Title: News on EyeTV 2.3.2 with Australian EPG - Imminent?
Post by: imt on October 17, 2006, 11:39:53 AM
Mac users are salivating at this news. No sign at this moment of the update on the Eyetv site.

http://www.itwire.com.au/content/view/6378/127/ (http://www.itwire.com.au/content/view/6378/127/)

IceTV electronic programme guide now on Macs - Tuesday, 17 October 2006
What is claimed to be Australia's only commercial electronic program guide (EPG) service, IceTV is now available for Mac users as part of EyeTV.

Elgato Systems and IceTV have announced that part of the next release of EyeTV (version 2.3.2 Update) - which together with compatible hardware enables a Mac to operate both as a TV and as a digital video recorder (DVR) - will include complete integration of the IceTV EPG service for EyeTV users in Australia.

"An integrated EPG solution has been the one element holding back the EyeTV and Mac solution in Australia from rivalling PC's running Microsoft's XP Media Centre Edition 2005 as it does in other countries around the world" said IceTV's business development & marketing manager, Matt Kossatz.

Previously, EyeTV users in Australia have not had access to complete EPG listings for free-to-air television as they do in other countries such as in Europe through www.tvtv.com and in the US with www.titantv.co.

IceTV claims to provide a work around in the form of the IceTV widget, which allowed EyeTV users to schedule their TV recordings easily by selecting their favourite show and clicking 'add to EyeTV' to schedule a TV recording.

Now, according to IceTV "You can browse the IceTV EPG while watching live TV on your Mac, or view the synopsis details of your favourite shows up to one week in advance and schedule them to record automatically. With IceTV, you can schedule recordings directly through the EyeTV interface with 'one click'… no need to set the time, date, channel or duration."

IceTV also offers the unfortunately named PIMP (Personal Interactive Media Planner).   PIMP allows you to easily schedule TV recordings using any internet-enabled mobile phone or web browser but is only available for Media Centre customers in beta testing. IceTV says this service is "intended to be part of the EyeTV integration."

Yep, the software update will land very, very soon and will sport PIMP remote recording integration and pretty much everything we could possibly offer EyeTV users. There will also be some special deals on the EyeTV hardware via the IceTV online store, starting with the DTT stick at $199.

If anyone would like to trial the service with EyeTV, please go to our 30 day free trial page and sign up:

Please feel free to post here, PM me or contact (http://www.icetv.com.au/contactus.php) if anyone has any questions.

It's landed - see http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/15645. So far I've not been able to add IceTV to any channels. When I try I get offered the chance to select an EPG channel for the station - the list contains the word "None" and nothing else.

Is this an issue on your end or is it an EyETV issue?

Anyone lost vision for ABC2? I can hear it but I can't see it. All other channels are fine and it's OK on the other DSB in the house. Have deleted preferences and EyeTV helper etc etc but to no avail....guess it must be an issue for Elgato. ???

Looks like it will need another update to fix some odd bugs but I think some credit is due to the folk at ICE and Elagato that we now have a guide. Thanks.

Bugs so far that I can see are:

ABC2 (previously fine) has audio but no or very choppy video. Suspect this is EyeTV update issue. They claim to have 'improved' tuner sensitivity.

ABC Dig Radio shows as a pay($) channel

All I can say is WOW guys.

I am extremely happy, so happy in fact that I have ordered a 2nd tuner.

I am really impressed with PIMP as well.

Cheers,

Likkie.

All I can say is WOW guys.

I'm afraid all I can say is "well , it doesn't want to work for me."

Whenever (after working through all the previous steps in the IceTV support document) I go to the EyeTV Programs screen ((I have three options here in the EPG listings - DVD, IceTV and "None") and attempt to select the iceTV option  for a channel  , I get a message saying "Please select an EPG Channel for...."  (whatever the channel may be). Below this is a box in which the only thing which appears is "none" (with a "cancel" and "assign" option below). There seems to be no way of entering anything other than "None"!

What am I doing wrong?

Cheers

Rod - do you have an IceTV username that is an email address?

If so - go to http://www.icetv.com.au/cgi-bin/webmembers.cgi?op=showIceguide then into the Billing tab, and change your username to a single word username.

Update the details in EyeTV and let me know if it works (I had the same problem and this fixed it).

Shane.

The guys at Elgato have got back to me and I'm uploading some transponder files to them so they can work out the problem.
In the mean time, if you record ABC2 you can play back the EyeTV file in VLC player (http://www.videolan.org/) and everything is there.

Ah Shane, you are a marvel! That was exactly the problem. Fixed it perfectly.  This issue would be well worth a specific FAQ, or a mention in the existing one, I reckon.

Many thanks.

Actually I cannot log into the PIMP site as it says it is still in Beta and I have to be a member of the Beta Team.

I have sent the email requesting access to the Beta program - I don't expect an immediate response - but is this meant to be the case?

Everybody else here just seemed to be able to log into PIMP and away they went...

From an Elgato support e-mail:

"As of Friday Afternoon, the available download for EyeTV 2.3.2 is Build 2403. This can be confirmed by selecting About EyeTV from the EyeTV menu or Get Info on the Application.

There should be no problem with ABC2 in Australia."

I've downloaded it an all seems to be OK. ABC2 works.

I having an odd problem also. I boot from two different drives (a long story). I have the EyeTV current build (2396) and an account name that is not my email address. I had no problem setting up the program guide when booting from my internal hard drive but on the external one I get and error message from the EyeTV Guide preferences: "Account status not available (Error: -3263)". I have checked a dozen times and the username and password are definitely correct. Although I boot from two different drives, all my EyeTV data is stored on the internal drive. Is it possible a preference file is corrupt? Any other ideas?

How do you spell embarrassment. My problem was related to Little Snitch blocking the connection although, in my defence, I don't remember telling it to block EyeTV. All is working well now.

I am having the same problem and I have gone to the IceTV support page and followed all instructions. My username is not an email address, I have set up a new IceTV account, and still nothing appears in the program guide window. I go to "Update IceTV Guide" and it tells me "IceTV is currenty not used by any channel so no update is necessary." When I try to assign an EPG provider to my tuned channels I get the box that only offers me "none". My guide preferences have my account info and it tells me my account is active. How can I get the guide to show in my display?? I have followed all the instructions on the supprt page as mentioned. EyeTV has the logo "powered by IceTV" on the bottom of the window so I am assuming I am on the right track.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I *think* I can help with that. Do you have a tuner plugged in?

We've noticed EyeTV doesn't like not having a tuner when assigning an EPG to channels. Please let me know if that solves it for you.

I've installed the latest eyetv and have a valid account with icetv.

I am located in Sydney.

EyeTV recognises my valid IceTV account when I enter my username and password.

When I try to update the EPG, it says "update failed: server returned error".

When I try to update the scheduling, it says "The tvtv account information is invalid".

I have setup PIMP as per the instructions - my label is "lounge" which shows correctly in eyetv.

I just can't get my eyetv to update the EPG or the scheduler.

I've tried completely removing the eyetv application (including all the hidden places it stores files) and re-installed it as a brand new installation including auto-tune again. Didn't fix the problem.

Any ideas?

Just a thought: Have you set EyeTV to be the EPG provider in the channel list?

My EyeTV on the DTT stick is working well but I cannot get reliable reception on channels 9 and to a lesser extent SBS.  My Topfield box used to get breaking up reception but whilst the signal is weaker than other stations has been ok and my Samsung LCD with inbuilt HD tuner has no problems.

Looking at the signal in preferences, I get about 60% signal strength but 0% quality.  Same on all the TV outlets in the house.  It seems to me that the DTT hasn't got a very sensitive tuner in it.

If I set a timer on 9 it usually fails after about 2-24 seconds with a no-signal message.

How are others going with receiving Channel 9?

No issues here.

Where are you located? Maybe a Diversity (http://elgato.com/index.php?file=products_eyetvdiversity&PHPSESSID=1249ba85bf7665b5b680c886df94e0b7) might help?

Or some kind of booster?
