Title: New shows
Post by: Daniel Hall at IceTV on June 22, 2010, 03:32:23 PM
Seen an ad on TV or a similar promotion of a show that's coming to free-to-air digital TV and want to let our team know so we can potentially add it to "New Shows (http://www.icetv.com.au/interactive/new_programs)"? Simply post the name of the show and any other info you want to share in this thread.

Our team will review your post and add any worthy suggestions to New Shows (http://www.icetv.com.au/interactive/new_programs) for everyone to enjoy.

I don't have any new show to report but I'd just like to say what a great idea this is. I'm too busy/lazy to check the listings for new shows that I might like to see, and sometimes I find myself in the middle of a series regretting I hadn't seen the earlier episodes. This should happen no more!

It'd be nice to have an option to sort by date.

My apologies, just went Googling, seems I am wrong

Another suggestion for New Shows: the option (settable in the Web My Account>TV Guide, along with Show Recommendations) to have programs in New Shows appear in My Upcoming Shows if their broadcast date & time are known and it's within the next 7 days.

Not sure how far ahead you want to put new shows in does it have to be something that has started promo's on TV or can it just be from news ?
Anyhow here goes - ABC are going to show Deadwood, Go is to show Sparticus Blood and Sand and Pretty Little Liars, Ten have picked up Mixed signals and Raising Hope.

What's happened to "New Shows" in Ice Interactive? There's a red recording icon next to every show, where I have only set up a couple to record. It was ok yesterday, so this is a new issue.

"Sherlock" has been "Coming Soon" in New Shows ever since New Shows started. How soon is "Soon"?

The Killing (Forbrydelsen) is shown as Coming Soon. Is it the second 10-episode season (Forbrydelsen II)?

McCullum is shown as "Coming Soon", but it's been running repeats (and in IceTV's schedule) for two weeks already.

Some of the programs that appear on the 'new shows' list, are placed there after channels release publicity promises and / or observing on-air promotions. Whether they eventually appear on that channel's schedule is obviously beyond our control. We all know how fickle they can be. There must come a point where we decide it's never going to happen - as you've alluded to here. I think with an example like 'Sherlock' it would be fair enough to remove from 'new shows'. For whatever reason, it's being held 'in the can'.

McCallum has been gone for a few days now. That was an anomaly.

I believe 'The Killing' will be as you have guessed. 'II'.

Thanks for the feedback on this. It's vital to us.

Re the Astro Boy post and others similar ...........

We're trying to keep the 'new shows' to prime-time or there abouts. The list gets way to long and unusable for most subscribers if we include cartoons (for example).

There are exceptions to that of course, with some major events falling outside of prime time hours.

Appreciate the posts.

Maybe because you have it as a "favourite" or a keyword pickup - another reason I subscribe to IceTV. I can understand the focus on getting the EPG right in the first instance, but there are other things that are going to need some serious attention soon IMO.

I think IanL-S means he had a series recording from the previous series so it automatically picked up the new series.

He may have meant that, but I don't think it works that way. In my experience an IceTV recording has to be set from the EPG (which may be flagged by a favourite, or keyword favourite) or from a keyword recording flag set in My Series.

Edit: On reflection you may both be right, if the first series was left in My Series as a flag to be recorded.

It was picked up by IceTV as it was set as a series recording, so there was no need for it to be in "coming soon" if you watched it before.  BTW, (I am always waay behind in my watching) I am very confused, because I don't remember ever having watched this show, yet it says the ep coming up is 'Series 2, Episode 3', but it also says 'NEW SHOW'

ABC Coming in 2016

Thanks for the heads-up. I spotted this yesterday, looking for a screen date for the new series of The Returned (which I haven't found yet):

In 2016, drama on SBS will be bigger and better than ever before, with comedy drama series The Family Law leading the way in January. Funny, frank and fearless, The Family Law is created by critically acclaimed writer Benjamin Law and adapted from his memoir of the same name. The series will give Australian audiences a vivid glimpse inside the gloriously dysfunctional world of a hilarious and heartwarming Chinese-Australian family. See a sneak peek here: https://youtu.be/e15MgFFrZD0

It joins new drama series The Missing, Tutankhamun starring Sam Neill, The Last Panthers, and returning franchises Bosch, The Bridge, The Returned, Masters of Sex and Vikings.

I have a request.  :)

Looking at the "coming soon" list, I discovered (after some Googling) that some of the shows listed have already been axed (or are about to be) in the US.  I, for one, would really appreciate a warning about that.

I record way too many shows as it is, (hoping someone will soon invent a way to extend the hours in every day  :P) so would rather not waste time and start watching a show that obviously didn't rate well.

Another one from my scan of the EPG "Sherlock (The Empty Hearse)" ABC Thursday 21 January at 8.30 pm. I would be surprised if this hadn't already been shown on Oz TV given the popularity of the series, but I can't find any reference to an Australian showing after a quick look at Wiki and IMDB. Perhaps someone with a better memory than mine can confirm.

If it has already been shown then it needs to be marked as a repeat.

btw the third episode of "Inside Men" is now marked as a repeat whereas the first two episodes were not. This might muck up some peoples' scheduled recordings.

I had a look at the IMDB synopses and it's definitely a repeat (though it's not marked as one in the ABC guide, either). The episode reveals what actually happened to Sherlock at the end of the final episode in Series 2 ("The Reichenbach Fall"). It's also a bit odd that the ABC guide says that "The Empty Hearse" is the first episode of season 3, but IMDB says that it's the second episode, with "Many Happy Returns" being the first. But thetvdb.com lists "Many Happy Returns" as a special, so maybe the ABC has that right.

I think the next new Sherlock is "The Abominable Bride" which is the 2106 special. IMDB says it was first aired (UK, I presume) on 1 Jan this year. IMBD says that Series 4 won't be aired until 2017 :(

Many happy returns is a 7 min trailer for the empty hearse. It was shown at the start of the empty hearse episode.

The abominable bride is a one off spin off set in Victorian times. It was released in theatres and is only available on Stan in Australia. The next new proper series is due in 2017.

From my understanding The Abominable Bride was the 2015 "Christmas Special" but was originally screened in early 2015 in UK cinemas. After screening recently on TV in the UK it was also released for cinema showings in China where the incumbent pair of Sherlock and Watson apparently have quite a following. If Series 4 doesn't appear until 2017 I suspect that it has to do with more than "other commitments" of this duo, which was the original excuse after the conclusion of Series 3.

As far as I am aware it is The Abominable Bride yet scheduled for screening on free to air TV in Australia. It is available exclusively on one of the streaming platforms - I think it may be Stan.

The BBC association may mean that it will not be available for free-to-air until the BBC First cable exclusivity runs out - I think that takes about a year. Most BBC content is subject to this delay, the most notable exception being Doctor Who.

Spotted screening after Jack Irish on ABC Thursday 11 February, No Offence (Series 1 : Episode 1). It's on ABC, so must be good eh, given that IceTV considers that ABC and SBS viewers deserve special treatment when it comes to repeats. And this isn't even a repeat [pause for cheers and fireworks] well I don't think so anyway.

From Wikipedia "No Offence is a 2015 British television police procedural comedy-drama shown on Channel 4, created by Paul Abbott." So those in the know will recognise the "creator", and those with even longer memories will recall Elaine Cassidy as Amy Harris in the Ghost Squad and more recently in The Paradise. The show is more of an ensemble effort, and has been renewed for a second series so there's a Great British vote of confidence.

Actually I'm not a fan of Shameless, although I know many are, but I am a fan of Elaine Cassidy (it probably showed). Seriously, No Offence is more of a drama than a comedy although Paul Abbott's stamp is unmistakable at least in the early episodes.

Congratulations on picking up Cuffs in What's on This Weekend, but why not Death in Paradise, Series 4 Episode 1 screening just before Cuffs? Both shows correctly featured in Coming Soon. Perhaps because Death in Paradise is an old favourite in peoples' My Shows, but still worth a reminder I think.

Is The Last Detective (starting on Prime on Tue 23 Feb) new? It's listed in Coming Soon (Web and Android app) and isn't marked as a repeat. I'm sure we've seen some of it, but I'm puzzled because we don't have a series recording for it. It's oldish (IMDB says originally screened 2003-2007). The episode shown in the Canberra IceGuide is for the pilot, first episode first series.

Has it run before, and if so, how much of the series has run?

From what I have seen the series is mostly spoken French with some Serbian and a fair amount of English. So not as many subtitles needed as for other French offerings.

These sort of hybrids seem to be quite common at the moment. The 100 Code is mostly in Swedish with a fair amount of English because of the involvement of a US detective. The "continentals" are a lot more tolerant of English than the English are of continental languages. The US is even worse, and they prefer to make their own US versions of TV series rather than try and understand even the UK idiom.

I'm probably in a minority but I have now taken to showing subtitles on most of what I watch, even in English, because I quite often have difficulty understanding what is being said. Not all actors can be Ralph Richardsons. So I hope that SBS will provide teletext for the English spoken parts of The Last Panthers as well as hard coded subtitles for the French and Serbian.

Regardless of what you may think of the worthiness of the IMDB rating for The Last Panthers, you could probably add another 0.5 to whole point for the amount that it has been downgraded because of subtitling.

I think what tezza007 means by "too many subtitles" is "pretty much any at all". ;)

Quote from: raymondjpg on March 23, 2016, 10:36:09 PM... The "continentals" are a lot more tolerant of English than the English are of continental languages.

When I lived in Switzerland in the 80s, English language movies shown in the cinema were generally shown in their original audio track and double-subtitled in both French and German. I understand that at least for mass-release movies, the practice in Germany was generally to dub foreign-language movies. I'm not sure what the practice was in Ticino, the Swiss canton where Italian is spoken. Because it's a small market, they may have just used whatever form it was distributed in in Italy.

But then the Swiss are pretty used to dealing with multiple languages. Their federal Parliament is conducted in all three official languages (so not also in Raeto-Romansch), and there's no simultaneous translation. Parliamentarians speak in their own language and others are supposed to understand. The only concession is that German speakers use standard German, not their dialect.

There's a lot more other language flexibility, too: for example, in The Bridge (original version), where Swedish characters speak Swedish and Danish characters speak Danish, and everyone, both characters and audience, understands.

I've seen Casablanca dubbed in German: "Spiel' es, Sam! Spiel' »As Time Goes By«!". :D

Quote from: raymondjpg on March 23, 2016, 10:36:09 PMSo I hope that SBS will provide teletext for the English spoken parts of The Last Panthers as well as hard coded subtitles for the French and Serbian.

Good luck with that. I only recall SBS having both teletext and hard subtitles on English-language programs, where the hard subtitles were provided for speech that was indistinct.

No, but if there's too many, I find myself missing too much of the show from reading the subtitles.
I also hate when there are no subtitles as so many movies do today in English language movies when someone speaks another language

I fear that you are probably right, but hope that you are wrong. One of the main reasons that I have not watched this series so far has been the quality of the subtitles, particularly for the English spoken parts.

That's often done for dramatic effect where it's being indicated that the English-speaking characters don't understand what's being said, or where language is important to the context.

IIRC it was done like that in The Great Escape, and important in at least one scene where some of the escapees are caught out by one of the German-speakers suddenly calling out to them in English as the walked way (thinking they were OK). It'd be difficult to convey that if the German-speakers spoke in the (often awful) German-accented English that was often used in movies like that. So it's actually not something particularly new (TGE was made in 1963).

Having grown up in Hungary, I am quite used to subtitles, they don't bother me.  Although, movies in Hungary are also often dubbed and it is done very well, it is considered an artform.  Sometimes, you can hardly tell it is dubbed.
I also noticed with modern Hungarian movies (now that Russian is not the only acceptable language any longer) that they don't have subtitles for any conversations taking place in English, German or Russian.  Obviously they are expected to understand. That annoys me, because I don't understand any that is not English.   ;D
SBS subtitles leave a lot to be desired for several reasons.
A friend is always cracking jokes about Hungarian movies having white subtitles written on snow.  ::) I haven't noticed until she pointed it out, as I rarely read the subtitles for Hungarian movies.  Now, I see that all the time  :P
When I do look, it brings me to complaint number 2.  Sometimes the translation is shocking, not even resembling what's being said.  I can only presume that it is as bad for other languages.
Reminds me of having gone to see an Italian movie with an Italian friend.  Everyone was rolling with laughter, the actors on screen spoke for a good minute, and the subtitle said "yes"

I hadn't noticed any white subtitles on SBS Perhaps because I haven't watched any Hungarian movies? I must say that I prefer the SBS yellow subtitles and use yellow for all my custom subtitling. BBC uses white more often than not which I do not like, probably for the same reason that it does not show up so well on some backgrounds.

One of my pet hates too, as a connoisseur now of English subtitles for spoken English!

Quote from: prl on March 24, 2016, 11:58:27 AMGood luck with that. I only recall SBS having both teletext and hard subtitles on English-language programs, where the hard subtitles were provided for speech that was indistinct.

I fear that you are probably right, but hope that you are wrong. One of the main reasons that I have not watched this series so far has been the quality of the subtitles, particularly for the English spoken parts.

SBS has provided teletext subtitles for the English spoken parts of the first episode, I guess maybe because there is a significant proportion of spoken English in the episode. I think it is likely they will continue with this practice for the rest of the series, for the same reason.

Unfortunately SBS is broadcasting a version with skinny white subtitles for the French spoken parts, courtesy of a.s.i.f. - Anglo Subtitlers in France. It's not anyone's fault, but I prefer SBS own yellow ones. Luckily the series is not in snow-bound country!

Spotted in the IceTV XML guide Lewis - One for Sorrow - Parts 1 and 2 Wednesday May 11 on 7TWO. This is confirmed on yourtv guide. This is the latest series of Lewis, now no longer the most miserable detective on TV, and as far as I know has not been shown previously in Aus. Unlike the UK where viewers had to wait for part 2, here we are treated to the full story in one hit. There are three (double) episodes in the series.

Am I to assume he didn't mean IceTV only puts rubbish in Coming Soon.  So who does put it in? prl usefully alerted us to the fact it was a new season and some people, me included, like the show.  So we responded and listed it.

Wikipedia confirms that it is not the latest series, but the one before the latest. So yes, they are still making it and Emilia Fox seems to be about the only reason that they persist. Most of the other Silent Witness stalwarts have now departed.

Lewis is in fact currently in Coming Soon (at least for the ACT). It was also in today's "IcePicks" and in the current Android app Recommendations.

Also, I make 6 SBS Documentaries ("Documentary" genre in the IceGuide) in Coming Soon out of 36 entries, so more like 17%. There are a lot of food/cooking shows/competitions, though, mostly from the Food Network.

Not appreciated enough such that posts here ever get a response/thanks/acknowledgment.

I think the issue that has been raised a few times is that unpopular late night/ daytime reality shows on the more obscure channels always seem to be added to coming soon but a new series of a popular prime time show needs user prompting to get it added.
Title: Re: New shows

Noted.

I don't wish to seek excuses as I know how hard my guide team works but have a look at this, especially the last para:  http://www.acma.gov.au/Industry/Broadcast/Television/TV-content-regulation/electronic-program-guides-tv-content-regulation-acma

So there is no legislated way of getting the networks to keep reliable EPG data, note the update on 14/4/16.  'Can't say the update was constructive, whatever it was...

In the 11 years I've owned part, and now all, of IceTV we've grown from 5 channels to 17.  The growth would be fine as it's our business and we have to 'grow with the flow', but since the new channels were added late last year we have never seen so many constant and ambiguous last-minute changes to the EPG. Trying to keep on top of new shows whilst chasing show schedule changes, frequently unique to a capital city, is an onerous workload for all the team.  But we are learning and improving our tracking methods so please bear with us. Quite what the commercial networks think they are achieving in an 'appointment viewing' scenario, when the appointments are unknown, is beyond me! If an EPG update for a repeat flag or whatever isn't done until a day before the show is to be recorded it will still get recorded correctly as long as your PVR logs on for EPG updates.  If a New Show isn't listed just let us know and we'll post it, and probably add it to our IcePicks email.  All your constructive post are helpful to all our customers and my team appreciate them enormously.

I'd guess that his "problem" is that neither Lewis nor Silent Witness was listed until someone here bought it to your attention.

Yet we can't win.  If we mention something, we get told off, if we don't then we either miss a show we would have liked to watch, had we known it was on, or we can check elsewhere to see what's on and then let you know, hoping not to get reprimanded for doing so.

Of course the problem I have with "Lewis" in "coming soon", is the descriptive text.
And I quote
"Inspector Morse is no longer with us but his longtime deputy, Sergeant Lewis, is back in the Oxford police department. Lewis is the boss now, an Inspector to boot, and his young partner DS Hathaway is the one who needs to be shown the ropes."

If seems to describe the very first episodes, rather than the current set.

Hi there -

The Durrells will be added to the list later this afternoon when the guide for next Wednesday begins to populate.  It will appear after midnight, when the database updates the Coming Soon list.

Tezza, as for Brock it will probably not appear in the Coming Soon list as it will be viewed more as a Telemovie and we tend to keep Movies and one-off docs out of this list.  However, I'll make sure it appears in the Newsletter so you can add it to your recordings.

Cheers,

What's so strange about it? They're doing an all-night binge of repeats of the first half of Season 4 as a prelude to running new episodes of the second part of Season 4, starting on Wed 7 Jan with a double episode: "The Outsider" (S4E11) and "The Vision" (S4E12).

A chance to find out, if you don't know already, why Ragnar is so cranky with the folk of Kattegat in the promo for the new episodes ;)

Dicte, or "Dicte - Crime Reporter" or even just "Crime Reporter" was not found in our database. Interesting that Dicte is now available on SBS On Demand but it appears to have never been on TV in Australia, yet. Maybe SBS want to see how popular it is on SBS On Demand before considering whether to air it on TV.

On checking my archives I see that the first two series of Dicte that I watched were not from Australian TV. So it appears, as you say, to have never been seen on TV in Australia.

On the plus side SBS On Demand is currently offering all three series, not just the most recent. I found them very enjoyable and would recommend them to anyone with a penchant for Scandinavian drama. They are not really Noir though! More along the lines of the Anna Pihl series.

I don't know why SBS is offering them On Demand prior to screening, if indeed they have plans to do that. IIRC Midnight Sun was pre-released on the internet with a foreshadowing of broadcast viewing. The practice seemed to originate with the pre-release of New Blood by the BBC on iPlayer, ostensibly because that was the way the younger folk were supposed to prefer to find their TV. I don't see why that should predicate pre-release in that way, and as far as I know the BBC is not making a practice of it, thank goodness.

SBS have quite a few things on their SBS on Demand site, which they have no intention of ever airing on FTA TV.  Dicte may well be one of these shows.

The ABC openly says that they don't care how you're watching their shows - live, recorded and watched later, or on iView.  Just as long as you're watching them.  I suspect SBS have a similar attitude.

That may be what they are saying publicly, but privately I suspect they would prefer for us to be watching live with attendant relentless self-promotion (in the case of the ABC) and advertisements (in the case of SBS). My point was more why release first on the net, then, if they intend to broadcast, do that later. I'm sure net denizens have plenty of phone-fiddling alternatives to entertain themselves with while waiting until after a broadcast event to watch it on line.

I really don't think the ABC cares at all.  SBS have ads in their SBS on Demand shows anyway, so they get the revenue they need whether you're watching on TV or streaming.

I see that SBS On Demand is offering another complete Scandi series, Blue Eyes (Blå Ögon), which is more a political thriller along the lines of Borgen, perhaps a little more Noir. The offering is made as a "Web Exclusive" so in this case there doesn't appear to be any prospect of TV broadcasting, at least not for now.

I have just noticed, on refreshing the My Week page in the web browser for the first time in a couple of days, that the listing for Orphan Black scheduled for 8.30 pm Sunday on Viceland switched from "Repeat" to New Show. On further inspection I found that this Sunday's episode is the second in the latest and final 5th series of the show. Does this mean that IceTV missed flagging the first episode of this show as a New Series?

ABC is now advertising "Pulse" to start 8:30pm Thursday 20 July. I have no idea what we can expect, but Claire van der Boom has a following and the Ozzie cast has many of the old stagers we would expect to see but not including as far as I can tell Jackie Weaver, although Susie Porter can be seen lurking in the background. Owen Teale is billed as a "Game of Thrones" player, and to top it all the show is billed as "Inspired by a true story of a transplant patient who became a doctor". Well, can't go wrong then. More details here (http://www.tvtonight.com.au/2017/06/gallery-pulse.html).

Fans of Jane Tennison will most probably welcome "Prime Suspect 1973" starting Friday 21 July on ABC. From Wikipedia: "Prime Suspect 1973 is a British television detective drama series, and a prequel to the long-running Prime Suspect series, originally starring Helen Mirren as DCI Jane Tennison." Jane is played quite creditably in this prequel by Stefanie Martini.

Little Boy Blue now being advertised to start showing Monday 11 September on the 7 network. Screened quite recently on ITV in the UK, IMDB rating FWIW 8.1. From the OTA EPG "Based on a true story that shocked a nation, this powerful two-part factual drama centres on the devastating impact on a city of an innocent child's murder amid a wave of gang violence." The advert I saw was with Lennie James, which means it is series 1. The newest series should have Thandie Newton as the officer under investigation.

Hopefully they will be showing series 4 as series 2 & 3 were exceptionally good.

I must admit that I hadn't noticed who was in the promo, it just sounded like new plot material - I thought I head mention of a "death threat to a Royal" which I didn't remember from earlier series, but I may just be making that up now, I can't really remember. IMDb certainly doesn't mention anything like that for series 4.

Line of Duty isn't showing up on yourtv.com.au yet, so I can't check what's coming up there.

In my opinion nothing came close to series 2 and 3, with 2 being one of the best whodunnits I ever saw on TV. I thought Keeley Hawes was excellent, and history until I watched series 3. Not to say that what followed was not good, just not as good. It is difficult for a TV series, or movie franchise for that matter, to keep up a standard that viewers come to expect.

I agree that series 2 & 3 are some of the best detective / police shows of all time and it's a genre where I thought I'd seen everything. The rapid changes in intensity from never quite knowing where Keeley Hawes sits, who the Caddy is, the intense procedural interview with Daniel Mayes and finishing with "Rapid Exit Required" it really had everything.

Even though I cannot find any reference for an ABC premier date for Killing Eve it is probably worth flagging that the entire series one is available on iview https://iview.abc.net.au/programs/killing-eve/ZW1632A001S00. The show has not even screened in the UK yet, only on BBC America which commissioned a second series before the first even hit the screen.

Most noted for breaking a ratings record, not for total audience, but because it consistently grew its audience with each episode. Highly entertaining and probably worthy of its IMDB rating of 8.6 although it is early days and some of that rating may be attributed to an OMG factor.

If not interested in iview, worthy of an IceTV keyword favourite or recording.

Does anyone know what SBS will be doing with Counterpart? They broadcast its first episode on SBS & SBS HD at 22:30 16 June, but since then its timeslot has been taken over by broadcasts of some ball game. When they've finished with the ball game, the slot will be been taken over by the peloton.

A few days ago, a letter-writer to the Canberra Times grumbled that after the one-episode teaser, SBS wasn't going to broadcast Counterpart at all (though the letter called it "Counterpoint"), it was only going to be made available for streaming. Is that correct?

It does seem like it will now be streaming only and they are heavily advertising it as that on SBS.

For info, SBS weren't expecting to get all of the World Cup - they had handed over 39 matches exclusively to Optus (in exchange for some of next season's EPL matches) but got them all back when the Optus streaming of the World Cup failed.

But the SBS online EPG says that the first episode of Taboo will be shown on SBS and SBS HD at 22:35 8 Aug. It's not on on Viceland in that timeslot, either.

I'm not sure what's going on with "Trust Me". Originally SBS was advertising a new series. Now it appears that they are showing Series 1, which according to IceTV has not been screened previously in Australia. At least it is not advertised as a repeat.

Series 2, from what I have read, does not feature Jodie Whittaker because of her involvement in Doctor Who. As far as I know that new series, based on a similar premise as series 1, but with a different cast, has yet to see the light of day.

Spiral Series 7 is scheduled to arrive on SBS on Demand Thursday 12 September, according to a newsletter released by SBS on 29 August.

Interestingly, for me at least, BBC had announced "while we wait for the new season of Spiral" they would be showing a reboot of the original Danish series Those Who Kill, titled "Darkness: Those Who Kill", starting this weekend on the BBC 4 Saturday night slot, two episodes a night over the next four weeks. Interesting because I always thought that SBS benefited from the BBC's expert translation of street French. Maybe BBC has already completed this, because the timing suggests that SBS will be offering Spiral 7 in advance of the BBC.

I don't know about the credibility of the source, but they are accurate enough about the screening of series 7 in France earlier this year and about probably coming to BBC 4.

Silent No More

Journalist Tracey Spicer will front a 3 part series Silent No More, around the Australian response to #metoo, on the ABC.

Produced by Southern Pictures it includes interviews with women who have spoken out about harassment, plus the social change which has followed. Spicer has been an advocate for change although has also publicly acknowledged issues surrounding defamation have made media organisations nervous and #metoo have hit the 'pause button' as a result.

Over three episodes, Tracey explores how #MeToo is changing Australia, tackling the confusion and backlash caused by the movement. She speaks to ordinary Australians who bravely share their experiences, looks at how the system must be reformed, and explores how #MeToo can be the catalyst for positive change for everyone, regardless of gender.

Mondays at 8:30pm from 25 November.

Mystify: Michael Hutchence

This is a feature-length theatrical documentary written and directed by Richard Lowenstein, director of many of both INXS and Michael's hit music videos and the 1986 feature film, Dogs in Space, in which Hutchence played the lead.

Mystify is a journey into the heart and soul of internationally renowned INXS front-man Michael Hutchence, and delivers an intimate narrative portrait, imbued with authenticity, warmth and humour. Michael came to epitomise the very definition of leather-clad sexually magnetic rock front-man, but underneath it all he was a poetic, multifaceted and intensely sensitive man who struggled with the idea of success and the creative limits of pop.

Sunday 24 November at 8.40pm on ABC.

I wouldn't be surprised if the IMDB rating is more a reflection of viewers' reaction to the main plot line, which (without giving away too much in the way of spoilers, after all the book has been published for some time) revolves around the ruthless exploitation by security services of what is essentially a relatively naive member of the general population. This theme has been repeated time and again recently, involving not only security services but also police forces, to the point where it becomes depressing.

I thought the BBC made a reasonable fist of it. It's not as if the book is in the same class as the mainstream Le Carré's work. Fans of Eric from True Blood will see Alexander Skarsgård feature in one of the main roles.

... the main plot line, which (without giving away too much in the way of spoilers, after all the book has been published for some time) revolves around the ruthless exploitation by security services of what is essentially a relatively naive member of the general population.  ...

It's not as if the book is in the same class as the mainstream Le Carré's work.

I think it's fair to say that the misuse of naive members of the general public by the security services in Carré's work goes back all the way back to The Spy Who Came In From The Cold. The misuse (by George Smiley, IIRC) of a naive member of ones own security services was the theme of The Looking Glass War. Smiley's People revolves around the misuse of a relative of a high-ranking Russian member of the KGB to extort the agent's defection.

Van Der Valk ABC/ABC HD Sat 4 Apr 20:30: reboot of a UK-made & cast police detective drama set in Amsterdam that ran 5 seasons between 1972 & 1992. The reboot stars Mark Warren (Danny Blue in Hustle) as Commissaris/Inspector Van Der Valk.

It hasn't rated all that well on IMDb, though: 7.0 for the original series and 6.4 for the new one.

A minor thing, Series 6 of The Brokenwood Mysteries looks to have started off with "The Power Of Steam" scheduled for 9Gem, 8:30pm, Sun, 7 June. I have it in my Manage Series list, but for those who don't, I don't recall having seen it in New Series i.e. no yellow star against the listing in My Week.

If the whole series is broadcast there will be four episodes.

The ABC has started advertising Annabel Crabb's Further Back In Time for Dinner, which looks like a follow-on to the earlier Back In Time for Dinner. Will IceTV be treating them as seasons of the same show, or will Further Back In Time for Dinner be treated as a separate series (and need its own series recording)?

If we look at TheTVDB they list three series of Back In Time for Dinner, the UK original as "Back In Time for Dinner", and two others as "Back in Time for Dinner (AU)" and "Back In Time For Dinner (CA)". There is a UK follow up listed as "Further Back in Time for Dinner" so to be consistent it would appear that the latest Annabel Crabb offering might be listed as "Further Back in Time for Dinner (AU)".

Looking at the information available for this show, I would tend to treat it as a sequel to the original "Back In Time For Dinner" and therefore it would require a separate series recording.  I will certainly add it to " New Series" shortly.

To the best of my recollection we haven't seen anything of Inspector Montalbano for some time in Australia. I think maybe Series 11 "A Den of Vipers" and "As Per Procedure", dated 2017, but I could be wrong.

I do keep a close eye on what the BBC has to offer, particularly Saturday night on BBC4, and Series 13 appeared quite recently, I think this year, again two episodes. Now Series 14, two episodes, are showing, the first aired last Saturday and the second next Saturday.

I'm surprised more recent series haven't come here yet, but what appears on BBC tends to show up in Aus sooner or later.

I sometimes wonder if there is any point in updating this thread, eg. my previous post re: Mastermind.

Oh well, just in case there is a point/reason:

Shadowplay comes to SBS next month.

The series stars Taylor Kitsch, Nina Hoss and Michael C. Hall, set in the direct aftermath of World War II, seen from the perspective of 1946's Berlin.

The eight-part drama from the creators of Midnight Sun and The Bridge launches with a double episode on SBS and SBS on Demand.

8:30pm Thursday 4th March

And another:

Season 2 of the UK crime drama The Bay returns to Seven next week with a double episode (6 episodes in total).

8:30pm Wednesday February 10

Hi Bazza, hi everyone,

Please keep updating this thread with any errors as we are getting very near to solving some horrid coding issues that came out of "left field" with our new systems and your feedback is essential to find and fix them.

Also, please don't infer a lack of reply as us ignoring you, it is simply that we have been knee deep in trying to fix the issues and getting sidetracked into ping-ponging forum conversations can be distracting.  We are noting every forum report and they are collated into commonalities which are either being investigated and in the process of being fixed or in the list to work through.

It's been a nightmare for all of us with the team working 7 days a week and into the night but the end is in sight.

Many thanks for your patience and support.

My earlier comment ... "Why do I bother" wasn't about any of the problems IceTV is currently experiencing and I appreciate the effort put in by IceTV staff to fix 'em. Nor was it about whether or not someone from IceTV replies to my post.

It was about the fact that I add info about upcoming shows but they never, or very, very rarely appear in the "New Series" list.

As of this post the last 3 shows I've mentioned still aren't listed ... so it's almost ... why bother?

Here's another:

Another NEW show:

New local comedy Why Are You Like This launches on February 16th on ABC TV Plus with 20-something friends played by Naomi Higgins, Olivia Junkeer and Wil King.

Info:

Created and written by Naomi Higgins, Humyara Mahbub and Aunty Donna's Mark Samual Bonanno, Why Are You Like This follows best friends Mia and Penny as they navigate their 20s in Melbourne, along with Penny's dramatic and aloof housemate, Austin. Guided by their own modern day moral code, they confront complex social issues in an outrage driven world, leaving a path of destruction in their wake.

Note:
Why Are You Like This, one of four pilots supported through Screen Australia and the ABC's "Fresh Blood" initiative, has been greenlit for a six-part series.

I didn't think that all new shows were automatically (or even routinely) put into the IceTV New Shows list. I thought that it was more to reflect what the team thought people would be most interested in.

That is correct.  We don't flag every new series.

Personally I think you should ... that's the point of "New/Returning Series".

I could even be done automagically when a new series or season is added to the IceTV DB.

Hi  BazzaG,

If we automated it, apart from using more developer time, it would grab all sorts of rubbish like cartoons (personal opinion!) and the list would be horribly long and a pain to wade through. If we tried to filter it I could see even more developer time😬.  When we finally get this nightmare database update debugged down to getting repeat flags correct, on every obscure show on every channel across every region in Australia, the guide team will have a bit more time to plow through whatever's coming up and, if the series are attractive to a decent size of our audience, they'll add them.

BTW - our Most Popular list on the website gives a good idea of what is really popular and, far down at the bottom, what may be only viewed by a very small number of subscribers.

Our synopsis for S2 agrees with your post. S2E1 Vampire Witch commencing 12/10 states: In this true crime docu-series, a bizarre murder in Pennsylvania reveals the online cult of Sherry Shriner, a wannabe CNN news anchor, who leads thousands of Americans to believe that a race of devil-worshipping, shape-shifting reptiles from outer space is ushering in a New World Order.

Would I lie to You? is now in the "New Shows" list and in the description it does appear to reference the Aussie version.

May I suggest though, that IceTV create 2 show records to easily identify between the UK & AU versions, ie.

Would I Lie to You? (UK)  and  Would I Lie to You? (AU)

-----

And here's another new show to add to the list:

Showtrial

5 episodes starting with a double episode next week:

8:30pm Thursday February 24th on Seven.

Original Network: BBC iPlayer

Title: Re: New shows
Post by: prl on February 16, 2022, 04:55:10 PM
Yes, separate identification in the title would be useful, because it's definitely regarded as a separate series by IceTV - my existing series recording for the UK WILTY isn't picking up the new AU WILTY.

Tomorrow Tonight: Season 2, 8 episodes - Wednesday 30th March at 9:00pm on ABC.

Crime Investigation Australia: Season 4 - Sunday 27th February at 8:45pm on Seven.

PS. CIA is already in the EPG but not in the new series list. Also, the episode Title & description currently listed is INcorrect. It should be:

QuoteThe Cangai Siege
In March 1993, three men went on a brutal murder rampage, killing five people and taking children as hostages. Their crime wave culminated in a siege at an unoccupied homestead in Cangai, NSW.

Hi BazzaG,

thankyou for your email.
We have corrected the episode name for Crime Investigation Australia on Sunday night to The Cangai Siege. A new episode description will be written ASAP.
From what I can tell..Crime Investigation Australia Series 4 Episode 2 aired on Sunday 30 January (Kerry Whelan)...just before the Winter Olympics took over for the next 3 Sunday evenings....why they didn't air Episode 1 on the 30th is anyone's guess.
It should now show up in New Shows as well....I think the lone airing on the 30th jan may have thrown everyone a curve ball.

And I can add another:

Wiggly Fruit Salad

My grand children LOVE the Wiggles, anything Wiggles.

While I have a generic show selection for the word: Wiggle, it didn't pick up this new show until the 1st 3 episodes had been broadcast since the 1st 3 episodes didn't contain that word.

It wouldn't have been nice to have been included in the New Shows list.

I've mentioned this in another thread & I don't understand why it couldn't be that if a show; maybe any show series or not, that meets the following criteria:

NEW and SEASON ?? and EPISODE 1

then automatically add it to the "New Shows" list.

Hi,

It's actually "New Series".  We always intended the "New Series list" to be a selection chosen by us, not every single new series, coming or having just aired in the past week, on every channel in Australia.  You say "multiple people" but how many is that as the more we shove into the list the less people will read all through it as it will become unwieldy, hence we decided on a selection, not every one.  My advice is to ensure you are alerted to a "Motorsport" xxxx series or single episode by using it as a keyword favourite, just as you use favourites, but keyword rather than series title specific, then you'll see every one and can choose which ones to set to record.

Bazza did just last week and ive seen other people request it in the past. The problem is there is no way for users to search for new shows in the guide so the only way is for icetv to flag them. I'm not just talking motorsport. these are just the ones missed in the last 2 weeks. I'm talking all types of shows. Fishing, drama, sitcoms, comedy, etc.

If there was a way for us to search the guide for them then it could be laid to rest

Use Keyword Favourites as I suggested as this is exactly what they are for. We will not clutter up the New Series list with a smorgasbord of topics that have specific user groups.

Quote from: raymondjpg on October 13, 2020, 01:14:24 PMI do keep a close eye on what the BBC has to offer, particularly Saturday night on BBC4, and Series 13 appeared quite recently, I think this year, again two episodes. Now Series 14, two episodes, are showing, the first aired last Saturday and the second next Saturday.
BBC4 has just rerun Series 14 of Montalbano, and I see from their program guide that a new episode "The Catalanotti Method" is to be broadcast next Saturday 2 July 2022. It is billed as "The final episode of the Montalbano saga".

Wikipedia lists it as a single episode of Series 15.

I cannot recall when Montalbano was last broadcast in Australia.

I've noticed two glitches in the new shows list

The first one presented itself overnight. Shows that are currently airing & then the upcoming season gets added to new shows, once the old season clears off the top of the new shows list, it drops the new show.

Two examples:

Vienna Blood (dropped off this morning as the last season still airing - 17/8) new season starts 14/9

and one that will drop of next tuesday due to this glitch

Atlanta (old season airing 22/) new season starts 16/9.

The other thing i noticed was that say a season starts on day x, it will then move forward on the list to the following weeks airing too as if thats the start date. Vienna Blood is an example of this. It started 3/8 (S01E01-E02), then 10/8 (S01E03 + S02E01) & 17/8 (S02E02-E03) was the 3rd & final week of the run. So rather than it showing in new shows as 3/8 it actually moved each week after the previous airing.

If we added every New SERIES that airs every day the list would become unwieldy (arguably full of crap) and no one would bother scrolling through it.
Title: Re: New shows
Post by: aeb001 on February 21, 2023, 10:03:56 AM
Considering there is 5 networks there is only a few new series each week. As an example for this week (Mon- Sun 20-27/2) there is 21 shows so making sure the tick box to add it to the new series page for an extra show or two wouldnt be that big an ask.

Otherwise IceTV users wont know what new series are starting because there is no manual way to search for "epsiode 1" as you can only search show names / episode names, not meta data.

Currently there is 52 shows on that page with some not starting for 3+ weeks, some without a start date & 1 that never started.

On yesterdays "What's On This Week" email GoggleBox was listed but even thats not on the new series page.

I'm just asking on behalf of all users for an easy way to see all new series so we can decide which ones we would like to record / watch.

PS as mentioned previously there are some shows where after each airing the show rolls forward 7 says a starting dat of the next airing. I have highlighted two of them as an example so dan can check it out
Paul O'Grady For The Love Of Dogs: What Happened Next? 18/2 > started 11/2
 Confucious Was A Foodie 21/2 > 15/2

I have been using IceTV since the very early days (not long after I got my SD Toppy), and I have never expected every "new" series to make the list.

In particular, I would not generally expect a new season of an ongoing series to make the list except when IceTV data indictes that it is extremely popular with users.

Much of what is offered by free to air TV does not appeal to me. The content of some of the secondary LCN is of interest to a select group of users, who can get the information they desire from the provider. The popularity listing in the IceTV app suggests that the most popular programs are on the primary LCN for each network. There is, surprisingly(?), one or two programs on SBS Viceland.

Seriously, how much time do you expect us to spend on your constant tiny weeny detail complaints? Would you like an increase in the subscription price? If not just pull your head in and get a realistic understanding of the huge number of shows that we have to curate where 100% accuracy is an aim but one that is humanly impossible to achieve at our current operational costs.

Rabbit Hole was in this week's IcePicks as a series, and we recorded the pilot episode as part of a series recording on Ten HD at 21:15 on Mon Mar 27. But there's no episode being being broadcast on Ten in the same timeslot next week on Mon 3 Apr (Would I Lie to You? is being broadcast in the timeslot).

When we watched the recording last night, we noticed that every ad break had an ad for Rabbit Hole streaming on Paramount+.

Does anyone know whether the body of season 1 of Rabbit Hole will be broadcast on FTA, or was Monday's pilot essentially an hour-long ad for the series on Paramount+?

I asked our guide team yesterday as there are no upcoming episodes in its New Series section, and we are none the wiser. It appeared that Monday's was a pilot episode but no more episodes have been listed. As you suggest maybe 10 was simply using it as a promo for its parent's (Paramount) streaming service, or maybe, as SBS does, the rest will appear once the use of the streaming has diminished. Nevertheless frustrating.

That is correct, it was just a hour long "ad" & it's not the 1st time that Ten has done just that (eg. Last King of the Cross & others). If you want to watch the episode 2 & above you will need to subscribe to Paramount+. There are 8 episodes in the 1st season of which the 1st 2 episodes were streamed on Sunday (US time) and the remainder weekly.

I guess that sometime in the future Rabbit Hole will be aired on FTA.

although it was basically an advert for Paramount+ if you wait till the series has finished airing on Paramount, ten then airs it. For example Blue Bloods, My Life Is murder, five bedrooms, etc. Is just an interesting (although annoying) way of finsing out if the show is worth commiting to.

There is no guarantee that will be happen.

Both "My Life is Murder" and "Five Bedrooms" started life as Channel Ten shows but neither of them are anymore. "Blue Bloods" was & still is a CBS show (just renewed for S14).

"My Life is Murder": Season 1 was a Ten & TVNZ co-production. However, since S2 MLIM moved to NZ and is now a TVNZ/Acorn TV co-production. I believe Ten still holds the FTA rights in AU but neither S2 (2021) nor S3 (2022) have been broadcast by Ten (as far as I'm aware). The only reference on 10Play is for S1 (but no episodes).

"Five Bedrooms": Again S1 was broadcast on Ten FTA but this was 1 of those shows moved to P+ in order to get people to sign-up to P+ shortly after Viacom CBS purchased Channel Ten. Only S1 is available on 10Play. S2 (Aug 2021) & S3 (Jan 2022) are still both P+ only shows, with S4 due later this year.

Shows such as, "Last King of the Cross" (filmed in AU & about John Ibrahim) & "Rabbit Hole" are both P+ original shows.  These shows may get a broadcast on FTA but if so, it could be years from now ... most likely after the show has been cancelled or ended.

Personally, it's just a cynical exercise on Ten's behalf to broadcast just the 1st episode, but enough said.

The second season of My Life is Murder was shown on 10 in the second half of last year. The third season has not.

Other programs where 10 used this approach include FBI International and NCIS Hawai'i; possibly did the same with FBI Most Wanted.

Both are still airing on ten after thre current season finishes on paramount. mlim S02 aired already & s03 is actually airing right now & s02 of five bedrooms aired middle to late 2022. S03 of five bedrooms is yet to air though.

Then I'll have to "stand corrected". But it's interesting there's no reference to these shows on 10Play. I guess that if you miss the FTA broadcast then the only way to watch a 'replay' is to get a P+ subscription.

Anyway, time to move on ...

It's been sometime since this thread has been updated, which isn't surprising given the earlier posts. I hoping that everyone has calmed down with passage of time. So let's see ...

The First Inventors

Initially announced during the 2021 Upfronts, then delayed by COVID, both NITV & Ten have finally announced a broadcast date.

Rob Collins hosts doco series, a co-commission by NITV and Network 10, to screen simultaneously on both networks.

Four-part documentary series, The First Inventors, celebrating and exploring the world's longest surviving culture – that of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples will screen in June.

8:30pm Thursday 15 June on both NITV and 10.

Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrRn_UfWKYQ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrRn_UfWKYQ)

PS. It will be interesting to see just how "simultaneous" the broadcast on NITV & 10 actually are. On NITV, 1 hour of TV you'll get at most 10 mins (generally less) of ads in 3 ad breaks. On 10, at 7:30pm you'll get at least 20 mins of ads across 5+ ad breaks.
All 4 episodes go for a total of 176 mins or an average of 44 mins per episode.

FYI,

Mr Mayor's Magical L.A. Christmas, is a Season 01 Special episode (S01S01), in this case an Xmas special. It was originally broadcast on the NBC in the US in Dec '21, several months before the 1st season 2 episode: Move Fast and Break Things was broadcast in March '22.

Without having access to Nine's EPG beyond the next 7 days, I suspect this is the return of Mr. Mayor and the 1st episode of S2 will likely go to air on Monday the 19th June*.

* Yep, confirmed.

Mother & Son [reboot]

First look at ABC's all new Mother & Son, the classic comedy rebooted with Matt Okine and Denise Scott.

Following a breakup from his long-suffering girlfriend, Dee (Andrea Demetriades), Arthur (Matt Okine) puts his future on hold to move back home with his widowed mother, Maggie (Denise Scott). Arthur and his older sister, Robbie (Angela Nica Sullen) – arguably 'the favourite' – attempt to care for Maggie, who may recently have almost burnt down the kitchen, but still runs circles around her children!

When: 8:30pm Wednesday 23rd August on ABC.

More Info: https://tvtonight.com.au/2023/07/airdate-mother-son.html (https://tvtonight.com.au/2023/07/airdate-mother-son.html)

Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qiqFlu3StiE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qiqFlu3StiE)

To be honest the ABC is taking a risk with this given that the original with Ruth Cracknell & Garry McDonald is such a well loved classic (perhaps the best weekly comedy show that Australia has ever made ... IMHO anyway).

The IMDb synopsis for the series is short, but what's there doesn't seem inconsistent with the IceTV description to me. The Wikipedia series synopsis is pretty much the same as the IMDb synopsis.

also meant to say that I have added Motorsport to Circuit Boats...I see that we have Australian V8 Superboats under Motorsport, so it makes sense. Whenever the word Motor is mentioned I immediately think of a car or motorbike....

the trick is when i search the tv guide some shows dont have "motor sport" as the genre but ado have "motorsport" in the title. so that how i find them & add them to my schedule. can miss them if i do a quick search each monday arvo after the following week & weekends guides have been added online. Same with fishing.

Diesel Brothers - returned after 2 yrs away. PS episode number is incorrect so your records might be out. "Back with a Kodiak" is S07E01

PS can you just let me know if any of S06 ever aired. https://thetvdb.com/series/diesel-brothers/allseasons/official I dont think it did but my tracking may be wrong.

Guess i'll have to watch it online first so that S07 makes sense. 9rush did this with the current season of street outlaws too. I had to watch "Street Outlaws: America's List" S01 first so that this currently airing season of Street Outlaws actually make sense.

Have a great xmas Lisa & Tiffany & Gai & Dan

House of Gods

New six part drama series House of Gods premieres Sunday 25th February at 8.30pm on the ABC, with all six episodes available on iView.

The series follows the lives of an ambitious Iraqi Australian family grappling with newfound power and privilege when their charismatic patriarch is elected Head Cleric of their local mosque. This compelling series takes audiences behind the walls of an imam's family and the community he leads, exploring the personal cost of power and ambition.

The Cook Up with Adam Liaw returns on Monday, February 26th on SBS On Demand and 7pm weeknights on SBS Food.

I presume each episode will be repeated on the SBS HD channel the following day at around 3pm or so as in previous years (you get a much better recording on the HD channel !!!)

Not sure how many episodes this year but there have been 570 so far across 3 years & 5 seasons. Adam must be a workaholic.

weird one for you that i see from time to time. a show thats on the new list will just keep moving to the next airing.  Example is this one > Vintage Voltage

Commenced 2/3 (nearly 3 weeks ago) but & after 2/3 aired it moved to 3/3 then 9/3 then 10/3 now 16/3.

Not sure if its a glitch or someone is manually moving it at your end but 3 weeks in, its no longer new
