Program Posters
« on: November 12, 2020, 04:51:17 PM »
Hi Guys,
New user here and I have a question re program posters.
I use Emby as my PVR and so far I like what I am getting from IceTV.
However, I have a question re missing Program posters.
For example,
Harry's Practice, in the xml file it shows http://images.icetv.com.au/placeholder/5307_poster.png" width="1000" height="680" as the source for the poster image, which is great as that's what I want from IceTV, but no poster is displayed for this program (see attached screen grab)

Pasting this url into Firefox Browser returns a 404 error page not found.

Is there a reason for this poster not being where it should be?

I note that there are also quite a few other shows that do not have poster images in the guide, Haven't checked them all, but Images and posters are the main thing I'm looking for from IceTV.

Thanks

Paul

Hi Jordy1955,

We get our images from TVDB but if none are available we have to fill the gap with an auto-geneted placeholder such as that which you refer to for Harry's Practice. We also have to be careful of copyright issues.

Hi MD,
Thanks for the quick response.

Yep, just checked Harry's practice in TVDB and there is no poster on that site so, fair enough.

Testing this theory further, I notice that Baywatch also shows no poster in the guide and the url - http://images.icetv.com.au/placeholder/28480_poster.png" width="1000" height="680" - also returns a 404 error page not found. But TVDB - https://www.thetvdb.com/series/baywatch has posters.
As for being wary of copyright issues, I completely understand, but TVDB is public domain and surely not subject to this.

Anyway, I'm just trying to get my head around things... :)

cheers

Paul

Hi Paul,

We'll check back as to why Baywatch is missing which may be a bug but it will have to wait a few days as we are in the pre-release de-bugging phase of some new internal software systems so flat out atm.  Re TVDB, it has been bought by a commercial organisation so quite where its use of freely provided metadata will end up is anyone's guess right now but, nevertheless, copying a copy that breaches copyright is still an offence for the second copier whether it as freely provided to TVDB or not (Google IceTV V NINE for an example of our copyright battles all the way to the High Court, which we won, and why we are careful to not stick our necks out too far!).
