Title: WINHD and 9Life
Post by: vader1111 on February 26, 2016, 01:41:48 PM
WIN have confirmed that they will be launching WINHD and 9Life on Tuesday 1st March.

Any chance we could now have these added to our list of channel options (LCNs etc) in the IceTV guide?

Unfortunately as they are taking over currently broadcasting channels we cannot enable these until they start.

Daniel is correct. The same issue arose when the corresponding changes were made to the Capital city Nine Network transmissions. For example the LCN previously used by GEM became the one used by 9HD, and I thing eXtra moved to the LCN previously use by eXtra 2. It was very messy.

Unfortunately there is no way of avoiding this problem; you will need to do a new service scan to pick up the changes, and then resend the EPG data.

If you have a Topfield with recent firmware, you are best off deleting all services and then doing a new service scan (the new duplicate service identification module does not always work; you end up with the wrong LCNs for many services.

It's not entirely clear to me exactly what the WinHD/9Life changes will be doing, but it doesn't look like they'll be swapping services on the same LCN and creating the same mess that they did with Nine HD and GEM.

Pre WIN-HD, the WIN channels in Canberra were:
8 Win Canberra
80 GEM Canberra
82 Extra
84 Gold
88 GO!

They now (just re-scanned) have:
8 Win Canberra
80 GEM Canberra
81 WIN Canberra
82 Extra
83 GO!
84 Gold
85 Coming Soon
86 Coming Soon
88 GO!

It's still not clear which service will go to which Coming Soon LCN, though.

If it is anything like Melbourne, GEM Canberra LCN will be taken over by the new MPEG4 HD service, and GEM will revert to standard definition. Looks like GEM Ccanberra will be on either LCN 85 or 86, and presumably the new SD service on the other one. In Melbourne it was a bit more obvious as we had a second Gem LCN for about 6 weeks before the changeover. The really confusing thing was that the new SD sevice appropriated the LCN of eXtra, and eXtra took the LCN of the discontinued eXtra2.

Now, I am sure this makes a lot of sense to everyone.

I see now that WIN has announced WIN HD on LCN 80, and 9Life on LCN 84. Who knows what other swaps. As you suggested, it's going to be the same sort of mess as the Nine HD transition.

Added: I should have clicked on the announcement.

Post-transition it will be:
WINHD – Channel 80
WIN – Channels 8 & 81
9GEM – Channel 82
9GO! – Channels 83 & 88
9LIFE – Channel 84
EXTRA – Channel 85
GOLD – Channel 86

As I posted earlier, pre-transition is:
8 Win Canberra
80 GEM Canberra
82 Extra
84 Gold
88 GO!

In EyeTV, I retuned for Ch 9/WIN and am still missing the guide(s) for GEM, LIFE, Extra, GOLD.

And in the IceTV page : https://www.icetv.com.au/cgi-bin/webmembers.cgi?op=showIceguide where I can "map" channels to LCN numbers, they are incorrect for some of the WIN channels:

IceTV Channel Name & LCNs are wrong:
GEM is 82, not 80
LIFE is 84, not 94
Extra is 85, not listed on IceTV's "My Account/Channels: Select the correct LCN for each channel"
GOLD is 86, not listed on IceTV's "My Account/Channels: Select the correct LCN for each channel"

IceTV folks, you need to get cracking and get this sorted out. (And yes, I've send an email to tech support)

Follow the instructions here (http://forum.icetv.com.au/iceforum/general-discussions/1/information-needed-for-new-channels-7flix-ten-hd-and-more/5014/). You'll need to be a bit more explicit about your location than "regional Victoria". Nearest major centre, for example.

You might want to follow the instructions in Information needed for new channels (7flix, TEN HD and more) (http://forum.icetv.com.au/iceforum/general-discussions/1/information-needed-for-new-channels-7flix-ten-hd-and-more/5014/).

If you want to have channel picons (channel logos) for the channels in Ballarat, you might like to follow the instructions in "T2 / T3 / T4 FAQs, Tips & How to Guides > Request for updates for channel picons" on the Beyonwiz forum at:
http://www.beyonwiz.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=9355

You'll need to copy/paste the URL into your browser, because the IceTV forum software mangles URLs with ampersands in them.

If you create the picon setup as requested on the Beyonwiz forum, I can also provide the information IceTV needs to set up Ballarat IceTV.

Using a Topfield.  If the Guide doesn't show the programs and it doesn't show them under Win TV on the Time/Channel in the TV Guide on IceTV website I do not see how you can tape shows.  Surely IceTV need to propagate the shows on their end first.

As I can now stream catchup on my TVs for ABC, SBS, 7Two and Ten it starts to defeat the purpose of IceTV.  As I can't stream the Win programs I was going to continue but maybe its time to go.

I guess it depends on how much you enjoy unavoidable adverts on commercial catchup, sometimes poor picture quality and deletion after two weeks?

Ice TV needs to know the LCN for each service in a region. Unfortunately they are not uniform and with the Regional Nine network affiliates there is a lack of consistency in the content of particular LCN. However, it is easier for older PVRs than newer one like the SKIPPA and Beyonwiz T series where the information required is much more complex.

Strangely the regulatory authority no longer publishes this information. So, IceTV needs the help of users in getting the necessary information.

Well, if IceTv folks asked, I'm sure they'd be deluged with data...

I've got an EyeTV setup, and a Topfield so I could give two datasets, and it's not as if IceTV doesn't know where it's existing users are based, based on our billing addresses.

Not sure what data EyeTV needs.

However, it is possible the problem you are having with the Toppy is with the Topfield. Try resetting the service list (Menu, Installation, System Recovery, Reset Service List); then do a service scan. The Toppy can assign incorrect LCN to some services if you do not delete them first - this is caused by a bug in the duplicate service deletion module of the firmware.

Did the regulatory authority (ACMA) ever publish the triples data needed by the Beyonwiz/SKIPPA IceTV configuration?

FreeTV is the only source I know of for that data, and they haven't published an update since October 2013. FreeTV is, in its own words, "... the industry body representing Australia's commercial free-to-air television broadcasters."

Have cancelled my account.  Prl is right about the ads but I don't believe stations should be ignored revenue.  Both Supernatural and the Blacklist did not record the last two episodes from last year.  By the time you realise IceTV has failed it is too late to use catchup so I end up waiting 12 months until it hits a streaming service.  For an extra $2 on my IceTV subscription I can get an extra streaming service.  All IceTV offers is a recording service.  If it does not record or cannot show programs in my account it looses its value.  As they no longer reply to Facebook or add regularly to these concerns on the forums and have reduced phone support they don't deserve support.  Besides they already have 3 years membership written off last year.  IceTV Mark 2 needed to be better but I find it worse.

This is correct, we do need to propagate the guide data across to the new channels, this was done for Ballarat on the 2nd of Feb, so as long as you have re-scanned you should be seeing the new information.
