Channel 9 Melbourne - different programming on HD (90)
« on: May 04, 2009, 01:14:19 PM »
Hi, just noticed that today the programming on 90 is different from 9 as it seems to have been since I first looked mid morning today, but this is not being reflected in IceTV. I assume channel 9 have just introduced some sort of change and we haven't caught up yet. This could seriously screw with my programs that are set to record on HD! lol!

Also, on a different subject, with regard to the news on 9, it seems that they just refer to it as Nine News now and not National Nine News. It's a small point but could the title in IceTV be altered to reflect this? I have no idea why they dropped the national out of it! Maybe they just figured it was redundant.

Hi

Yes, we have noticed this recent change too.

Unfortunately, despite our recent High Court win, Channel 9 scheduling is still governed by the court order from last year. This is a serious legal obligation that we must (and will) continue to follow when scheduling for 9/9HD/WIN etc,  until such time as the order is lifted.

What we will do in the meantime, is schedule a block of "9HD Programming" during the day so that people don't set recordings to 9HD that are no longer being shown because the channel isn't simulcasting SD. When we know the specifics of the program, we will schedule it, but initially it will simply be "9HD programming".

With regards to the news, someone pointed this out but we made the decision to keep the program title. It's a minor change and if we give the news a new name then everyone who has a series recording set will automatically lose it.

Thanks

Thanks Madeleine, that makes sense (on both counts) although I am suprised that given your high court win that a previous order would still be in effect. When is this due to be lifted or to lapse? It would be nice to know when we can expect full programming information for the nine network to resume.

Your decision about scheduling a block labelled "9HD Programming" during the affected periods is a good one, but hopefully this won't be needed for too long.

The High Court victory did not address the matter of the order from last year, which came from a different court and is a separate, though connected, issue requiring more submissions, paperwork etc.

12 days may seem like a long time but these processes are slow. "Legal time" is different to real time - like dog years, in reverse, so to speak.

We will certainly let people know as soon as anything changes.

FYI, as mentioned in General Discussion...

A date has been set for an audience with the court to have the order from June 2008 lifted.

This matter will be heard on Monday 18th May.

We will make an announcement after the matter has been heard to inform subscribers about how this affects Nine scheduling, as well as anything they'll need to do etc.

Thanks

Indeed... it's all been very Dickensian. Or Kafkaesque. :)

Both, with not a little Monty Python besides.

Just as long as no-one ends up in Kafka's Penal Colony.

Hi

Just to keep everyone in the loop... the court date has been moved to Friday May 22nd. This was beyond our control and had to do with legal paperwork from the High Court.

Thanks
