Hi

WIN HD channels currently show only programs that are specific to 9HD. There is actually very little of this programming eg. nothing 9HD specific is broadcast on Friday nights, or at all on Saturdays.

This was done after subscriber feedback informed us that WIN wasn't filling in gaps in their HD schedule by simulcasting whatever was showing on the SD channel. A thread in the forum from August that explains the issue a little more can be found here;

http://www.icetv.com.au/iceforum/index.php?topic=1224.msg5438;topicseen

It's difficult at the moment for Ice TV to verify what programs will be broadcast on both channels because WIN is an affiliate of Ch 9. We thought it was best not to guess something would appear on WIN HD and risk people missing a show altogether.

However, if you have noticed (from watching TV) that a program is regularly broadcast on the WIN HD channel then we would be happy to add it into the schedule.

Thanks

The WIN HD "No data" situation for the ACT seems to have improved a bit since September, but the prime time coverage is still poor:

Wed 17/6 16:30-21:00 No Data - WIN HD
Thu 18/6 17:00-21:30 No Data - WIN HD
Fri 19/6 16:30-24:00 No Data - WIN HD
Sat 20/6 18:00-24:00 No Data - WIN HD
Sun 21/6 18:00-20:30 No Data - WIN HD
23:25-24:00 No Data - WIN HD
Mon 22/6 16:30-19:30 No Data - WIN HD
21:30-22:30 No Data - WIN HD
Tue 23/6 16:30-22:30 No Data - WIN HD

On Friday and Saturday, there's no WIN HD data available at any time from 6pm to midnight. On Wednesday there's data for 3 hours in that time frame, on Thursday, 2.5 hours, on Sunday, about 3 hours, On Monday 3.5 hours, and on Tuesday 1.5 hours.

On only one night in the week is there less than 50% "No data" from 6pm to midnight.

Hi Peter

We understand the frustration but WIN does not provide guide data for their HD channel, nor do they consistently broadcast shows that are available in HD elsewhere. As mentioned previously, we put together a limited guide for WIN HD off our own bat, which is preferable to doing what other guides do at the moment, ie. pretend WIN HD doesn't exist! Programs we know will be on this channel (either because they're on 9HD or because subscribers have seen them) are scheduled. Everything else is "no data" in order to avoid potential recording issues. It's really a matter that people need to complain to WIN about.

Hi, Madeline.

Yes, it is frustrating, and not what I would hope for from a paid service.

We are always open to suggestions... what would prefer us to do with WIN HD?

We are always open to suggestions... what would prefer us to do with WIN HD?

Other than providing the programming information?

A good start would be to break up the No Data entries into the slots for the corresponding SD programs, and to assign different event descriptors to different No Data entries, so that individual time slots can be recorded as series without recording every No Data entry in the schedule. That would make it easier for your users to record the slots in the absence of information from IceTV, and make it easier to report what's on in those slots for users that don't normally watch the programs.

Or better; put a PC with a HD tuner in representative locations where WIN HD scheduling differs. Record samples of the No Data time slots. Use this information to update the IceTV guide, and as fodder for the IceTV schedule forecasting algorithm.

If we had reliable programming info, we'd certainly provide it. But there isn't reliable info, which is why other guides don't do anything when it comes to WIN HD and why ours is partial.

Outside 9HD programming hours (generally 11am-4.30pm, 10.30pm - 2.30am) the programs that have been manually added to the WIN HD schedule (eg. CSI Miami, The Mentalist) are ones we know from feedback will appear on WIN HD. When people inform us something is showing on WIN HD we do add it to the schedule. What we don't do anymore is "guess" - doing that has created problems for people before, eg. cricket.

Re. suggestions... unfortunately, programs can't be recorded for commercial purposes. Monitoring needs to be from live TV. However, we can certainly break up some of the timeslots into smaller blocks. Then people can choose to record them just in case they are broadcast on WIN HD.

:-[ You're quite right, of course. I'm sure the last thing IceTV wants is another battle royal with Nine.

Thanks.

WIN HD ACT is still showing a lot of "no data", but here's one data point. Last night's 8:30 movie (Sun 26 Jul), Ocean't Thirteen was shown on WIN HD, presumably in HD. No idea whether there's a pattern, and anyway it looks like the movie slot may have been given over to yet another "camera chasing emergency crew" show followed by a "forensic science is magic" show (two doses).

Huh?   So CSI/whatever was on?  But you said Oceans 13 was on?  I am confused.

Yesterday, Ocean's 13, next week, same time slot, Rescue Special Ops and a double CSI. I probably could have been clearer in my OP.

Thanks. If Sunday night movies had continued then it sounds like it would have been a safe bet to schedule them on WIN HD.

As far as we know, WIN viewers will be losing WIN HD (at least for a while) when Go! "soft launches" this month.
