Title: ICETV EPG crashing Topfield 2400 again.
Post by: JPP on April 11, 2016, 07:10:56 PM
It's the first time I've experienced this, but here in Sydney, the current EPG data is causing my Toppy 2400 to continuously reboot.

It's happening on both my 2400 Toppies, so I don't think there's much doubt that it's a gremlin in the EPG data stream that has plagued us a while ago.

Phil

In Melbourn I am not seeing this with any of my 2400s.

Have you tried decreasing the number of LCNs being sent to your 2400 (assuming that you usually have data for all LCNs)?

Thanks for the heads up Ian.

I've been AWOL for quite a while and only vaguely remember the discussions about this issue. Are you suggesting that an excessive amount of EPG data can also cause the same problem? This would imply that this condition or the trigger for it is "time" dependant, i.e. some days there could just be enough or too much data that will bring this condition on, whilst on other days all is OK.

I have all Sydney channels enabled, but only ONE LCN for each service.

Bear in mind that this just happened tonight - nothing anywhere was changed. Until now, I've never had the problem.

Yes, the Toppy can be overwhelmed by the data that is downloaded. I understand the matter has been referred to the Topfield engineers in Korea. There is a discussion of this issue in the thread below:

http://forum.icetv.com.au/iceforum/topfield/9/trf-2400-plus-tf7100hdpvrt-reboot-when-logging-in-to-icetv-melbourne/5051/

It is strange that with duplicate LCNs disabled you are having this happen.

I assume that you have ruled out DLNA probing by another devices is not the culprit - Power DVD is one of the offenders. There is a discussion of the issue on the oztoppy wiki:
http://oztoppy.wikidot.com/pvr-restarts

Hope this helps you work out the exact problem.

I am having the same problem, in Sydney also.

I assumed the HD had fried, pulled the thing apart and replaced the drive, only for it to continue to happen.  Only then was I smart enough  ;D to disable IceTV & then come here.

Disabled 3 channels I never record / watch and that seems to have done the trick... Fingers crossed.

All good here in Sydney now. My guess is that the recalcitrant character has been removed or simply replaced by fresh EPG data that no longer contained the same character. Or, reduced the amount of data.

I've deleted all unnecessary channels and it's still happening tonight.  I'm in Sydney.
It stops rebooting as soon as I disable IceTV but as soon as I enable it, the rebooting starts again.
I'd appreciate some comment from IceTv.

Obviously something specific to Sydney causing this; none of my IceTV enabled devices are rebooting.

Yes, and it happened to me again too last night. Like you, I deleted many channels and it still happened.

Daniel or Dave, are you hearing this? It has all the hallmarks of rogue characters in the EPG stream.

We have worked out that it is the data in ABC One's guide that is causing the problem. We are looking for the culprit character now.

Thanks Dave. Glad that you've found the cause. How are things coming along with an automated system for locating and removal of these rogue characters - I think I remember you mentioning sometime ago that work would be undertaken to do this.

Is it resolved yet?

It seems to be... my Toppy has now been running for about 10 min and still OK. Normally, if it's going to reboot, it takes about a min or less or as it can take as long as 2 min after a complete bootup sequence.

It looks fixed on my Topfield.

We did find and remove a certain character from the ABC guide. After enabling ABC in my account and resetting the EPG on the Topfield it rebooted twice then settled down. That was 40 minutes ago.

After you enable ABC in your account, or enable IceTV on the Topfield if it is disabled, you should 'Reset EPG Data' with the Red F1 (function) button while in the Topfield's IceTV menu. It may reboot once or twice but should be okay after that.

Im in Adelaide and i started getting the same problem. I even changed my HHD to see i still have the rebooing problem. Again this was only when i was trying to log in to icetv and it was going for a number of days now. I now have to have icetv  off so i can use my 2460.

Hi Darryl, I made a change in your account 30 minutes ago but it looks like your Topfield still has IceTV disabled. Can you check your email then re-enable icetv.

I'm having this issue on a 2460 in Melbourne.

Seemed to start sometime today (13/4/16)

Disappointing that a dodgy character is enough to cause this :(

I still have not seen it in Melbourne. My Toppys are on 24/7 and it may be instigated by first fetch after powering up,

This is a regular occurrence for the BNE guide. Our Toppy has similar issues though it hasn't happened for 4 or 5 days. The only way our Toppy is useable when this happens is to quickly disable IceTV in it and then reboot it again. It is super frustrating.

Have you applied the fix of disabling duplicate services?

See the discussion in this thread: http://forum.icetv.com.au/iceforum/topfield/9/topfield-2460-crashing-every-73-seconds-until-i-turned-icetv-off/5122/

Hi Ian-L, all,

I tried the EPG reset just now (After learning it happened this morning to my wife) and no dice. 73 seconds after boot it crashed/reloaded.

In fact after we turned off IceTV it then would crash inside 10-15 seconds repeatedly for 5 or 6 times.

No duplicate LCNs exist according to the menu crashed.

This is such a pain in the arse.

Additionally, after many crashes, we're seeing this error pop up briefly on the screen:

L32020

That's just the Loader version or System ID. Any time the Topfield is fully off you'll see the loader version displayed as it turns on. If you want to see it just turn the Topfield off at it's rear switch for 20 seconds, then as it comes on you'll see the Loader version followed by the LOADING message.

L32020 is a 2400 as is System ID 32020
L32026 is a 2460 as is System ID 32026
L32030 is a 7100HDplus as is System ID 32030
L32031 is also a 7100HDplus as is System ID 32031

Your IceTV log every was normal up to 7:47am then nothing at all until 9:11am when things went haywire. Only 2 of the 12 irregularly spaced fetch intervals were close to you estimated 73 seconds.

11 minutes 39 seconds
5 seconds
9 minutes 7 seconds

If IceTV was disabled and it still rebooted more than once then there is something else going on. Certain DLNA media server applications (on computers, NAS servers, Routers, smart TVs, phones and tablets etc) can cause PVRs to reboot, and a conflicting IP address can too. Also a Topfield with faulty hardware or corrupt firmware can end up rebooting.

Hi Dave,

I appreciate the follow up. Certainly in the past when we've disabled the IceTV service the crashing problem has stopped. I'm about to have a look at it again now to see if it's still doing it or whatever. I may also try a firmware upgrade as we're running the 2014 firmware and I note there is 2016 firmware available.

Don't know if this has already been suggested, but do you have PowerDVD or other Cyberlink software running on a computer on your network?

Hi Paul55 - nope.

I upgraded the firmware and *for now* it seems to be ok. For now.

Looks like I've been having the same issue recently as well.
I was starting to think it was an hdd issue as well.
My 2400 works with no problems with icetv disabled
Also ensured we have no duplicate channels
Have no dnla devices running on the network?

Any suggestions?

Chris.
