Title: Netstream DTT Question
Post by: JimKirk on November 05, 2010, 09:22:40 AM
Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere, but how many simultaneous users can watch tv at the same time with this device.  I understand that there is only 2 tuners, but can i have 5 people all watching the SAME channel in seperate rooms, on seperate computers?

I suspect no.  The feature you are looking for is called multicast, and there are few enough hits when searching for "netstream dtt multicast" that it's probably not a feature.

Probably you could fake multicast by having a proxy like VLC connect to the Netstream DTT and serve multicast to the rest of your LAN (see http://wiki.videolan.org/Multicast). VLC streaming is not for the faint of heart.

I don't have a Netstream DTT, so this is only an educated guess.  The similar SiliconDust HDHomerun (which I do have) doesn't have multicast either.

Thanks futzle - i thought that may be the answer.  I'm familiar with VLC, and will take a look down that path - but as you say, can get complicated...

Many thanks
