing I'd check is that you have all the relevant channels checked in your IceTV Account page.

dinks, you have to remember that Windows7 guide doesn't work like Vista (or MCE2005) so the internal download of the guide will always fail. After re-doing the channel setup you will need to do a new guide import using the IceTV Interactive application.

Only then will you have the ability to match channels with the Ice-TV guide information in the edit listings page.

W7 has improved its soft and hard padding functionality over Vista - both in scope of things like whenever possible and always, and the time increments have increased dramatically.

I tend to agree with Impact on this point - leave the padding to Windows7. It's significantly improved over Vista, both with the type of padding and the length of time you can specify.

Of course, options are good, so if you do include padding later on can you also leave the option to use 7MC's default padding.

Go into Task Scheduler - Microsoft - Mediacentre and run the MediaCentreRecoveryTask.

This will erase the channel lineups and guide data that is stored. Re-run the TV setup, scan for channels, then do the guide import again using IceTV interactive.
