Title: Thanks and farewell... and welcome back!
Post by: Dave at IceTV on October 13, 2015, 06:51:12 PM
UPDATE: See IceTV Resurrected (http://forum.icetv.com.au/iceforum/general-discussions/1/icetv-resurrected/4654/)

IceTV as a TV guide and smart recording service almost survived. But a number of vital employees declined to take up the offer of working for the new version of IceTV so it's all over. Everything needed to produce and supply a hand curated TV guide with smart scheduling still exists, except the necessary staff.

Colin O'Brien and his family want to thank everyone for their support over the last 10.5 years. Without the many loyal customers IceTV wouldn't have lasted as long as it did or been as popular as it was.

I personally want to thank all those who have been supportive of me and offering kind words over the last week.

cheers
Dave

Dave,
I would like to say thanks for your support over the years.
The product was/is excellent.
It will be sorely missed.

Thanks Dave.

While I was unwilling to support the proposed idea, I do appreciate everything that the service and staff have done for me over a number of years. I've bought a brilliant device that continues to work for me, and will continue to work for me even after all is said and done. I'm upset on behalf of those who bought a Skippa, as it seems not only are they out of pocket, but also have a device (if they were lucky enough to receive it) that will not even be able to be used without the guide. Hopefully there is a way to overcome this.

Good luck for the future, it's really unfortunate that it was not able to succeed.

Sorry to hear this, it's not good for you guys who work/ed at IceTv, my best wishes to all of you in the future.

How, much longer will the epg keep running?  Not much longer I'd assume.  :(

All I can do is agree.  I  feel very sorry for both the staff and us, users.  I also want to thank you personally for all your help over the years.  As angry as I got at IceTV recently, I always knew that it wasn't the staff's fault and sympathised with the conditions they had to work under

Sorry to hear this - for the sake of yourself and the rest of the team. Life will continue without IceTV, it just won't be as good!

I imagine that the Administrators kept it running so it could be sold as a going concern. With the prospect of a buyer now looking remote, I don't think the Administrators have any reason to keep it going. I'd be very surprised if anything was running much after the Friday creditor's meeting.

A very sad day.

First for those at IceTV who are now out of a job, then for those of us who used the service.

I have been revisiting the FTA guide in Media Center and it really does show how good a job the guys at IceTV did. Their show names were consistent and reliable so the series recordings rarely missed - can't say that about the naming lack-of-convention in the FTA guide. It's almost like they want to break series recordings.

My best to all those at IceTV. Thanks for such a great service this past decade.

I also want to add a note of thanks to the staff at IceTV. These must have been very difficult times for all of you, I guess the only positive is that now there's a degree of certainty moving into the future.

I'm a long time supporter of IceTV and really enjoyed the smart scheduling service (and the witty program descriptions of eye-rolling shows like ACA and Today Tonight!)  I will definitely miss it.

All the best for the staff and their families.

Andrew.

Being a member since 2009 I've found the service impeccable.  Not sure what to do now. :(
A daily check of recordings and scheduling of recordings available from all over the world.
Especially liked the new/repeat indication.

Feel for all you guys and wish you all the best for the future ... It sure sucks!!!!

wow, just looked for my signup email, January 2008.

Australian EPG data will be in a sad state now. IceTV is the reason Australian networks broadcast over the air the data they do.

Hopefully someone will rise out of the ashes to keep the buggers honest.

It is sad to see the service go and sorry you are losing your jobs as well.

Dave has been a great help and support over the years, so good luck to you.

Cheers

Just wanted to add my thanks to Dave and the team as well. The team at IceTV were always very helpful and I've been a very happy customer for the past 6+ years and am very disappointed that there will be no IceTv in the future.

Best of luck to all in your new endeavours.

Cheers
Graham

Dave, I've always maintained that your blood was worth bottling!  So sorry to hear this news, I will miss our little chats when I was after service.  Hope you find work you are happy to do and best wishes to you and the staff.  I really hope you guys get picked up by an investor or just a like minded billionaire.  ;)  Ok so now how do I get the three years in advance I've paid..?  Sorry, couldn't help it.  Catchya  :)

Sad news Dave. Best of luck to you and the rest of the staff for a wonderful 9 years of service for me.

On your above comment, does this mean if all the infrastructure is in place, but nobody wants to run it, is it possible to move to a volunteer run based system? (Obviously we need to pay the bills to keep the CPUs/HDD/NICs running...)

My introduction to IceTV has been brief, with the purchase of the Skippa, which now looks like being an expensive paperweight  :'(

Thanks to David and the other IceTV employees who have done their best to keep things going, all the best for the future  ;)

Regards, Ed

We too would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to Dave and the team. Never had a need to contact you guys over the years as we found all the answers online, either here or at Beyonwiz.
Wishing you all the best for the future.
Icetv will be sadly missed in our household, as will the Skippa that never arrived. :(

Decided to add some manual timers for early next week to replace some series recordings.
Lo and behold, I got two timer conflict emails - don't know whether to laugh or cry.
Damn, I'll miss IceTV.

Hehe same.
I just had a brainwave on how to not jump off a bridge in the short term, by changing all my ICEtv set timers in my 2 PVRs from ONCE to WEEKLY, in the hope that the schedule isn't going to change too much (haha!).   At least this saves me starting from scratch setting timers, thanks ICE for being the seed to my weeklies ;)
Don't leave it too late everyone, as from early next week, no more timers are being set, you won't have anything to edit if you leave it too much longer.
edit:
p.s. Fargo on SBS HD starts next Wednesday, remember to add that weekly too.

Hoping. IceTV is an incredible service. I've been with you since mid 2006 and never miss a chance to show off the service. I have not set a manual timer on the box more than a few times in 9 years. The thought of having to trawl the FTA guide manually on the box is heartbreaking. The idea that nobody would take up the business is unthinkable.

Luckily (???) I killed TED on my Toppy5K a while back, so it is/was no longer uploading, so I had to do  that a while back.  Still got to check it daily and change things as necessary.

While looking at it yesterday, I discovered two things.  Even though I have IceTV timers till next Monday, Monday is full of errors, so basically it is only useful till Sunday.

Also discovered that Grey's Anatomy is back next Monday too - at 10pm, not at 12.30am (as listed by IceTV ;D)

BTW, while looking at yourtv, seems The big bang theory is now on Channel 7 as well as 9?

Hi Dave,

I hope you aren't playing with my mind.

I was so gutted to be loosing the IceTV service. I've been using it since my old Topfield 3000 with an Icebox (I think that was the name) before updating to Windows Media Centre (XP to Vista to Windows 7).  It been so long since I've set up a timer but yesterday I removed IceTV from MCE and went to Over the Air guide. I think I'm going to struggle deciding what is a new episode and what is a repeat and let's not get started on the show naming procedure. Arghhhhhhhhhhhh!

I for one hope that what ever is in the wind comes off and IceTV can continue to operate, but if it doesn't good luck in the future and thanks for all the help in the past years.

Duncan
