Title: Win10 Media Center
Post by: linmar on December 13, 2015, 07:43:40 PM
I realise that this is not a supported version but I have patched Media Center on to a Win10 install and managed to get it up and running - except that I can not get the IceTV data to show as an option for the channel under the 'edit listings' list of data.

I've been using MCE for nearly 10 years and was an early adopter of IceTV and have built and upgraded quite a number of machines over the years so I've been through the process quite a few times - but I can't figure out what might be the issue.  At the moment I have the broadcast data displaying and working with no issues and the "IceTV Interactive" app is installed and connecting fine but doesn't seem to be pulling the data.

It has been a while since I did a fresh install so it could be a basic error I'm doing even though I've read through the support docs on the website.

Log is below and the device is 'laptop'.  The other two machines are not operating at the moment.

Hoping to revive this thread.

I have also just download the "unofficial" binaries for MediaCenter for Win10. As the previous posted noted, all technically works fine with Win10 and MediaCenter, installation was a breeze. I can watch TV, I get FTV guide data, I can record TV etc. I just cant get  ICETV to provide guide details.

Here is my startup log, mine though is showing an initialisation error

I have 3.0.0.37 and 3.0.0.38 versions with the same results and errors.

Hoping we might get someone to "unofficially" look into this.

I have 3.0.0.37 and 3.0.0.38 versions with the same results and errors.

Did you try running the Win8.1 version 3.0.0.38 installer as admin? And install it for all users.

Did you try running the Win8.1 version 3.0.0.38 app as admin?

Did you try running IceTV Interactive in compatibility mode? Either Windows 8.1 or Windows 7 compatibility mode.

Hi Dave,

Didn't think of that. Will try it and get back to you.

No Joy,

The app is installed to run as Win7 compatibility mode by default. Installing with Admin rights or running with admin rights didn't change the outcome. Same error as above.

Hi Trev,

IceTV Interactive may not have permission to access or write to it's data folders in C:\ProgramData\IceTV\Interactive\

Usually after uninstalling and reinstalling IceTV Interactive in Windows 7 a security message pops up asking if you want to allow IceTV Interactive to access C:\ProgramData\IceTV\Interactive\ and answering yes allows IceTV Interactive to work. Sometimes this popup message gets hidden behind the main IceTV Interactive Window.

Another possibility is that Windows' firewall is blocking IceTV Interactive from accessing the Internet. Sometimes disabling a firewall still leaves the particular application being blocked. The solution is to add a rule to allow IceTV Interactive to access the Internet.

These are the interesting lines, it has to do with the versions of the libraries that are linked against, it is trying to loaded the Windows 7 libraries but as this is a patched version (and the IceTV Interactive app doesn't know about Windows 10 either) it is not loading the correct libraries.

I am not sure at this stage if it can be made to work, but it would require a new build to support it, while I can't promise anything at the moment we will discuss internally and see what can happen.

Thanks Daniel for your initial investigation. If it can be made to work in the future it would be great.

Are you guys using 32-Bit Windows 10 or 64-Bit ?

I have been having a look into this one, but I can only seem to find a 64-bit version of mcstoredb (even with v12 and the x86 version of Media Center for Windows 10), however I need a 32-bit version to get this compiled for any CPU.

Ok, a new build of IceTV Interactive for Windows 10 Media Center is available at:

IceTVInteractive_Win10.exe (http://www.icetv.com.au/cgi-bin/downloads.cgi?op=get_file&number=26)

This has been tested against the Win10 Media Center install v12 for Windows 10.

As a heads up as well for anyone interested in installing Media Center on Windows 10, the details can be found at:

Thank you!

Now can you start a Windows 10 forum instead of putting this in Windows 8? *spit* :)

Sorry stimpy,

I had a customer email about the same issue at the same time as you posted your forum message and I mistakenly thought you were the same person I was dealing with via email so I didn't answer your forum post. But when I saw your log with different devices listed I realised I have not been emailing you.

Which Media Center pack download did you use?

There are 2 different Windows 10 Media Center Pack downloads available online. You need the newer v12 download. The version number is at the end of the file name (not the start of the numbers). IceTV Interactive only works with the v12

WMC_6.3.9600.16384_x64_v12  is the 64bit version 12.0 from February 2016 and works with IceTV on 64bit versions of Windows 10 and 8.1.
WMC_6.3.9600.16384_x86_v12  is the 32bit version 12.0 from February 2016 and works with IceTV on Windows 10 and 8.1.
WindowsMediaCenter_10.0.10134.0v2.1  is version 2.1 from September 2015 and doesn't work with IceTV.

The other numbers in the names refer to which version of Windows the Media Center files originally came from and are not important.

See the following page for more information:
http://support.icetv.com.au/entries/98996568-How-to-install-Media-Center-in-Windows-10

The next question is which Windows 10 edition, version and OS build are you using?

And is it 64bit or 32bit?

See the following page on how to find the Windows 10 edition, version, OS build and system type your computer is running:
http://www.howtogeek.com/236195/how-to-find-out-which-build-and-version-of-windows-10-you-have/

Hey guys, I'm stumped.
I decided to bit the bullet and upgrade, seeing Microsoft are saying that the free upgrade ends at the end of this month.
I struggled with the MCE install, but got it to work after running the _Uninstall program a couple of time.
I'm now getting the following error when I try to start Media Center.

Application: ehshell.exe Framework Version: v4.0.30319 Description: The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception. Exception Info: System.AccessViolationException at Microsoft.MediaCenter.Interop.Win32Api.SetCurrentProcessExplicitAppUserModelID(System.String) at ServiceBus.UIFramework.UserControlPoint.Launch(System.String)

This is all before I even get to the IceTVInteractive install point.

Any suggestions out there?

Thanks.

Dave.
