Is there a Christmas Special this year?
My IceTV is due to expire soon and I don't want to let it expire, but I really don't need it at the moment either as I'm trialing W7 with OTA EPG but my Beyonwiz is still alive and using IceTV but not doing much.
There is (or at least there was). I got an email about it on 16 Dec. First 500 customers, so it's probably gone by now.
I generally keep my IceTV paid up well ahead (currently to June 29, 2014) to make sure I can take advantage of the discount offers before my account expires.
I've only paid full price once, my first annual subscription in August 2007.

The promo traffic from IceTV isn't heavy IMO, and sometimes there are things that are useful :)
