General Discussions / Re: IceTV Resurrected

(snip)

The fact is there is a very limited pool of people capable of managing this service - and even less who would have been able to maintain the service without a break. You either want the service or you don't - you don't get to choose who runs it unless you cough the money the buy and run the business yourself.
I understand that customers are annoyed - I lost more than 5 years of subscriptions myself. But we need to get over it - what has happened has happened. The proper process was enacted and independent auditors/administrators have found a way ahead that keeps the service running and staff employed.

I see people expressing concern for the IceTV employees and, in the same post, stating they won't be subscribing to the service they obviously value because they aren't happy with how the situation has been (successfully) resolved. If the new IceTV isn't profitable, those very employees will lose their jobs. A bit hypocritical IMO.

My view exactly. What's done is done, mistakes were made, lessons hopefully learned, let's all move on. Personally I'm glad to see the epg service continuing, I wasn't looking forward to messing around organising a new one.

Humax / 7500T has a rest again
September 26, 2015, 05:44:45 PM
Seems a bit quiet here lately - have users given up on their Humax? Or are they all working well?

I just had a repetition of a weird problem. There was a power outage and the Humax didn't come back on. Wouldn't restart, or boot up at all. The unit was still warm, so power supply was working, but no sign of any other life, no response to any buttons.

I had the same thing happen before, so I dragged out my old Toppy and fired it up. After 24 hours I tried the Humax again, and Lo!! It came up as normal and everything is OK, just like it was saying "is there a problem??"

Very strange! Has anyone else had that trouble? Or is it one of those problems which seem to be exclusive to me?

Cheers

Humax / Re: Humax 4tune (HMS-1000T)

"One unconfirmed "feature" that I have heard about is that the 4tune cannot record more than 1 channel per tuner. So no recording ABC1 and ABC2 from 1 tuner, while recording 7, 9 and 10 from the other 3 tuners."

Are you seriously suggesting that ABC, 7, 9 and 10 would EVER all have shows worth recording AT THE SAME TIME???

I would reply " In your dreams"

Humax / Re: Few issues coming out of standby

Sadly, it's good to hear someone else has the same issue..  :-\

Yes, it's not much consolation unfortunately. When they work, they are excellent. The Humax is still basically a good concept.

IMHO the software was better about four updates ago.  It's a bit like motor cars - the older models are more trouble free, before they started stuffing around and "improving" them.

I have the same random lack of display problem - seems to be related to the last update. Coming out of standby is different to what it used to be - sometimes the splash screen appears, sometimes not. Sometimes there's a display, sometimes not. It all seems to be random. Every time there's an update, instead of improving the overall operation, they seem to introduce more problems.

After a variety of more serious issues, I'm ignoring the minor ones. I am just happy this thing keeps recording and playing back. (Touch wood!)

I couldn't recommend this unit ... acceptable hardware, crap software.

Humax / Re: Humax 7510T Where to buy?

As far as I can see, the 7500 does all that too.

Yes, it started at 1930 - we found it by accident. For some reason they swapped Cliffy and David Suchet at the very last minute.

I thought ABC was better than that.

It's on iview anyway.

Humax / Re: Start record in during broadcast

Thanks for that trick Dave - it's an interesting one, I'll have to try it. I suppose it's in some obscure place in the manual - I'll have to read it more carefully.

I agree, it's a pain in the bum, but it's the only way according to the manual. My old clunky Toppy could manage to handle that function OK.

It's all in the firmware - unfortunately no PVR has got it 100% right yet. You'd think by this time someone could manage to write some decent code which did what users wanted, without freezing or locking up.

Maybe they should make it open source so some expert could do it properly? Or maybe the new IceTV PVR with get it right?

Cheers

Humax / Re: Many problems with my Humax
January 13, 2014, 07:41:24 AM
One suggestion - if you have your wi-fi dongle plugged into the rear USB port, try using the one on the front instead. If that fails you may have to use a direct ethernet connection. The TV portal will not work unless you have a good connection.

I have no suggestion for the recording failures. If you can't get any results, get onto Humax support asap.

Good luck!

General Discussions / Humax support
January 11, 2014, 05:15:49 PM
Anyone know if Humax support are on deck yet? My 7500 failed (this is the second one to fail in just over 12 months - not too promising) and IceTV support are still waiting for a response re warranty issues.

My old Toppy lasted a lot longer, I have dragged it out of retirement and it's still working (sort of).

I have been quite disappointed with Humax - they seem to be unreliable and buggy.

Do Beyonwiz units have similar problems? (Just in case I decide to dump the Humax)

Thanks

I use the rewind feature to return to the start of the show then press record. Usually works.

Latest Facebook post from ABC iView:

Thanks for your posts. We believe that the issue with iview on Sony Bravia connected televisions has now been resolved and the app is once again working as expected. We recommend that you please restart the device and try the app again.
However, we are still currently working on a resolution for other consoles and connected TVs and will keep you updated as to our progress. We do apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.
Cheers - The iview team. Thanks.

ABC posted on Facebook that they were have "problems with iView on certain devices" and were working on it.

Dunno how long that will take with creaky old Aunty though.

I agree with the above. I am a long way from a high end user - I mainly watch some catch up on iView and SBS, and occasionally on Youtube.

I can't understand why some youtube videos can't be played. Recently I wanted to catch up on two episodes of Heartbeat as the Humax failed to record (my fault!). S6 ep 12 played fine, S6 ep 13 couldn't be played. Both from exactly the same youtube source - Heartbeatchannel.  Of course there's no problem on the laptop.

Why? Would Heartbeatchannel upload two consecutive files in a different format? Why can't the Humax play these formats anyway? Is it a copyright/patent issue? Surely it's just a matter of including the decoder in the software, or is that too simple.

Could someone please enlighten me? Thanks.
